Ideological racism, linguistic fascism and negationism among the Indian politicians  – Baahubali becomes touching stone overcoming caste interpretation also!

Kannada activists against Sathyaraj

Business motive attributed to the controversy: Praveen Shetty, the president of the KRV, was quoted in The News Minute[1] as saying “Why are directors [sic] pleading with the film chamber and senior actors in Karnataka? He had called us dogs during the Cauvery issue. We want a public apology from Sathyaraj, only then will the film be allowed to release in Karnataka.”[2] A few months ago, Baahubali 2 became the hottest film in the Karnataka trade, and many tried to procure it. But the producers of the film could not get the price that they were asking[3]. This led to a lot of jealousy and rivalry in the local trade, which may have led to raking up a 10-year old issue, which nobody imagined. Whether, the opposition has linguistic chauvinism, financial intricacies and business rivalry or otherwise, the hidden truth cannot be brushed aside. Now the film is going to be directly marketed in Karnataka by Arka Media, the producers, via NM Entertainment Sudhir. Meanwhile hectic parleys are going on to sort out the issue over the ban, which has snowballed into a political row[4].

Kattappa kiiled Baahubali

The actor Sathyaraj and his political role: There has been a lot of furore over the release of “Baahubali: The Conclusion” in Karnataka (scheduled for April 28, 2017), based on certain statements made by Tamil actor Sathyaraj during the Cauvery water crisis[5]. Sathyaraj plays Kattappa, a pivotal character, in the two-part film[6]. Producer Prasad Devineni from Arka Media Works tells us, “We plan on coming to Bengaluru soon to interact with fans and thank them for the support. We also want to appeal to the protesting organizations to support us when we are in the city.” The involvement of actors in the social and political issues has turned into a new twist in this way, affecting the release of a film. Perhaps, the cine-world has to learn that their members should restrict their polemics within the studios and sets and they cannot go beyond such limits enter into other areas to give discourses. There have been actors, who want to become politicians have been playing sage diplomatically avoiding controversies, but, Sathyaraj has been of different kind. Baahubali might have made him national or even international actor known to many, but, once his background is known, the business partners may not be comfortable with his extreme views and ideology.

Satyuaraj speech - Kannadigas opposed

Sathyaraj, Nagaraj and Baaahubali: Director S S Rajamouli sought to distance himself and his Baahubali 2 team from comments allegedly made by actor Sathyaraj that have led to a protest against the film’s release in Karnataka[7]. Rajamouli said the filmmakers were in no way related to the remarks made by Sathyaraj. “The producer and I want to clarify on the issue… The comments must have pained some of you but we don’t have any relation to it. Those were (his) personal comments and were made some nine years ago,” the director said in a video message on his official Twitter page. The controversy broke out after a video in which Sathyaraj allegedly made “derogatory” comments against Kannada activists went viral[8]. What Sathyaraj spoke might be nine years ago, but, Nagaraj has made it current by responding point by point. However, his speech has no takers, as every one, who knows about Sathyaraja, knows very well, he has been a staunch Periyarist, atheist, pro-Tamil separatist and anti-Hindu ideologist. In fact, in his movies, he has always exhibited such ideologies from Vedam puthithu to others. In ine movie, he shoots an astrologer dead asking a question, “Tell me how long you will you live”, when replies that he would live more, he finishes him off, i.e, just to prove that astrology is bogus. He has even donned the role of EVR in “Periyar”. Very often, he used to speak in atheist forums against Hindus, Hindu religion and belief system. As for as Nagaraj is concerned, Tamil people knew nothing, but, only through Sathyaraj, as he himself talked about Katal Nagaraj.

Kattappa brings controversy - Baahubali

Rajamouli’s appeal to the opposing groups: In a statement, filmmaker SS Rajamouli had expressed his gratitude to the Kannada audience and said[9], “It’s known that actor Sathyaraj is playing a significant role in the film. It has come to my attention that a few of his earlier comments had hurt a large section of you. I feel it’s my responsibility to clarify the issue. Baahubali has no connection to Sathyaraj’s remarks. He has only acted in a role in the film. He took his remuneration for it. Sathyaraj’s comments are his personal opinion. Our view is that his personal opinion shouldn’t trouble the film that he acted in. Yet, as responsible people, we have spoken about the situation with Sathyaraj over the phone. We don’t have more power than this. Sathyaraj had made those remarks nine years ago. After that, several films of his have released. The films he acted and produced have been released in Karnataka. Baahubali: The Beginning had also released. We request you to receive Baahubali: The Conclusion as well as the earlier films. If Baahubali: The Conclusion is stopped, Sathyaraj won’t suffer any loss. The problem is for the technicians and producers who have worked hard for five years on the film and for Kannada distributors and movie audiences. I urge you to not show anger against Sathyaraj on Baahubali.”

