Vairamuthu’s research on Andal, the “quoted quote research methodology,” and the confession of “eminent historians”!

Vairamuthu’s research on Andal, the “quoted quote research methodology,” and the confession of “eminent historians”!

Andal, Vairamuthu controversy

The controversy started with Vairamuthu on Andal (07-1-2018): What Vairamuthu wrote about Andal as appeared in “Dinamani” in Tamil, and its translation is given as follows[1]: “As Andal was not born to Periyazhwar, there were no details available about her birth, though, she was brought up by a Brahmin, as the society that was controlled with caste stratification might not accept her into such caste hierarchy, Andal herself had already attained the freedom of word with force and there was a practice of offering women to temple accepted by the then society, some researchers have been compelled to arrive at stunning conclusions. The book ‘Indian Movement: some aspects of dissent, protest and reform’ edited by Subash Chandra Malik of Indiana University, USA contains such reference as follows: Andal was herself a devadasi who lived and died in the Srirangam Temple. The devotees might not accept this, but, those who oppose patriarchy and socio-religious (code) might think about it.” This created the controversy that is still raging in Tamilnadu and some parts of Andhra and Karnataka. Ironically, now, Dinamani has removed the controversial or rather blasphemous article and their regrets are appearing there[2].

Vairamuthu, Vaidhyanathan, dinamani

Verification of the book referred to by Vairamuthu: Now, let us analyze the “quote” of the learned poet and writer of Vairamuthu. As he has given the reference, now, as a “researcher”, anyone can go to the source and verify.

India movements, S C Malik edited book

Thus, let us see the book under reference. M. G. S. Narayanan and Veluthat Kesavan published a paper, “The Bhakti Movement in South India” in “Indian Movements: Some Aspects of Dissent Protest and Reform,” edited and introduced by S. C. Malik and published by Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla in 1978. In which, what they claimed was,

Cheraman Perumal Nayanar notes the reception given to Shiva by devadasis of all ages while he went out in procession around the streets in Kailas35, and Andal herself is a Devadasi who lived and died in the Sri Rangam Temple36.

Quotations of MGS

The two footnotes given for support for those two lines are as follows:

  1. Ceraman Perumal Nayanar, Adiyula, M. Raghava Aiyangar, ed. Caruventar Ceyyukovai, 1951, Trivandrum, Vol.II, pp.136-64.
  1. T. A. Gopinatha Rao, The History of Sri Vaishnavas, Madras, 1923, Madras, p. 5.

MGS, Kesavan , tthe book

So when we look at page no.5 of the said book, what, T. A. Gopinatha Rao recorded is this, “When she reached marriageable age, she refused to marry anyone except the God Ranganatha of the Srirangam temple. The God appeared to the Alvar in a dream to declare before him his acceptance of the girl in marriage and ordered her to be brought to his residence at Srirangam. Periyalvar took her there with great eclat and left her in her Lord’s house and returned to his quiet residence at Srivilliputtur.

Quotations of MGS- TAG Rao reference

Therefore, there is nothing like what the learned historians M. G. S. Narayanan and Veluthat Kesavan reportedly claimed, “Andal herself is a Devadasi who lived and died in the Sri Rangam Temple.” Why then, the leaned “historians” wrote in that way and what was their motive?

Quotations of MGS- TAGopinatha Rao reference,p.5

M. G. S. Narayanan clarified to Dinathanthi that there was no such reference to Devadasi[3]: When Asoka Vardhini contacted M. G. S. Narayanan through phone, he accepted that there was no specific reference to Andal as devadasi and he mentioned it based on inference only. He also accepted that Veluthat Kesavan was a student of him, doing M.A history (implying that he might not have been having research expertise at that time). There is no inscriptional evidence to that effect and it was written only based on “oral tradition.” When she asked specifically, he specifically confessed that there is no primary evidence and even secondary evidence to that effect, it was a controversial interpretation and a “matter of inference”. Then, naturally, it is intriguing and shocking to know as to know how they could have written conclusively, “Andal was herself a devadasi who lived and died in the Srirangam Temple.” Now, he is considered as one of reputed and eminent historians of India, former chairman of ICHR and so on. Why them, they stooped to such “quoted quote” research methodology, amounting faking and forging such lies and falsehood in historiography?

Vairamuthu regrets for Andal comments

The implications of “quoted quote research,” bogey of “eminent historians” and other modern-day mythistories: Now let us analyze their quotations, reportedly lifted from two books mentioned above.

