DK Veeramani hate speech 23-03-2019-1

DK Veeramani hate speech 23-03-2019

Veeramani’s derogatory remarks against Sri Krishna, demonstration and complaint: Speaking at an event organised by Dravidar Kazhagam recently on 23-03-2019, Veeramani spoke on the topic ‘Pollachi Scandal – Irresponsible Brahmin Behaviour’. He said Lord Krishna should be the first person who should be booked for the criminal act of eve-teasing[1].  He added[2], “…We can take the example of God known as Krishna. He stole the clothes of women, when they were taking bath and gave back under the guise of giving salvation by asking them to come to him naked and collect the clothes. Such was the crooked Krishna. But, this picture was framed, kept in house and worshipped without shame. So how such worshiping person could be honest and discipline? Thus, from stealing butter at small age, to stealing women’s clothes at adolescence and further asking them to come out, Krishna was the instigator of eve-teasing and a criminal. He should be booked and arrested. Can anybody disagree that Hindu religion cannot even project a god with discipline, honesty and decency. How then, the worshipping gang can claim any discipline? But, Periyar brought out all these nonsense and they say that discipline has gone only because of him!.” Veeramani is well-known for making derogatory remarks on Hindu culture, practices and Gods. Through its mouth-piece, “Viduthalai,” every Krishna Jayanthi, it would come out with rabid, highly malicious and disparaging articles on the Krishna’s hagiographic and apocryphal legends. Because of the Tamilnadu state government support, all of his activities are ignored and he thinks that he has been above law. Most of the advocates and judges have been the nominees of Dravidian parties and they have been faithful and obedient employees of their political masters[3].

Hindus staged demonstration: As the video was widely circulated on WhatsApp, it drew the attention of a large number of Hindus. Dr. M.A. Venkata Krishnan Swamy has given a proper rebuttal to K Veeramani. Pointing out to the blabbering of Dravida Kazhagam’s leader, he questioned[4], “Whether the Dravida Kazhagam accepts the character of Bhagawan Krishna? People who kept talking that there were no such characters(Lord Krishna) and Puranas were fake seemed to have accepted the Puranas now. So, it conveys that they have accepted Lord Krishna and Devas as well. Since they have accepted the God now, it is clear that they talk nothing but blabbering.”  While reminding about E.V. Ramaswamy’s derogatory comments about womanhood and marriage relationships, Dr. MAV Swamy added, “Pollachi rapists should have followed EVR and definitely not Lord Krishna”. The rebuttal video from Dr. MAV Swamy is also getting circulated on social media[5]. As this time, this roused passion among the Hindus, they demonstrated against his remarks and also filed complains.  On 02-03-2019 [saturday], Hindus staged a demonstration at Chepauk condemning Veeramani, in which, many scholars participated. Particularly, Prof M. A. Venkatakrishnanan, HOD of Vaishnava Studies, University of Madras participated and explained the issue in context, condemned Veeramani and exposed his illogical blasphemous statements. Perhaps, this has been the first time in the Dravidian rule that Hindus have effectively come out and refuted the atheists and condemned them[6]. However, the media has downplayed the event. What prof M. A. Venkatakrishnanan spoke can be listened to here[7].

Criminal case has been booked by the Central Crime Branch police: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police has booked a criminal case against Dravidar Kazhagam leader K. Veeramani for his disparaging remarks against a Hindu God while addressing a public meeting recently[8]. The police filed the case after receiving complaints from Hindu Makkal Katchi and Thirumoolar Thiruthondu, a religious organisation[9]. In their complaint, the Thirumoolar Thiruthondu members alleged that Mr. Veeramani spoke of Lord Krishna in a derisive manner at a meeting in Periyar Thidal, Vepery. B. Senthil, general secretary, Hindu Makkal Katchi, complained that Veeramani, in his speech, had made derogatory remarks hurting religious sentiments and promoting enmity. Hence, they wanted the police to take action against him. The CCB registered a first information report (FIR) against Mr. Veeramani under sections 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (Promoting enmity between classes), 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings), 298 (Uttering, words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person), 505 (1)(b), (Inducing any person to commit an offence against the State or against the public tranquility) and 505(1)(c)(statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) of the IPC.