Dr Sathyaraj - donning EVR atheist

The peculiar Tamilnadu politics with codified and well-scripted agenda: As for as Tamilnadu is concerned, the people connected with cine-field have been successful in becoming politicians, powerful politicians, chief ministers and Central ministers also. In turn, such political ascendancy has also helped their business prospective and hence, cinema and politics have become inseparable for the Dravidian ideologists. The strategy has to be inclusive Dravidian ideology, Tamil separatism, anti-north, anti-Hindi, anti-Sanskrit, anti-Brahmin principles incorporated wherever possible, even if not possible, they have to be included without fail. EVR, Anna, Karunanidhi, MGR, Jayalalita and others have risen to top only because of their political and cinema connections. Of course, the Karunanidhi family and now AIADMK feuds expose the lack of strong leadership and dilution of “dravidian ideology”. This has made others tempting join politics, but, Sivaji Ganesan, SSR, T. Rajendran have suffered a lot. Rajnikanth has been cautious without taking any final decision. Kamal Hassan has now showing his political intention, but, only exhibited through twitter postings. However, individual powerful leaders of whatever nature, their exclusiveness has proved the dangerous decline after their death.

Sc groups wanted to ban Baahubali in 2015

Caste interpretation appearing in 2017: The casteist interpretation has been given to Baahubali by some columnists[10]. The Quint has interpreted in a characteristic way, “SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster ‘Bahubali: The Beginning’ has won the national award for best flm. Congratulations to the team….Here’s a quick peep into our archives – an argument that the movie actually shows how to keep dalits, adivasis and women suppressed…… Remember Agent Orange and Napalm in the Vietnam war? Well, Baahubali has its own version of burning people alive, as long as they are dark adivasis… obviously named KALAkeyas. Katappa, a great soldier and leader even eats separately from his ‘masters’. Why? Because hum choti jaat ke hain.” Thus goes the comments[11]. Thus, in one stroke, it accused “Baahubali” for depicting all war crimes, social exploitation and nuclear to chemical weapon usage against the tribals and others for the survival of higher castes. Perhaps, none noticed such allegory, euphemism or joke!

Pagadaikku piranthavan - opposed by SCs in Tamilnadu 2015

Baahubali faced casteist wrath, but, susidised in JUly 2015 in Tamilnadu[12]: In July 2017, a movie theatre in Madurai playing the hugely popular South Indian hit Baahubali was attacked with petrol bombs by a Dalit group for featuring a line (Pagadaikku Pirandhavan) considered derogatory against a sub-caste of the Dalit community. Subsequently, writer Madan Karky apologised for any hurt caused. Baahubali may be in the news for featuring an anti-Dalit line in the climax, but Dalit activists, filmmakers and scholars point out caste-based slurs have always been a part of Tamil Cinema. “Caste-based slurs such as Chandala, which denotes a sub-caste of a Scheduled Caste community in Tamil Nadu, have been so casually used in comedy-sequences by Tamil comedians like Vadivelu and Vivek. In Ameer’s Paruthiveeran, a super hit song Yele Yelelo, the hero actually calls his girl friend Sandali – which means that she is a daughter of a prostitute. We live in a society where such songs are celebrated,” says Punitha Pandian, editor of Dalit Murasu, a magazine that writes critically about social issues. Pandian remarked that often ignorance is given as an excuse and urged the civil society – intellectuals, activists and media – to do more to sensitise the masses. “This is not a problem of Dalits alone. We have been constantly talking and writing about these things but we have reached a stage where only a petrol bomb can force the society to talk about it. Filmmakers must be sensitised about social issues,” he says. What does the film industry make of the accusation that caste-based slurs have always been a part of Tamil films? Film-maker S.P. Jhananathan says that most young and budding writers are seldom aware of social issues, and suggests that the writers’ union must be actively involved in raising consciousness. “Most film-makers and writers are not aware of social issues. Film-makers and writers are also cut from the same fabric of society; how can they be any different,” he asks. Asked if there is a tendency to smuggle in the idea of caste pride into the narrative to appeal to politically dominant communities, Jhananathan says it is very much possible. “If the film directly deals with the issue of caste rivalry between dominant castes and Dalits, one need not shy away from talking about caste. But I would urge film-makers to be open about it. The problem is when caste pride is inserted in a film which has nothing to do with it,” he says.  The interpretation continued[13].

[12] The Hindu, Caste references polarise Tamil film fans, CHENNAI: JULY 27, 2015 01:56 IST UPDATED: JULY 27, 2015 01:56 IST.

[13] Subagunarajan, Editor of the Tamil film journal Kaatchi Pizhai, says the fundamental problem lies in the way such casteist slurs have been embedded in the Tamil language. “Words such as chandala and kepmari, both of which denote the name of a caste, have been used as swear words. This is why Periyar called Tamil a barbaric language,” he says. However, Subagunarajan fears that society may be heading to a stage where film-makers and writers cannot discuss caste issues at all. “The courts must be proactive and not admit such cases unless it is very pressing. If the film uses a casteist slur to underscore oppression, then it is not an issue. It becomes an issue when it is used to elicit laughs,” he says hoping that the film industry will take measures to correct itself. D. Ravi Kumar, general secretary of Viduthalai Ciruthaigal Katchi, says that while the issue needs to be debated in society, he disagrees with the form of protest. “The swear words have a connection to the specific social history of oppressed people. In a democratic society, we cannot continue to use it and we need to debate it. However, the form of protest is unacceptable. Democratic issues cannot be communicated in an undemocratic way,” he says.