  1. The book in question was published by Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla in 1978 and not by Indiana University, USA as claimed by Vairamuthu.
  1. Vairamuthu should have verified the sources before quoting, that too, part of a sentence picking up from their paper. He must have consulted the original sources (as he knows Tamil very well) and also other secondary sources after 1978 to present his speech and “researched” article appeared.
  1. Ironically, he and the press, still carry such wrong and falsified blabbering[4]. “As part of my research for writing this article on Aandaal, I happened to read a collection of articles edited by Subhash Chandra Malik in the name of “Indian Movements: Some Aspects of Dissent, Protest and Reform”, the original from Indiana University and published by Indian Institute of Advanced Study in 1978. It is very much an Indian research study by Indian historians,”thus claimed Vairamuthu.[5]
  1. Vairamuthu added, “Professor M.G.S Narayanan & Professor Kesavan Veiuthat. Professor M. G. S Narayanan is considered as “one of India’s top authorities on ancient history” and has served as the chairman of Indian Council of Historical Research. Professor Kesavan Veluthat is the Professor of History in University of Delhi. The line mentioned in my article was from a reputed publication and by reputed historians.” But, M. G. S. Narayanan now refuted. Here, Vairamuthu mentioned, “G.S Narayanan is considered as “one of India’s top authorities on ancient history,” whereas, the subject dealt with has not been so ancient!
  1. Cheraman Perumal Nayanar notes the reception given to Shiva by devadasis of all ages while he went out in procession around the streets in Kailas35.” M. G. S. Narayanan himself accepted that the story of Cheraman Perumal was a myth floated after 13th century by the vested Mohammedan groups. Therefore, the question of devadasis of all sorts going out in procession is redundant, immaterial and incompetent.
  1. Andal herself is a Devadasi who lived and died in the Sri Rangam Temple36.” This is also fake, fraudulent and deceptive, as T.A. Gopinatha Rao never mentioned such sentence in his book, as pointed out above.
  1. It is unbecoming for these researchers, now, paraded as “historians” to quote that was not there in a book, secondary source.
  1. It exposes the dubious and dangerous nature of “quoted quote” research methodology, as most of the researchers, may not look into the quotes recorded by the “eminent historians.”
  1. Coming to ideology, it is evident that the involved personalities have been Marxists and atheists and thus, their speeches and writings have been tarnished with bias, prejudice and without objectivity.
  1. As the Marxist ideology is coupled with Dravidian ideology of atheism, that is directed against Hindu religion, evidently, Hindus have come to streets. How they have been oppressed, suppressed and attacked by them since 1960s have been too well-known to be repeated here.

DK opposing Rajini-

Atheism versus Spirituality – debate started: Speakers propagating atheist philosophy slammed religious beliefs, especially in Hinduism, at the World Atheist Conference here on Friday (05-01-2018). The concept of spiritual politics espoused by superstar Rajinikanth also came in for sharp criticism. It is not known as to why Rajni’s politics should be attacked and criticized in the “World Atheist Conference”. Evidently, as Trichy has been strong base of Rajini’s fans and his political ambitions would erode the Dravidian polity and as well as the prospects of DMK, the WAC has been exploited to attack Rajini politics.  Though Rajini’s concept was much debated over the past few days, some speakers found it nascent and lacking clarity. However, Dravida Kazhagam leader K. Veeramani aid that people propagating ideology of spiritual politics would be exposed sooner than later. Speaking on the sidelines of the conference, he said spiritual politics was nothing but a tool that might be used to deceive people. Politics was in no way related to spirituality. Spiritual politics stressed on the existence of spirit which was called ‘Atma’. The aim of the conference was to counter the very existence of spirit through philosophical arguments. Those trying to mislead people in the name of spirit would be exposed soon, he said. Ironically, even the atheist religions like Jainism and Buddhism believed “Atma”, rebirth, etc.

WAC, Trichy, Kanimozhi

During public session, Rajinikantha’s “Spiritual Politics” attacked: Lakshman Tamil from Periyar International, USA said that those thinking about starting a political party in the state could not ignore Periyar or Dravidian movement for their brand value. He said that one could become popular in the state by invoking the name of Periyar. Lakshman recalled how his father had told him to be honest also when he expressed his wish to become an atheist like Thanthai periyar. Periyar had set high standards to be an atheist, he said. aking a jibe at Rajini, Dravidian Tamil Federation general secretary Suba Veerapandian said that a person had recently visited Gopalapuram (the residence of DMK leader M Karunanidhi) to seek his blessings[1]. But little did he know that he could only get rationalist lessons from the leader and not his blessings[2]. Rationalists and atheists had been criticising the actor for giving his political move a religious colour. Though Rajinikanth had come out in the open with a statement clarifying his stand, not many seemed to be convinced.