DK veeramani canvassed for Tiruavukkarasu

DK veeramani canvassed for Tiruavukkarasu Congress leader, hitherto abusing each other ideologically and for other reasons.

Congress leader sat with rable rouser Veeramani: A day after a few Hindu Munnani cadres disrupted a Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) public meeting at Trichy, the city police on 08-04-2019, Friday arrested a total of 16 people in connection with the incident. The arrested include cadres from both outfits[10]. Gandhi Market police registered a case and arrested nine Hindu Munnani members including functionaries Manikandan and Balamurugan[11]. The police also arrested seven DK members including local functionaries Arockiyaraj and Mohandoss. This has been typical secular police action, just to satisfy both cadres. DK members alleged that negligence in providing security and failure to evacuate Hindu Munnani cadres from the venue led to the violence which left four of their cadres injured. The outfit was holding a public meeting showing support for Congress candidate Su Thirunavukkarasar at Keerakadai Bazaar when a host of Hindu Munnani members threw stones at the gathering. In fact, video shows exchange took place between the two groups. However, it is strange to note, how, Thrunavukkarasar, who wants his name to be called so not as “Thirunavukkarasan” or “Thirunavukkarasu,” but with respect, sat together wit the anti-Hindu Veeramani, tha too, when he indulged in such rants recently made against Sri Krishna. He was in AIADMK and BJP and now in Congress, therefore, none could believe that he has been so naïve to accommodate such rabble-rouser.

DK version of attack - Krishna issue

DK version of attack – Krishna issue

DK justifying the derogatory remarks of Veeramani: DK members said that permission for the meeting was obtained from the election and police departments by intimating them of the presence of DK president K Veeramani and DMK MLA K N Nehru. Though DK cadres preferred to host the meeting near Sedal Mariyamman temple in Bhima Nagar, they were given permission to host the meeting at Keerakadai. As the meeting progressed, while DK’s general secretary Arivukkarasu was justifying a controversial remark made by DK leader K Veeramani at Hindu god Krishna, a group of Hindu Munnani cadre pelted stones and plastic chairs at the dais. “It seems like a planned attack as there was no adequate police protection to prevent the violence. Even after the assault, the vehicle of our leaders was stopped and there were attempts to assault them,” a DK member.

Stalin - Veeramani plot 07-04-2019 i.e, Stalin claries and defends Veeramani and Veeramani accepts his defense!

Stalin – Veeramani plot 07-04-2019 i.e, Stalin claries and defends Veeramani and Veeramani accepts his defense!

Permission to conduct meeting does mean to justify blasphemy: Already, police complaint has been lodged against Veeramani. Therefore, it is meaningless, justify his statements made against Sri Krishna. Meanwhile, Hindu Munnani founder organiser Rama Gopalan claimed DK members attacked them first after they opposed DK leaders criticising lord Krishna. “As per election model code of conduct, remarks insulting religious sentiments are prohibited. Though we have lodged complaints across against K Veeramani’s derogatory remarks, police are hesitant in taking action,” Rama Gopalan said. People of Tamilnadu should wait and see, what action police or any law enforcing authority going to take against Veeramani or his cadre?

DK and Hidu Munnani clash in Veeramani meeting-Tamil news cutting.2

Some leaders condemn Veeraani, but, attack also: AMMK deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran, in Trichy on Friday, condemned the attack by Hindu Munnani members on the cadres of Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) over the alleged derogatory remarks on Hindu gods. He also disapproved of the comments made by the rationalists[12]. “What they (DK) did was also wrong. But if they say something derogatory in a democratic country, one can sue them and can react to them in the court of law. The act of attacking them will set a wrong precedence in Tamil Nadu and it will trigger turbulence among the people. If they take the law in their hands, it will boomerang,” Dhinakaran told the reporters in Trichy in his response to DK and its president K Veeramani’s religious remarks on Hindus[13]. As he has been talking according to the occasion and context, it cannot be taken taken seriously.

In fact, they themselves have felt ashamed of what and how they spoke ath the occasion. So the question is when such obedient and ideological oriented persons occupy higher positions, how the state missionaries could function when Karunanidhi like politicians sit as CMs?