Ideological racism, linguistic fascism and negationism among the Indian politicians, politicians turned actors and actors turned politicians – Baahubali becomes touching stone!

April 21, 2017

Ideological racism, linguistic fascism and negationism among the Indian politicians, politicians turned actors and actors turned politicians – Baahubali becomes touching stone!

My name is khan

Bollywood, Kollywood – style of nurturing Ideological racism, linguistic fascism and negationism: In India and elsewhere, there have been racist, communal and casteist actors working consciously others and spreading venom through their acts and speeches that have not been recorded properly to expose their ulterior motives. Many talented actors, actresses, directors, musicians, singers and cine-experts side-lined, oppressed, suppressed and made to die unsung. Particularly, the actors with their imbibed religious fundamentalism and political ideology have been hiding them under their make-up and dress to pose as “secular”, “irreligious”, or even “atheist” and so on to fool the idiotic fans, followers and general public. Generally, these details have been suppressed, covered up and even buried as the involved wanted only money, fame and enjoyment in life till death. The Bollywood religious fundamentalists and the Kollywood Dravidian fanatics have been experts in such acts of ideology[1]. Through Dawood Ibrahim and Khans, they have got exposed in the bloodbath of Bombay blasts and other blasts. Even today, Saif Ali Khan asserts that he wanted a Muslim name for his son to reflect his culture[2]. And he justifies it, though, a historical person existed 900 years ago[3] (of different category). Of course, the Khans exploded different types of bombs.  This has been going on since 195os, many times exhibited on the political stages and platforms. While the expressions, speeches and rhetorics of the Bollywood have been played down, the Kollywood counterparts has become selling literature, as such verbose became symbol of Dravidian polity. Though, some writers claiming as historians and all, and have written on “dirty words” etc.[4], they also do not reveal, as they want awards, rewards etc. from the politicians, rulers and businessmen colluding with each other.

Dr Sathyaraj - donning kattappa - EVR atheist

The Negationism of Dravidian ideology of racism, fascism and radicalism: The Dravidian actors starting with EVR, Annadurai, Karunanidhi etc., the most hardcore fundamentalists with the strong belief in race, racism, and racialism; middle-path tread MGR like category and the worst rabble rousers like S. A. Asokan (yesteryears’ comedy turned villain actor, producer), Sathyaraj, Seeman, Mansur Ali Khan, Manivannan and others. Under the guise of Dravidian ideology, analytical wisdom, self-respect, atheism (read as anti-Hindu ideology) and such other bogies, the bandwagon gave out speech of hatred, loathing and extreme odium on and off the silver screen. With their “Dravidian” racist ideology, they got separated first with Andhra Pradesh and then with Karnataka and Kerala. Though, Caldwell under his hypothesis brought all south Indian languages under the “Dravidian” bogey, other than Tamil speaking started weary of such linguistic fanaticism turning into racism and hatred against people groups. Though, “Tamilnadu” was also created, it had border disputes with all the three states and they got settled down slowly. However, the Veerappan and Kaveri issues made them again keeping them at loggerheads. Though, in the case of “Veerappn issue”, the political, business, cine-world and other interested keeping quiet, the “Kavery issue” exposed their duplicity, dishonesty and betrayed. In between, the radical parties like PMK and KRV played the most hate-politics to divide people. Actors like Rajinikanth also played dual role. Thus, the hate-speech of Sathyaraj has not been surprising, shocking or something extraordinary of their rhetoric-calibre.

Sathya raj - Nagaraj

The hate-speeches of Sathyaraj and Nagaraj: The hate-speech of Sathyaraj has been of his own characteristic and it includes[5] – Tamilian has been a tree and the Kannadiga dog urinates on it raising its leg…..Bal Thackery already plucked the eyes of Tamils in Maharastra. ..Used vulgar words like “mayir”,………… “I am lying with my wife and not with your wife”……When Saikumar told that his favourite hero was Shivaji Ganesan, he was beaten up by the Kannadigas and insisted to say “Rajkumar” ……..“We do not speak separatism, but forced us to speak ”……..“Tamils do not require northern Rama, Karnataka’s Raghavendra, Kerala’s Iyyappan…….. ” And the counter hate-speech of Nagaraj has been[6], “I am warning you Sathyaraj…..you have no guts to speak against Kannadigas……You talked such nonsense in front of Superstar like Rajini…..remember, your Mother Amma, Rajinikanth and others have been from our state……Rajamouli also hails from our state, yes, he has given you the correct character of Kattappa, yes, the character of traitor and driving sword from the behind…….”. Here, Indians need not go into such rhetoric of hate-speeches, as they have been there since 1950s as pointed out. One would be taken aback, had they happened to listen to EVR, Anna, Karunanidhi and such others, yes, their speech would be full of vulgar words, double meaning slangs, and hate-speech against particular caste, religion, congress leader and so on. Even today, the DK categories speak in such a tone and tenor on the roads, the ladies have to pass the places quickly to avoid listening such vulgarities exceeding decency and decorum.