WAC-3, Times of India

“Dravidian philosophy is the only alternative to Hindutva”: Untouchability is the worst tyranny any part of the world has ever seen. So is the caste system. And these are practiced in the name of God, said Dravida Kazhagam leader K Veeramani here on Friday (05-01-2018). Speaking at the World Atheism Conference 2018 in Trichy, Veeramani said India is land of atheism, not temples. Atheism is not just the denial of religion, but denial of all superstitions associated with it too. He said atheism dated back to 1500 CE in our country. Lakshman Tamil, Periyar International, USA, said caste system is the bane of India and society cannot progress as long as this Vedic system exists. Hinduism cannot claim that it is all-encompassing until it disowns the Vedas, he said. Buddhism and Jainism moved away from people and lost their relevance[3]. The Dravidar Kazhagam has created a populous atheist movement and it is the true Shramana movement of the modern time in terms of the core philosophy of atheism, he said. Terming Periyar’s atheism the most relevant, Lakshman Tamil said it is also a populous movement. Its multifaceted nature has also contributed to its popularity. “Dravidian philosophy is the only alternative to Hindutva. People have to choose between Hindutva, which is a Vedic tradition that is based on hate and segregates people in the name of caste, and Dravidian philosophy, which preaches self-respect,” said Lakshman Tamil[4].

WAC-3, Times of India- attacking Rajini

2G-Raja spoke on his atheism in Tihar and outside: Former Union telecom minister A Raja started off by thanking the CBI and the CAG for making him popular worldwide in the 2G spectrum case. “Being an atheist since teenage, his belief in atheism strengthened further during his imprisonment in the Tihar jail when he saw prisoners, who included rapists and murderers, making a beeline to offer oil to a figure of Saturn (Shani). Hinduism was used as a tool by upper caste people to keep a majority section poor by denying them education. This is a country where people are divided in terms caste. And this notion is created by religion”, he said. As many as 500 papers on atheism are going to be presented in the conference that is going to last for 3 days.

WAC-3, The Hindu, 06-01-2016

The Second Day paper reading session (06-01-2018): The seconday paper reading session was held in Einstein Auditorium, for which K. Veeramani chaired and  Narendra Naik, President, Indian Federation of Rationalist Associations acted as moderator. Devadoss welcomed the speakers and delegates. Elizabeth O’ Cassey delivered a special lecture.

Thaneswar Sahu, Philosopher professor and President of Odhisha Rationalist Association spoke on “Science, Scientific thinking – A Perspective.”

  1. Raja Kennedy, Rationalist Teachers Forum, spoke on, “Encouraging Scientific temper amomg the children”.
  2. Ramasamy, Professor and Rationalist from Madurai, spoke on “Atheist-Humanist Fighters Periyar and Gora”.

Suvinnila, Vice-President, Rationalist Association gave vote of thanks. Here, also, the speakers had repeated the points. They always tried to take “Science” as weapon against religious beliefs and dub them as “Superstition,” but, they could not tackle the issue of “Scientific superstition,” prevalent exploiting the public under forced propaganda, dubious advertisements and aggressive marketing.

WAc,Kanimozhi speaks

Rationalists attacked, women treated badly by all religions- Kanimozhi: The evening seession was held at Puthur Periyar auditorium, Trichy as a public meeting, in which Kanimozhi, Tirumavalavan, C. Vijayan (Director, Vijayawada Rationalist Centre) spoke. Atheist and rationalists all around the world are under threat, said Rajya Sabha MP K Kanimozhi on the second day of the World Atheist Conference, organised by Dravidar Kazhagam in Trichy on Saturday (06-01-2018)[5]. She hoped the believers or religious minded attending the conference see the “………….true light of Periyar. The people who have congregated here are already atheist. Even then why we have gathered? Why do we have to preach ourselves when we have already converted? But we have to come together to show that we are together and what humanity means to the world ……. said no religion treats women equal to a man in every aspect, be it Hinduism, Christianity or Islam……………All religion says a woman has to obey a man. Women have been denied their rights in every religion. That was the reason Periyar denied all religion…………..There are reformers and feminist around the world who are fighting for women’s rights. I respect all of them, but there is one true feminist in this world and that is Periyar……………Religion is nothing but fear. How much blood has been shed, how many wars have been fought in this world because of religion?…………..God has never killed anyone for their wrongdoing and has remained a spectator. He would never act or react………….There is a threat for all atheists and rationalists around the world. To show our strength, we all should stand united and fight against hatred. Atheism and humanism are the only truths,” she said[6]. The Scroll.in just reproduced that TOI reported[7]. Irony that their correspondents, colunists or reporters could not add more than that TOI published[8].