The 10th National Conference of ABISY was held at Mysore from December 24th to 26th 2015 on “Women in Indian culture: From ancient to Modern” jointly organized / sponsored by the Akhila Bharatiya Itihasa Sankalana Yojana  Centenary Celebration Committee of University of Mysore, Mysuru and Indian Council of historical reseach (hereinafter mentioned as ICHR).  As the theme attracted, some came with papers delving upon the main theme. On 23rd morning itself, about 200 delegates were there in the premises of Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Manasagangotri and they were accommodated in the hostels of Narmada, Krishna, Ganga etc. As more and more delegates started coming, they were accommodated in Terapanta Bhawan. VIP-delegates were accommodated in the University Guest House. The delegate fee of Rs. 750/- was charged and 870 were registered delegates as on 25-12-2015. The press was also briefed about it earlier[3].

ABISY – Centenary Celebration Committee of University of Mysore

Centenary Celebration Committee of University of Mysore[4]: For this, K.S Rangappa VC had appointed a centenary celebration committee. The committee consists of MPs, the former Prime Minister H.D Deve Gowda, former vice chancellors, litterateurs and other distinguished scientists[5]. After rigorous discussion the committee has come up with some projects with members of all shades of political and economic interests[6]. About the request of Rs.100 crores for the celebration and allocation of Rs.50 crires, “The Hindu” reported characteristically[7]. Even as the University of Mysore was getting ready to host its centenary celebration, the government, in a goodwill gesture, announced a grant of Rs. 50 crore for the historic fete which began on July 27, 2015, the day the university was established in 1916. The university had sought Rs. 100 crore from the government for the centenary fete. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, however, doled out Rs. 50 crore in the State Budget presented by him[8]. Expressing gratitude towards the government’s gesture, VC K.S. Rangappa said, “I thank the government for its benevolence. Actually, we had sought Rs. 100 crore from it for realising certain projects. But we are happy with the allocation.” A website was created and brochure issued[9]. Thus, among the other projects and programmes, the hosting of the Conference was included in the agenda by the Committee.

ABISY – Senate hall entrance – Inagural function

Inagural session (24-12-2015): The inaguration was held at the “Senate Hall” and there was secuirity checking, as two State Governors Karnataka HE Vajubhai Vala and Goa HE Mridula Sihna were participating. The delegates were taken to the venue from the Hostels by buses and the hall was full within half-an-hour. Sri Suresh Joshi Bhayyaji, Sarkaryavah, RSS was the guest speaker. Prof K. S. Rangappa, VC, University of Mysuru was the Chief Gust of Honour. They were waiting for the arrival of the Governors. On the stage nothing was there and the backdrop was just started putting up. The chairs were brought one by one and arranged on the stage. Three framed pictures were brought and placed on the chairs, but, they were not fittimg into, so two were removed and only one – that of Bharat Mata was accommodated in a chair. As mentioned, the programme was not started by 9.15, but by 10.15 am in a different way. The Zonal incharges of Bharatiya Itihasa Sankalana Samiti (hereinafter mentioned as BISS) were called.

ABISY - Senate hall entrance - Inagural function - secuirity check

ABISY – Senate hall entrance – Inagural function – secuirity check

Historians honoured by the organizedrs: 10.24 am: The programme was started. Each zonal incharge was asked to announce the historian selected. Thus, the following announced their respective historian as mentioned against each:

  1. Kataraia, Udaipur…………by……….
  2. Sher Singh announced………….
  3. Dilip Kumar Bhukkan announced for Assam by…………
  4. Anand Sharma (Uttaranchal)…………
  5. Rahman Ali, Ujjain was selected by………….
  6. Seernivasa Rao announced Prof A. Sundara.
  7. Anuradha (Telingana) announced Y. Sudhrshana Rao[10].

It was surprising that for the States, Seemanthra, Tamilnadu and Kerala, no historian of worth could be recognized and announced by them for honouring. It is clear that either the orgnizers or the Zonal incharge could have been so ignorant about their respective regions / States to select and nominate the historians or they did not want take such decision judiciously considering the facts. Ironically, the BISS, Tamilnadu shows many popular historians in their organization – Dr K. V. Raman, Dr R. Nagaswamy, Dr Rama Bai, Prof Dr K. M. Rao, Dr S. Kalyanaraman and others, yet the Zonal incharge could not think of anybody snd nominate nobody! Of course, there have been many-more in those states. When all were happening, many came (some important persons, scholars and elderly people) and returned, as none could recognize them or made them to seat! For instance, Tumkur University VC came and kept waiting and standing, for some time and he was not cared by anybody. Perhaps, the hall received more members to be acommodated than available seating arrangement!