Why Baahubali should be released in Karnataka

The 2008 speech affects now in 2017[7]: Way back in 2008, the issues between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu resurfaced after the latter laid the foundation for the Hogenakkal Integrated Drinking Water Project. The Nadigar Sangam had organised a meet to condemn the Karnataka’s government’s opposition to the project. Various celebrities took to the stage and many had slammed the Karnataka government’s decision. In fact, Rajinikanth had slammed Kannada activists and he later apologised for one of his comments which had hurt the Kannadigas. Sathyaraj had apparently targeted Rajinikanth, which had upset his fans back then.  However, the actor, who is now popularly known as Kattappa, had blasted Kannadigas for the Kavery issue. Interestingly, Sathyaraj’s speech at the meet was largely ignored at that time as the heat was on Rajinikanth. The video of the speech took the internet by storm only in the recent times after Baahubali was released. It is interesting to note that the Kannada groups had not opposed the release of the first instalment of Baahubali, but they are protesting now because Sathyaraj has become a popular name with this franchise and it is the right time to target him for an apology, say Kannada groups.d called prominent Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj, “a comedy character.”

Baahubali-2 banned

The opposition to Sathyaraj by Karnataka Rakshana Vedika: It is interesting to note that the linguistic separatism started raising its head in other states other than Tamilnadu like Karnataka. The members of Karnataka Rakhsha Vedika [KRV] held a protest on 20-04-2017 (Thursday) outside the office of Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce in Bengaluru[8]. The pro-Kannada groups reasserted their demand that they will not allow the release of Baahubali: The Conclusion until actor Sathyaraj tenders an apology[9]. “Sathyaraj has just not hurt the feelings of six crore Kannadigas, he has disturbed the peace between two states. It won’t be wrong to call him a traitor. He is a Tamil actor and when he talks bad about Karnataka, the entire Kannada film fraternity should come together and condemn his remarks,” said a member of Karnataka Rakhsha Vedika. Sa. Ra. Govindu, President, Akhila Karnataka Dr. Rajkumar Fans’ Association, urged Mr. Sathyaraj to visit Bengaluru and apologise for his remark[10]. “Otherwise, the actor will be responsible for the inconvenience caused during the release,” he said[11]. Whether Sathyaraj would come to Bangalore and apologize, apologize from Chennai or does not apologize at all, it is all a game now. Ultimately, it becomes a question of money, business and profits and therefore, how, these are going to be settled down is to be watched till 28-04-2017.

Tarun Vijay has been caught into the Dravidian cobweb without understanding the the Dravidian ideology, philosophy and polity!

April 8, 2017

Tarun Vijay has been caught into the Dravidian cobweb without understanding the the Dravidian ideology, philosophy and polity!

Tarun tweets to apologize on black people-4

“We have black people around us,” said Tarun Vijay[1]: Day after the Centre denied charges of racism in the assault on a group of Nigerians in Greater Noida, the BJP was left red-faced by its leader Tarun Vijay’s remark during a discussion on Al Jazeera that Indians cannot be called racists as they live with “black people” from the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh[2]. “If we were racist, why would we have the entire south, which is complete, you know, Tamil, you know Kerala, you know Karnataka and Andhra, why do we live with them? We have black people around us,” said Vijay[3]. He has been totally wrong in dubbing the South Indian people have been black and as if the north Indian people white. In other words, he has accepted the dubbing of Dravidian ideologists that thw “Aryans invaded India suppressing the black Dravidians”! The remarks sparked a furore, embarrassing the former MP’s party colleagues and leadership[4]. Some opined that whatever, the good work, he has done through the installation of Tiruvalluvar, has undone through such meaningless remarks. More so, because BJP chief Amit Shah had called on 06-04-2017 [Thursday] for expanding the party’s roots and strengthening the organisation in southern states.

Tarun tweets to apologize on black people

The African envoys accused India of “racism”: India reacted sharply as a group of 44 African envoys described the attacks as “xenophobic and racial” and accused the government of taking no “known, sufficient and visible” deterrent action. In parliament Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj said that the attacks were “criminal acts” and cannot be called racial. “Before the inquiry is completed, please don’t say it is driven by racial discrimination,” she said, while speaking in the Lok Sabha, where some opposition leaders demanded to know the government’s response to allegations of “racial attacks” on Africans in Greater Noida. In India, the attacks on the Africans have been mainly due to drug trafficking, financial frauds and sexual harassment incidences. In medieval period and even today, they have been engaged in piracy also demanding ransom. The Indians, (in general, though, do not bother about the movement of the foreigners), have been cautious about the Nigerians only for these reasons. However, they continue to get involved in such activities. Thus, Tarun has failed to point out the facts to the foreign media, instead indulged in talking about “not-known” subject to him. While the attacks on Indians have been racist in US, UK, Australia and other countries, in India, the attacks are not racial, but, retaliatory nature, because of the explicit reasons.