The World Atheist Conference 2018 conducted with tall claims: The World Atheist Conference 2018 (hereinafter mentioned as WAC) was conducted with tall claims made on January 5th to 7th 2016 at Trichy. It was commenced here with an emphasis on setting right in equalities in the society, quelling superstitions, and propagating rationalistic thinking. Titled ‘Atheism – Hope of Humanity’ and what not, the three-day program organised jointly by the Dravidar Kazhagam, Atheist Centre, Vijayawada and The Rationalists’ Forum witnessed delegates representing rationalist organisations in different parts of India and other countries, taking part in the inaugural and plenary sessions, and presenting their views on an array of topics that included atheism, religious fundamentalism, and medicine and atheism[1]. Presiding over, K. Veeramani, president, Dravidar Kazhagam, said atheism in India means much beyond non-belief in supernatural and religious rituals, and that the prime focus was on rectifying untouchability in the society perpetuated in the name of religion, and denial of education on the basis of birth[2].

WAC, Trichy - foreign delegates, Nadaswaram

Features of the Conference (as claimed by the organizers): As claimed by the organizers, Atheist – Humanists around the world participate in the conference, besides the leaders of various atheist, rationalist and humanist organizations from all the States of the country, Paper presentations by atheist scholars and activists followed by deep deliberations on the different perspectives of atheist philosophy, form the major part of the conference proceedings, Sharing of religion-free living culture in various countries / societies and churning up the substance on living free from the fear of god, enabling humanity to progress and peace, Revealing the success, in establishing the egalitarian society free from the belief of non existing ‘god’ through the services of organizations and movements by atheist philosophers and Documenting the pioneering role rendered by atheist movements in the East during the early historical period.

Garry McLelland-WAC, Trichy

The Rationalists’ Forum: The Rationalists’ Forum claims that it, “is a Humanist Movement founded by Periyar in 1971 and presently patronised by Dr. K. Veeramani, President, Dravidar Kazhagam. It is a unique movement, because of the composition of membership and the activities. People who are committed to Periyar ideology and employed in various organisations – government, public private co-operative have shouldered the responsibility of preaching and practicing rationalistic ideals”. The activities include organising meetings, seminars, science exhibition, superstition exposure show to develop scientific temper and humanism among the public. Many State and Central Ministers, Vice Chancellors of Universities, educationalists, officials who are at helm of affairs to-day were the earlier functionaries of The Rationalists’ Forum.

Elizebeth WAC trichy

The Organizers of the Atheist Conference[3]: The organizers have been:

  1. Dravidar Kazhagam (Tamil Nadu), Atheist Centre (Vijayawada) and
  2. The Rationalists’ Forum (Tamil Nadu) jointly organise World Atheist Conference 2018.

WAC is the ideological confluence of atheist, rationalist and humanist fraternity from the countries – England, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, United States etc. and from all the States of India. WAC proceedings cover seminar and sittings with lecture delivery and paper presentation on the various dimensions of atheism , rationalism and humanism. Film show, video presentations, science exhibition, book fair are planned. A massive public procession with demonstrations exposing superstition is scheduled. A Souvenir containing essays, real stories, personal experiences of eminent persons on atheism and allied ideologies gets released on the occasion. Many leaders and persons of eminence from State and Central Governments, educationalists intellectuals participate in the proceedings.

WAC, Trichy - stage-1

Were foreign delegates conscious of the Dravidian atheism?: The foreign delegates attended the conference, but, what they spoke was not revealed by the organizers, the media and the participants:

  1. Gary McLelland[4], Chief Executive, International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU), London[5], and
  2. Avinash Patil, Executive President, Maharashtra Andhrashraddha Nirmoolan Samithi, Pune, Maharashtra, were the other guest speakers.
  3. Elizabeth O’ Cassey[6], Director of Advocasy – IHEU, Brussels, Belgium, inaugurated an exhibition of books at the Atheist Book Centre. Rustam Singh, Atheist Alliance International, USA;
  4. Suba Veerapandian, General Secretary, Dravidian Tamil Federation; and
  5. Rajaratnam, Pro-Chancellor, Periyar Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed to be University), Vallam, Thanjavur also spoke.