Dr S Kalyana Raman lecture at IGNCA Bangalore Dec.23, 2001

Dr S Kalyana Raman lecture at IGNCA Bangalore Dec.23, 2001 – generally, he used to present on “Saraswati” related topics.

A presentation on “Sarasawati River Civilization”: 10.36 am: Inagural song was sung.

10.40 am: Welcoming the delegates, the person concluded with “Jai Hind, Jai Karnataka”!

11.01 am: Prashant Bharadwaj, Haryana Water Board, started explaining about the “Sarasawati River Civilization” with some slides, which were not at all attractive. Moreover, he was explaing in Hindi and thus evidently noot understood by the delegates coming from different states other than the Hindi speaking ones. It has to be mentioned that earlier Dr S. Kalyanaraman used to give presentation on “Sarasawati River Civilization” with many slides and lot of information, as he has been working on the subject and written many books[11].  He has published many books on the Sindhu-Saraswati civilization. Now, why he was not there was intriguing, as obviously, his absence was reveleaed through some slides used as noted.  However, it was learnt later that he had sent a PPT with many slides for presentation, but ignored by the organizers. About the differing views on “Saraswati” river, a comprehensive note can be seen here[12].

11.20 to 11.35 am: On RHS of the auditorioum, thee was commotion, as the seats meant for the press people were occupied by the delegates. So when chairs were put before the front road, the police objected to it on secuirity reasons.  The shouting stopped and they were made to settle down.

Dignified dress, Indian women, Media’s role and the apology of the MP who pleaded for the cause!

August 9, 2014

Dignified dress, Indian women, Media’s role and the apology of the MP who pleaded for the cause!

TDP PMs remarks about the dress of Indian women

TDP PMs remarks about the dress of Indian women

Murli Mohan Maganti Telugu Desam Party MP, while discussing on the safety of women, opined his views about wearing decent dress. The media reported it as follows:

·         Deccan Chronicle says[1], “TDP member Murali Mohan ‘advises’ women to dress properly, sparks controversy………….”;

·         Zee News declares[2], “TDP MP makes sexist remark in Parliament, later apologises”, While none of the media either print or electronic has given the full version of what was read in the Parliament, most of the media mentioned only part of the following line picked up from his speech, as if he talked something nonsence or serious or sexist comments as interpreted, “……to uphold the tradition of our Indian culture, I would earnestly appeal to all my sisters, daughters and girls to dress dignifiedly,”

·         The Business Standard added the following[3], “I would appeal to brothers to treat every woman as his own family member,” he said. “This would be a tribute to mother India.”

·         Odhisha Times also carried these sentences[4].

·         IBNlive says[5], “TDP MP makes sexist remarks in Lok Sabha, says women should dress in a ….”. India Today has its version[6].

·         Deccan Chronicle[7] agains came with that “Twitterati slams TDP MP Murali Mohan Maganti over his women remark”.

The reporter was virtually forcing him to react: The conversation between the TV reporter and the MP appeared dramatic, as a viewer could not understand what was wrong in the speech of the MP.

Sir, you said like that, can you define what do you mean by “dignified dress”?

I read agaid what I read in the Parliament, re-read from the paper in his hands as follows:: “I endlessly appeal to daughters, sisters and girls of the country to dress in a dignified way and uphold the tradition of Indian culture. I appeal to my brothers to treat every girl as a family member and treat her with respect. This will be a great tribute to Mother India. India has had a special place across the world for its culture.” Here, what is offending, indecent and shocking to women is intriguing.

Indian women dress comments apology etc

Indian women dress comments apology etc

Dignified dress means Indian dress and not modern.

Can you say that modern dress is not dignified?

Nodded in affirmative.

But, your comments are not offending women?

If offending, I wittdraw them?

But, the women are offended.