Tarun tweets to apologize on black people-2

“The Hindu” has been so happy in interpreting “racist” twist, with Marxist attack on BJP[5]: BJP leader and former Rajya Sabha member Tarun Vijay’s statement to a television channel that Indians could not be racists as they lived with “black” South Indians, sparked off a storm on the social media on Friday [07-04-2017], with Mr. Vijay coming in for severe criticism. Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat told The Hindu: “Mr. Tarun Vijay’s comment reflects the core Hindutva ideology of Aryan superiority. What was in my mind came out today. He has apologised for his words, but his thoughts will remain what they are.” The Communist / Marxist “The Hindu” added glefully that, “Mr. Vijay is a former editor of RSS-related publication Panchjanya. While refusing to come on record, a BJP leader said that Mr. Vijay had himself retracted his statement and it was time to move on”, as if it is “secular, unbiased and balanced”. This has been the way, the Indian media has been working catering to the needs of Indians.

Through twitter, he apologized and corrected himself: Vijay was not available for comment but apologised for his remarks, while attempting to explain them, in a series of tweets[6]. In one tweet, he acknowledged that his remarks sounded “ridiculous and very bad”[7]. “In many parts of the nation we have different people, in colour and never ever we had any discrimination against them,” he posted[8]. “My words perhaps were not enough to convey this. Feel bad, really feel sorry, my apologies to those who feel I said different than what I meant,” he wrote[9]. He even said[10], “I said we worship Krishna, which literally em, ans black, we were the first to oppose any racism and were in fact victims of racist British” and “In may parts of the nation we have different people, in colour and never ever we had any discrimination against them”. But, it was too late, as what he said was broadcast already[11]. However, it is evident that he has not understood the history of South India, particularly, that of Tamlnadu and its implications. Or the advisiors from Tamilnadu has been misguiding him through their wonderful ideas. Even in the case of Tiruvalluvar and connected issues, they had misled him for the consequences, that I explained in my Tamil blogs.

Tarun tweets to apologize on black people-3

The BJP leaders have been ignorant of the Dravidian ideology, philosophy and polity: However, at least three senior BJP leaders and an MP told The Indian Express that the comments from the former editor of RSS mouthpiece Panchajanya were “extremely embarrassing” and could damage the party’s image in the south. “It’s really bad for us that this has come the day after our party chief wanted leaders to strengthen the party in the southern states. In spite of all the explanations and the apologies, such statements will damage the party’s image and adversely affect its efforts to come up as a party for all,” said one leader.  The BJP cannot handle issues of South India or Tamilnadu in this way, without understanding the facts. The present leadership of Tamilnadu has not been any match to the Dravidian political and ideological leaders, as most of them have been ignorant of the Dravidian ideology, philosophy and polity since 1920s to 1970s.

The Kerala BJP leadrrs have been uncomfotable with his comments: In Kerala, where the BJP is in the race for the Lok Sabha by-election in Malappuram, a leader pointed out that Vijay’s comments have become a “hot topic” for the media. Kerala BJP chief Kummanam Rajasekharan and former state chief V Muraleedharan said the matter should be “closed” as Vijay had apologised. But Rajasekharan said, “If there has to be an explanation, the party leadership should be asking for it.” A BJP leader from the state said Vijay’s remark would “overshadow” the party’s attempts to highlight the “Communist violence against the BJP and the RSS” at the national level. “These leaders should be cautious in making remarks in public. With social media and visual media being so alive now, one has to be cautious,” said the leader.

The Tamilnadu BJP leaders should be trained in the Dravidian ideology, philosophy and polity: When contacted by The Indian Express, BJP general secretary P Muralidhar Rao said, “He has realised that what he said was wrong and against the BJP’s ideology. He has apologised for it, why should we pursue it now?” Rao said that Vijay would not have meant what he said. “This man has been working with cultural organisations in Tamil Nadu. He has carved out a space for himself in the cultural field there,” said Rao. In one of his tweets, Vijay wrote: “I have Tamil, Bengali, Telugu in my family — worked with commitment for Tamil culture, without any politics, collectively with all.” In another tweet, he wrote: “I can die but how can I ridicule my own culture, my own people and my own nation? Think before you misinterpret my badly framed sentence.” That was followed by this line: “And, I never, never, even in a slip, termed south India as black. Have patience to watch the show before reacting angrily.” In the programme, Vijay was defending India against charges of racism following the attacks on the African students.

Castration as a punishment for pedophiles, child-rapists, and all rapists!

Castration as a punishment for pedophiles, child-rapists, and all rapists!