Five books were released on the occasion: ‘Bhagavad Gita – Myth or Mirage,’ and ‘March of Atheism’ authored by Veeramani, Compilation of ‘Old Testament of Indian Atheism’ by Surendra Anjat, ‘Essays on Matters which Matter’ (A Rationalist’s Perception) by S. Rajaratnam, and Compilation of ‘Revolt’ published by Periyar in 1928 and 1929. It is evident that Compilation of ‘Old Testament of Indian Atheism’ by Surendra Anjat, and conspicuously, there was no book released about the position of atheism in Islam or existence of “Islamic atheists”. As happened in 2011, this year also, most of the foreign delegates came and attended did not know about DK, EVR, Dravidian atheism etc., as they talk about Humanism, human rights, etc.

WAC-3, women delegates from north

Inaugural session: During the inagural session, A. Raja, Sp. Suba Veerapandian, Gary McLelland, Elezabet O’Cassey, Avinash Patil and others spoke and thereafter, papers were presented. Ironically, A. Raja, former Union Minister of Telecommunication (who was in jail for 2G scam, came out on bail and acquitted by the Court recently), said he has been deriving inner strength from atheism. Ironically, the DK-ideologists talked as usual rhetoric with verbose without any new points. As usual, they made “stage-type” talk in Tamil and using few words and sentences in English to show off that it was an international conference. Ironically, the delegates came from Pujab, Maharastra, Andhrapradesh and Kartataka were talking in their mother tongue and Hindi when they conversed with each other. The same thing happened during the All India Atheist Conference held  at Periyar Tidal in May 2010, where, one invitee spoke in Hindi and it was translated by the DK ideologist. Now also, K. Veeramani during his speech accepted that the language bearer exists among the delegates coming from those states. Incidentally, their anti-Hindi stand gets exposed here, as with Tamil alone or any particular regional language alone, they cannot do anything.

“Glimpses of Srimad Bhagavatam” – National seminar held at Vijayawada: Bharatiya Itihasa Sankalana Samiti[1](hereinafter mentioned as BISS), Andhra Pradesh conducted two National Seminars on Ramayanam – Historicity and Maha Bharatam – Historicity in 2013 and 2015 in Ongole and Rajamundhry respectively.  In 2017, the BISS conducted a national seminar at Vijayawada on October 14th and 15th on “Glimpses of Srimad Bhagavatam”. Now that “Historicity” was dropped might be noted. The venue was “Haindavi” Bhavan, Street besides Lotus Land Mark[2], Ramalingeswara Peta, Vijayawada-3. Actually, it is in Sector-5, and the location is known as “near Ice Factory”. Hyndavi building, Vijayawada - photo Rajesh PadmarOutstation delegates had some difficulty to reach the venue. Incidentally, the multi-storied building was built, completed and inaugurated last year[3]. Sri Siddheswarananda Bharati Swamy of Sri Siddheswari Peetham (Tamil Nadu) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) All India Organising Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale inaugurated the RSS’s regional office ‘Hyndavi’ at Ayodhya Nagar here on August 5th, 2016 (Thursday)[4]. RSS office inaugrated 05-08-2016 Vijayawada

The seminar hall has been equipped with Power point and other provisions. The organizers had made good arrangements – food, accommodation etc., for the delegates. Sri Koti Lakshmana Rao, secretary, BISS has been instrumental in bringing different researchers, scholars and others together.

Theme of the Seminar: Research Papers were received from scholars, Research Students and people who were interested in History of ancient India / Bharat and its culture, tradition, heritage and civilization. The organizers expressed in their circular specifically that the Samiti desired that the main focus of the presentations in the seminar should be on historical, geographical, political, social, and cultural as well as Dharmic and ethical perspectives. They suggested the following topics in the context:

1.       Viswa srushti

2.      Propositions on Dharma

3.      Astronomical perspectives

4.      Geographical references

5.      Rivers, Mountains, Forests

6.      Piligrimages

7.      Life style of forest dwellers, common people & kings (rulers)

8.     Status & significance of Women.

9.      Systems of Education

10.  Customs & Rituals

11.   Sculpture, Architecture & Fine Arts

12.  Kings, kingdoms, Royal dynasties,

Bhagawata seminar banner on the gate

About 40 papers were presented on the topics suggested, but overlapping. Most of the papers delved upon the devotional, descriptive, narrative, legendary aspects and discourses of Bhagawatham. Perhaps, only one paper delved upon the historical perspective, which touched upon the “Archaeological Evidences for the existence of “Historical Krishna”. In the present-day context, as ideology has been working at the Universities, schools and all other academic institutions and forums, it could be answered and countered only by ideology and not by devotional discourses. Of course, it is required and may be mandatory also at earlier stages of curriculum, hitherto followed as “Moral period / class” provided till 1970s. The “Moral period” was removed and of course, the degradation of sacademics could be noted thereafter in different aspects.