If my comments are bothering them, I apololize to them.

Shobha Oza, the President of All India Women Congress (AIWC) responded sas usual that the men were trying to advice about the dress and all and that was not necessary.

Criticism of the statement made by the TDP MP: The Women’s rights activists and women political leaders called the statement really immature.

Actor and YSRC politician Roja said that Mr Murali Mohan was making big and intellectual statements though he had been an actor all his life.

“What does he mean by dignified?: A sari exposes more than a jeans with a t-shirt. It is up to a woman what she wants to wear. Being a hero and a producer, what drove him to make such a comment? He is a full time commercial hero and this shows double standards. He is simply making big and intellectual statements, whereas his movies have portrayed much more stuff.”

Social media too poked fun at the actor-turned MP. Netizens questioned what he meant by the term “dignified” and asked why rapes of minor girls were being reported in the country.

Displaying a medieval mindset: Shabbir kD þ@shabbirkd wrote: “Our MPs are displaying a medieval mindset. No wonder they cannot protect our women.”

An extra inch of visible flesh causes them to rape..!!: aastha chauhan þ@aasthachauhan27: “Really..? An extra inch of visible flesh causes them to rape..!! Well, this is more an insult to MEN than women…”

better rules & regulations & respect for women, not lectures:  Siva Kumar Raju þ@iamsivaji: “Does he really care about women? if he did, he might have demanded better rules & regulations & respect for women, not lectures

MP does not stand up against such sexism: MnM þ@McSpare: “If our elected women MPs will not stand up against such sexism in the Lok Sabha who else will?”

Should women opt for designing dress?: Afaq Alam Ansari þ@Afaq_404: “Should opt for designing dresses for women if they show their incompetence as MP by stating such comments.”

If man can wear anything, why not women?: Indi Patriot þ@theindipatriot: A sari is so much more peek a boo than a full t-shirt and jeans…but then they say a man sees what he wants to.”

Dress should not be obscene: Jeevitha Rajashekar, former actor and BJP leader said, “It is completely a personal choice of women. We know how to dress decently. He should not say that they should not wear modern clothes. He did not follow what he said in his acting carrier. I believe that every person should wear what they are comfortable in and it should not be obscene be it either men or women.”

The comments were idiocy: Vasanth Kannabiran, Founder member, Asmita Collective for Women said, “This is pure idiocy. It is very troubling on how this whole thing is going on about women and their way of living. Are they trying to go back in the dark ages? The MP needs to go back and get some education. Does he even know about equality? What are his qualifications? He is thinking 60-years backward. They should be penalised for speaking like this as this is directed to a whole bunch of people. How do these people talk with such insensitive and casual attitude? They know they can get away with it and more than half will agree with what he said. But, if one is punished, the next will learn. This is total impunity.”

What the responses show: If the responses are put together, the following points draw attention.

  1. What does he mean by dignified?
  2. Displaying a medieval mindset
  3. An extra inch ofvisible flesh causes them to rape..!!
  4. better rules & regulations & respect for women, not
  5. MP does not stand up against such sexism
  6. Should women opt for designing dress?
  7. If man can wear anything, why not women?
  8. Dress should not be obscene.
  9. The comments were idiocy.

No doubt, girls, young ladies and women have every right to wear any dress of their choice or othyerwise and none could advise them. As for as the mode of dress in the context of rape, many times, some police officers, women activists and others have come up with the idea of “women wearing decent dress”. But every time, they have been questioned, objected to and pressurize to change their opinion by the media. Here also the MP has expressed his views very politely, carefully and sensitively with all respect to women. Yet, the media played it differently and the activists responded in its line. One has to wait and see, who would be the real gainder in such sensitive issues affecting the honour of Indian women.

Critics do not offer positive or constructiove criticium or ideas, but other critics are condemned: At one side conservative, moderate and conventional views, responses and opinions have always been condemned, criticized and even disparaged. The aggressive criticism agains them has been so severe that even others have been silenced to opine asbout the issue. Many times their voices are silenced or the opinions edited and suppressed. However, the criticizers have not come out with any ideas to curb the menace of raping of women in India. Particularly, in the context of Meerut, a communal factor is found and it affects the thinking processes of all.