“Barbaric crimes should definitely attract barbaric models of punishment”[1]: In a strongly-worded order, the Madras High Court had earlier this month recommended castration as punishment to child sex abusers observing that “barbaric crimes should definitely attract barbaric models of punishment”[2]. Justice N Kirubakaran, in a recent order against a British national, made the recommendation to the Centre saying that castration would achieve “magical results” in preventing child abuse. “When law is ineffective and incapable of addressing the menace, this court cannot keep its hands folded and remain a silent spectator, unmoved and oblivious of the recent happenings of horrible blood-curdling gang rapes of children in various parts of India,” he said[3] castration for child rapists would fetch “magical” results in preventing child abuse. The judge said this while dismissing a petition by the accused, a British national, who sought the quashing of the proceedings against him in a lower court. The judge further said that “though the suggestion of castration looks barbaric, barbaric crimes should definitely attract barbaric models of punishment” and the very thought of the punishment should deter the culprit from committing the offence. Anticipating a reaction to his judgment, he said: “Those activists should first exhibit sympathy with, and support to, the victims of such crimes by visiting and consoling them at the hour of crisis instead of having misplaced sympathy with the perpetrators under the usual banner of ‘human rights violation’. They must remember that ‘human rights’ is not a term restricted to, and reserved only, for offenders.” He also directed the Union government to decide on introducing compulsory sex education for high school students. “Denying youngsters correct and scientific information would lead [them] to acquire half-baked and incorrect knowledge from other sources, like Internet, friends and movies, creating misconception and doubts.”

The accused paedophile has been from Britain[4]: Taking note of the number of cases of foreigners abusing children, the judge referred to the International Child Protection Certificate (ICPC) developed by the United Kingdom to protect children and said the visa form issued by the Indian Embassy had to be amended with the provision of a column requiring the applicants to give the details of convictions, actions warranting reprimands and impending cases. According to the prosecution in the present case, the British national, had sexually abused a 15-year old student in 2011, after befriending the family by promising the mother that he would support her son’s education. The accused eventually took the Class 9 boy to Delhi, where he allegedly abused the victim, including attempts to have sexual intercourse. After the Briton left for London, with the help of the Justice and Care Organisation, the victim filed a complaint on the incident, following which a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and Juvenile Justice Protection Act. After the Judicial Magistrate took cognisance of the case in 2012, following the filing of the final report, the accused moved the court seeking to quash the proceedings against him. Following the issuance of the non-bailable warrant against him, a red alert was issued against the accused by the Interpol. The accused contended that the notice was preventing him from coming to India to defend the case. The judge has dismissed his plea to quash the proceedings against him but stayed the red corner notice so that he can come to India to appear before the trial court and face the case.

Abha singh and Pramila Nesargi

The opinion of Abha Singh, social activist[5]: Welcoming the Madras High Court’s suggestion of considering castration as punishment for child rapists, two social activists on 26-10-2015, Monday said that the suggestion made to the Centre was apt as the existing Indian law is unable to protect the child from abuses. “Child abuse cases in India are increasing. The Madras High Court in one such case has come up strongly and said that the Indian law is unable to prevent child abuses. The conviction rate in child abuse cases is barely 2.4 per cent whereas the offences against children have increased by 400 per cent,” social activist Abha Singh told ANI. “When rapists are going scot-free and paedophiles are going scot-free, a Madras High Court judge has rightly suggested that there should be castration. Many other countries like UK, USA, Polland and many other countries subscribe to castration and it has been seen that it has been successful in checking the paedophiles,” she added.

What Pramila Nesargi opined[6]: Another social activist and lawyer Pramila Nesargi echoing similar sentiments expressed her delight with the Madras High Court judge’s suggestion. “I always advocated that castration can be the only remedy because the existing law is not creating any fear in the minds of the people. People may call it barbaric but judge has openly said that barbaric punishment should be given for barbaric crimes,” Nesargi told ANI. However, when such cases were reported earlier, the activists were not responding. In Indian society, the social aberrations have been introduced or created due to external factors, distorting the existing social system and institutions. The offenders have been escaping under the newly created laws with the crimes committed before the enactment.  The sociologists, psychologists and other researchers opine based on these incidences, which are happening in a country with 1.2 billion population. As so many external and internal factors have been disturbing, the people also get affected. Allowing modern evils at one side, supporting them under the guise of  human rights and so on and crying wolf about eroding moral values have been the characteristics of  the commentators on Indian society.

Dilemma of Indian society caught in many social issues: In India, most of the child-rapists or paedophiles have been foreigners. The number of child abuse cases has increased from 38,172 in 2012 to 58,224 in 2013 and to 89,423 in 2014. Incidentally in 2013, at the height of the protests in the capital over the Nirbhaya case, Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa had similarly called for death or chemical castration for rapists through amendments in Central laws[7]. As Bangalore has been prone to foreigners satisfying their needs, issues have been alive in the case of pubs, pub-dancing, soliciting and other activities, which might be viewed and interpreted differently. Of the 51 cases of child abuse under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act in the special court for children in Bengaluru, only four have ended in convictions. More than 90% charged under the Pocso Act are acquitted due to lack of evidence and when witnesses turn hostile[8]. Not that evidences were not there, but, the manipulators could influence the involved processes. As example, it is mentioned that children migrating from Tamil Nadu and northern India to the city are the main victims of child abuse whose cases are tried in the session court. Most of these children live with their mothers and fall prey to step-fathers and other offendes. Most abusers are between 25 years and 50 years. The youngest victim so far is just a year old. But, this could be the situation for all Indian children. The highest number of FIRs has been registered in Rajasthan followed by Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala according to data available with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). The number of convictions is only 166 that is 2.4% of the total cases registered while in 389 cases accused were acquitted[9].