Bhagawata seminar - breafast

Critical edition of Bhagawatam has to be brought out: Critical editions of Ramayana and Mahabharat have been prepared and published by the Baroda Oriental Rearch Institute and Bhandarkar Oriental Rearch Institute respectively[5]. Similarly, critical edition of Bhagawatapurana should be published, so that researchers, scholars and students could conduct their research in the historical perspective. Approaching Bhagawatam in Sanskrit and other regional languages show how the work had been so popular and common among the common people for 2000 years. Though, the narrative, legendary and mythical details vary, the core of the subject matter remains intact and specific. The study / process of manuscripts to determine the original or most authoritative form of a text, especially of a piece of literature and thus arriving at an acceptable version and publication of it is known as “critical edition”. In Literary criticism it is stressing close reading and detailed analysis of a particular text. In such determination of determining the original or most authoritative form of a text, all the available manuscripts are subjected to study. Notably, in “India”(pre-colonial, pre-Mohammedan) thousands and millions of manuscripts had been available, as they were nothing but just like present-day printed books. In spite of the taking away, looting and burning libraries of temples, mutts and Universities, still millions of manuscript are available in thousands of archives, libraries – prove the fact. Perhaps, no other literature of any nation, language or society has been existing in this manner. Therefore, the variance found in Indian literature has been unique, interpolations incidental (other than internal nature of Jains, Buddhists etc) and differences inadvertent. Thus, a critical edition can be prepared.

Demythologization in Indian context: In Indian historiographical context, much of “demythologization” is also required. Demythologization as a hermeneutic approach to religious texts seeks to separate cosmological and historic claims from philosophical, ethical and theological teachings. Rudolf Bultmann (1884-1976) introduced the term demythologization (in German: Entmythologisierung) in this context[6]. It is to provide an explanation of something, or to present something, in a way that removes any mystery surrounding it. Here, actually, history has been mythologized to reach all and common people with easy understanding. The following have been generally noted as feature of mythologization of different aspects and subjects of humanity:

  1. Deification of personalities raising them to Godhead and God.
  2. Attributing miracles, grand feats, great exploitation, controlling nature etc.
  3. Recording Natural disasters (floods, volcanic eruptions, earth-quakes, submergence of land mass and other land disturbances) in their own fashion of divine scourge, punishment of God and so on.
  4. Good would always prevail over Bad, evil, injustice etc.
  5. “Cakravarti-kshetra” i.e, a king ruling vast area with unlimited or traditional boundaries (Himalsyas in the north, Kanyakumari / ocean in the south, Eastern Ocean in the east and the western ocean in the west)[7].
  6. Concept of dwelling land, continent changing from island (Jambudwipam, Navalanthivu) to the above boundaries.
  7. Movement of asterisms, planets etc., and their attribution to great personalities and gods.
  8. Synchronization of rites, festivals and celebrations with days, weeks, 15-days, 30-days, year and so on (Lunar calendar).
  9. Attribution of cyclic periods, growth of plants and trees, flowers and fruits top a particular god or Goddess.
  10. Existence of personalities for many years – 100, 1,000 etc., denoting existence of such ashrams, mutt etc.

Methodology adopted and adapted by the Puranic writers – a way of historiography: They are nothing but Puranas and they were updated during the course of time many times. The updating is nothing but adding details upto the date of updating, thus, if one Purana was uptated in 1500 CE, it would contain details upto 1500 CE from the beginning. Revising, renewing and modernizing Puranas was considered as imortant in those days. All the above topics would havealso been updated depending upon the acumen of the updating experts. However, reading such revised editions of Puranas (in manuscript forms), the wesern researchers and European colonial history writers presumed that such and such Purana was written in 1500 CE instead of 300 BCE, 500 BCE or even 1000 BCE. The Jaina[8] and Buddhists[9] had resorted to update in their own fashion by including their affairs and thus, they could bee seen in the manuscripts of Ramayana and Mahabharat also. But, no historian would accept that the dates of Jainism and Buddhism could go back to those periods. Though, the date of Ramayana has been entangled with “Yuga” calculations, the date of Mahabharat has been fixed to c.3102 BCE[10].