Madras / Chennai has been haven for paedophiles: For inexplicable reasons or otherwise, Chennai has seen many international paedophiles got arrested. The locals have also been aiding and abetting such offenders and promoting social crimes. The manipulation of cyber-space has been revealed in many acts. Child rights activists in Chennai have forced authorities to shut down two Facebook pages in Tamil created to attract pedophiles in May 2015. The pages, called ‘chinna ponnu karpazhipom‘ and ‘chinna ponnu veriyargal’ which in Tamil roughly translates to ‘young girl having sex’, had photographs of young girls with a number of sexually explicit comments.

They were spotted by social activists who immediately contacted the authorities to take it down, CNN-IBN reports[10]. 53-year-old Eric Martin alias Jack Fernandes , convicted for raping nine girls in 1998,  had gained entry into India through Nepal and was staying in Madhavaram in Chennai. He had been on the run ever since he was convicted in France and was on Interpol’s Wanted list[11], but arrested in Chennai on November 17, 2010.

Patrick Matthews, a 62-year-old UK national who was accused of sexually abusing several boys of St George Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School in the city between 2003 and 2006, has been arrested by the UK police in August 2009. Sources told TOI that the police arrested Matthews from the UK on Thursday night based on evidences collected from Chennai[12]. Wilhelmus Weijdeveld, the 56-year-old Dutch national now in prison facing charges of child sexual abuse and supplying child pornography, had found that India suited him best’ and even filed for citizenship as early as in 1999, thwarting the attempts of the police to drive him away from the country. He even filed a writ petition against the state of Tamil Nadu, after the Mamallapuram police asked him to leave the country. It was only after three years, on May 02, 2002, that he was arrested for sexually abusing five boys in an orphanage near Mamallapuram. Out on bail, Wilhelmus was arrested again from his Choolaimedu den in Chennai on November 7, 2009 following an Interpol tip-off that he was uploading child pornography on the internet[13].  These are given only for illustrative purpose, as many cases have been reported regularly, and most of them been from the orphanages run by the missionaries in and around Chennai. Therefore, the Judge must have been aware of such incidences. Stringent legislation was the need of the hour to penalise child sexual abuse via the Internet, said Chief Justice of India, Justice P. Sathasivam[14], while inaugurating  two day Southern regional conference on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO Act, 2012)’, in Chennai, in November 2013.  Therefore, castration as punishment to them, as proposed has been the logical conclusion.

Atheist’s sermon on Ramayana!

May 17, 2007

Atheist’s sermon on Ramayana!

Three years back, I started blogging here, but, I switched over to http://www.indiainteracts.com.

However, as they stopped such facility suddenly, many of my writings, bloggig, comments etc., disappeared.

Therefore, I just want to revive, recollect and repost them, wherever possible.

This response was actually for one Nandivarman of Pondicherry, as he used to attack Hindus with his self-claimed atheism and so on.

My attention is drawn to your posting in WordPress.com.

I offer my comments to your post:

India was an island nation surrounded by seas hence it had the name நாவலந் தீவு.

Is to so? Kindly tell me, where the expression நாவலந் தீவு is found in the ancient Tamil literature or “Sangam” literature?

In such a scenario to claim that a Land Bridge built 1,750.000 years ago when no human being had inhabited the Earth

In haste, you are mentioning as 1,750 years (1,750.000 = 1750).

Paula Richman wrote a book titled “Many Ramayanas” Yes the question before us is to accept which Ramayana as true story?.

You claimed youself as a rationalist / atheist etc. Then, you have to be careful in quoting from secondary sources, because, non-Hindus or anti-Hindus can write anything and quoting such biased ideas make you unbecoming of a “rationalist / atheist”. You should have read H. D. Sankalia also before jumping into the so-called “debate”.

Your mention about Jain / Buddha Ramayanas: As Ramayana has become so popular, even Jains and Buddhists had to imitate Ramayana by changing the story, just like Kulandai. Therefore, there is nothing new in it. As a researcher or scholar or historian, you have to demythologize and find out the truth, instead of relying upon “such myth on myth”, straightaway.

[The biblical Adam and Eve’s story and its resemblance could also be taken note of] Sita becoming a monket after eating a fruit: This shows that either you have not read the story properly or misquoting or rather drawing wrong parallel with the biblical Adam and Eve (don’t try to escape by telling that I am a rationalist and all). I do not know as to whether Eve became monkey to have such forceful comparison!

You furthering the above story: Here, you are perhaps nearing the biblical fables, as Jesus also reportedly married to May Magdelene. Perhaps, you decided to not stretch it.

According to Thais, Hanuman had many affairs and children: Naturally, if the wishes are horses, even blind can fly. Why Thais, even Annba did it. As you are a rationalist and atheist, you quote all these things, so enjoy.Anna’s inconclusive debate on Kamba Ramayanam: “Navalar Somasundara Bharathiar and சொல்லின் செல்வர் R.P.Sethu Pillai debated with Anna and openly admitted they have lost the debate. This debate in Tamil Book “Let Fire Spread” தீ பரவட்டும் wants to illuminate Tamil hearts by symbolically burning Kamba ramayanam. Pulavar Kuzhanthai wrote இராவண காவியம் . Ravana Kavyam  can be considered as Dravidian version of Ramayanam”.No, they were ashamed of the perversity and vulgarity erupted in the name of literary flow and hanged their heads. Any Tamil knowing or reading person would hang his head after reading as it is just like “yellow journalism” circulated under the “Dravidian” banner, that too, coming from Anna, wjo became Chief Minister of Tamilnadu taking oath under the Indian Constitution, that has been written by Ambedkar. Anyway, the facts are as follows:

  • The so called debate was held in the auditorium of Law College, Madras on 09-02-1943 under Ramachandra Chettiyar.
  • Anna started speaking and took more than one and half hours leaving no time to others.
  • Pointing out the falsehood in his speech, R. P. Sethu Pillai openly spoke about his weakness in the argument. In fact, re ridiculed Anna for quoting from “Northern Nehru”, being a “Nakkiran” (one who always finds fault with others). Regretting that he could not speak for long time, he wound up his speech within ten minutes. He dared him that he would even come to Kanchipuram for another debate on the subject matter, if he would invite him.
  • Ezattu Adigal, who followed him, was asked to cut short his speech within five minutes.
  • Then Srinivasan started speaking, but he was prevented from speaking, as the DK activists created a riot-like condition. He had to stop his speech, because of the pandemonium created by them.
  • But, Anna was given a chance to speak again!
  • So that was the debate conducted with “freedom of speech” and respect for speakers!
  • However, winding up, C. M. Ramachandra Chetti concluded that he could not give his opinion, as the debate had been inconclusive.

The main point discussed was as to whether Ravana was an Aryan or Dravidian. Thus, the first debate had been the most undemocratic conducted under controlled conditions with rioters.

The second debate was conducted on 14-03-1943 at Devanga Padasalai, Sevvaipettai,  Salem. Salem College A. Ramasamy presided over Anna and Somasundara Bharathi spoke.

  • Anna spoke as usual taking full time
  • Somasundara Bharathi pointed out that Anna spoke as an orator with brimming emotion not as a debater. He then, however brought out his points refuting Anna;s talk.
  • He left, as his speech was over and moreover, he had to catch his train, as plannede by the organizers.
  • But, after his departure, Anna was given a chance and he stressed upon Ravana’s race and concluded with the demand of burning “scriptures of Aryans”.
  • A. Ramasamy, though did not gave any result about the debate, he pointed out that there was “vulgarity” in Kamba Ramayanam.

In any case, such diverted reference has nothing to do with the “Ramar’s Palam”.

The question before us which of these versions is based on true historical facts. These are not days where everyone will accept anything with blind faith. If you place new facts to reopen a settled issue in history, you should place facts and prove it”.

Yes, yes. Nowadays, everybody can get information easily and they decide about truth behind it.  Even in those days (when Anna debated), the other scholars were not allowed to speak or threatened with dire consequences. In other words, they used their own type of terrorism in those days. Now, let us see, how truth is faced.

Let us examine the falsehoods one by one. We from the Dravidian Movement are atheists but not Ravana; all know that Ravana as per epics is a devotee of Lord Siva. The doubt which arises to me is why should a reincarnation of God perform superhuman deeds to impress demigods? Does it mean that Demigods are more powerful than the Original God on reincarnation?

Interestingly, the answer is there in the so-called above debate, as they debated only about the race of Ravana as to whether he was an Aryan or Dravidian! Rationalist or atheist has to deny such myth. Having believed it as a myth, why one should worry about it as to whether it works or not? Without Ramayana myth, there is no Ravana. If Ramayana is myth, Ravana is also a myth. Then, why debate about his “racist credentials”?

There are many books on Indian Ocean. All these books give us evidences on the continental drift, the submerged lands of the Lemuria, which Tamils prefer to call as the Kumari Kandam”.

Yes, but note again, the western scholars do not believe in such hypotheses. Why them, even Indian eminent historians not only do not accept, but also dub them as myth.

Mr. Nandi Varman, go to Endo-eurasian group and other forums, where Tamil literature is misinterpreted and disrespected. Steve Farmer openly accuses that your friend R. Mathivanan is a foregerer. They go on debate even without knowing the fundamentals of Tamil and Tamil literature. I feel it is better spend your energy there instead of politicizing the issue.