The Truth about the leaving mortal coil of Swami Vivekanda: Stop propagating nonsense against him!

Did Vivekanda die for controlling sex- Rekha Padmanabhan

Propaganda against Swami Vivekananda: July 4th happened to be the “Sraddhanjali Day” of Swami Vivekananda, but, this year 2017, I missed it, because of preoccupation with personal problems and conferences.  The Christian propaganda was there, ever since, he dominated the West with his Vedantic influence. That propaganda continues even today by the Christian missionaries and anti-Hindu propagandists with their fantastic stories spun and spread from time to time. I wanted to prepare a note on his “departure from this world,” as some people started misinterpreting his end with their own imaginative suggestions, concocted suppositions and ill-motivated ideas, turning into hypotheses. Ironically, some people have started doing under the guise of “motivational speaker” and so on[1]. Some other give their own of explanation[2]. Thus, I have been compelled to prepare this note hurriedly with the materials available in the internet.

If anybody attacks me, simply ignore his existence-Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda stood against all odds: Swami Vivekananda suffered heavily due to his restriction of food and ill-health. Slowly, he agreed to wear the warm cloths to protect himself from the climate in USA and European counties. Of course, writers too, used contribute their mite in 20th and 21st centuries with their “scientific” and “rational” interpretations. Thus, the  story Hindustan Times goes in this way: “In a life-span of only 39 years, Swami Vivekananda, who spread the message of India’s spiritual heritage across the world, battled several health problems all along and no less than 31 diseases and ailments[3]. ‘The Monk as Man’ by renowned Bengali writer Shankar lists insomnia, liver and kidney diseases, malaria, migraine, diabetes and heart ailments as some of the 31 health problems that the Swami faced in the course of his life[4]. Shankar describes Swami Vivekananda’s health problems using a Sanskrit quote ‘shariram byadhimandiram’ — the body is the temple of diseases”. How he suffered (from dysentery and fever) during the Paris “World Conference of Religion” was also well known. Yet, he fought battle, many times singularly.

Swami Vivekananda foresees about his health

‘Better to play football than read the Gita’: Yes, Swamiji wanted Indian youth to be assertive and strong to fight, but, the “Hindustan Times” goes to say, “Ironically, Vivekananda used to emphasise greatly on physical strength and is known for the shocking statement ‘Better to play football than read the Gita’. One of the perennial problems that Vivekananda lived with was chronic insomnia and in a letter to Shashi Bhushan Ghosh dated May 29, 1897, he confided “I never in my life could sleep as soon as I got into bed.” The previous year, Vivekananda seemed to have written to his ‘dhira mata’ (Sara Bull) from New York complaining about his lack of sleep. “My health has nearly broken down. I have not slept even one night soundly in New York since I came … I wish I could go to the bottom of the sea and have a good, long sleep.” He knew about his body and mind the strength of them. Therefore, now one need not comment that, “Ironically, Vivekananda used to emphasise greatly on physical strength and is known for the shocking statement ‘Better to play football than read the Gita’, as one has to understand the meaning. He did not say that you should not read Gita, but, play football!

Swami Vivekananda knew when he would die

Swamiji was suffering from diabetes: It is also known that Vivekananda used to suffer from diabetes like his father and at that time suitable drugs were unavailable. Shankar writes that Vivekananda had tried different modes of treatment ranging from allopathic, homoeopathic to ayurvedic and had also taken advice from all kinds of quasi-medical experts from various countries. He narrates that in the summer of 1887, Vivekananda (whose real name was Narendranath Dutta) had fallen very ill due to overstrain and lack of food. During this period, he also suffered from gallstones, and acute diarrhoea. Later, during the same summer, he came down with typhoid and problems in the urinary tract. “Narendranath’s abdominal pains were a source of great anxiety,” Shankar says. Shankar wonderfully chronicles the various medical problems Swami Vivekananda faced during his stint as a wandering monk in the country and across the world, and why he cut short his journey in Cairo, Egypt, to return to India. It was to French operatic soprano Rosa Emma Calvet that Vivekandanda had declared in Egypt that he would die on July 4, 1902. “Swami Vivekananda’s eyes filled with tears. He said he wanted to return to his country to die, to be with his gurubhais,” Shankar wrote. The fateful evening of July 4, 1902, Vivekananda passed away in Belur following a third heart attack, completing 39 years, five months and 24 days.

Narasingha Prosad Sil, Swami Vivekananda-A Reassessment, Selingrove- Susquehana University Press, USA, p.141.

The rupture of a blood vessel in his brain was reported as a possible cause of death[5]: There is no mystery surrounding the fact that Swami Vivekananda died in the year 1902. But not all of us know the real reason(s) behind his demise. Let’s explore the various theories related to Swami Vivekanda’s death as well as some unknown aspects of his life…Swami Vivekananda was born on 12 January 1863. On 4 July 1902 (the day of his death) Vivekananda awoke early, went to the chapel at Belur Math and meditated for three hours. He taught Shukla-Yajur-Veda, Sanskrit grammar and the philosophy of yoga to pupils. Later, along with several colleagues, he planned Vedic college in the Ramakrishna Math. It is stated that on the day of his sad demise, in the evening, around 7 p.m, Vivekananda went to his room, asking not to be disturbed. He died the same night at 9:10 p.m. while meditating. According to his disciples, Vivekananda attained Mahasamadhi; the rupture of a blood vessel in his brain was reported as a possible cause of death. His disciples believed that the rupture was due to his brahmarandhra (an opening in the crown of his head) being pierced when he attained Mahasamadhi[6]. Vivekananda fulfilled his prophecy that he would not live for forty years. He was cremated on a sandalwood funeral pyre on the bank of the Ganges in Belur, opposite where Ramakrishna was cremated sixteen years earlier. Swami Vivekananda, left his physical body on July 4th, 1902, when he was just 39 years old. Many people have wondered – what caused an evolved soul like Swami Vivekananda to die at such a young age? Aren’t yogi’s able to extend their own life-span and live for very long periods of time? As this was written in 2015, obviously, it was written based on “cardiac arrest ” hypothesis floated .

Narasingha Prosad Sil, Swami Vivekananda-A Reassessment, Selingrove- Susquehana University Press, USA, p.141-2

How Swamiji predicted his death!: Swami Vivekananda wrote this in a letter to Sister Nivedita in March 1900, as noted by Anshul Chaturvedi, in his blog. In my fraying, massively underlined and marked copy of Letters Of Swami Vivekananda, I’d circled the words “I know the time and place” the very first time I read and pondered over it, over a decade back, and made a small note against it: ‘of death, obviously.’ I could find no other explanation. It was, after all, just over two years after writing that letter that Vivekanda died, on July 4, 1902, preceded by detailed study of the almanac in the preceding days, the specific pointing out of the spot of his cremation three days before his demise, and instructions to brother-disciples on the future of the Ramakrishna Math on the day itself[7]. Earlier in that year, Romain Rolland has noted that Vivekananda began to decline to express his opinion on the questions of the day with the response, “I can no more enter into outside affairs; I am already on the way.” The man who had said “I shall not live to be forty years old” and moved on at 39 was clearly no stranger to his physical end and approached it with a sense of anticipation, if not familiarity[8].

Swami Vivekananda knew about his death- letter to Nivedita

Sex stories floated picked up Kundalini, yoga and so on: Our people do not want read carefully or going into facts by reading at least the “Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda”. According to his disciples, “Vivekananda attained Mahasamadhi; the rupture of a blood vessel in his brain was reported as a possible cause of death. His disciples believed that the rupture was due to his brahmarandhra (an opening in the crown of his head) being pierced when he attained Mahasamadhi”. But, the fact is Swamiji opposed the “Tantric” practices, particularly, involving Vamachara. “This form of practice must never even be mentioned in the Math. Ruin shall seize the wicked man, both here and hereafter, who would introduce vile Vamachara into His fold”- thus, Swami Vivekananda warned the members of Alambazar Math, 27 April 1896. But, now, people without any sense write, he died because he could not control sex, masturbate………………….and so on.

Narasingha Prosad Sil, Swami Vivekananda- on sex, marriage

Swamiji had been very clear about it: Hence the swami makes it clear that left-hand Tantra is absolutely forbidden for the monks of the Ramakrishna mission; indeed, they are explicitly warned not even to speak of such horrible rites, on threat of expulsion from the order[9]: “The Vamachara form of practice . . . should on no account be practised at the Math. Anyone demuring to this must step out of this Order. This form of practice must never even be mentioned in the Math. Ruin shall seize the wicked man, both here and hereafter, who would introduce vile Vamachara into His fold”. Only by purging this demoralizing parasite can India recover its virile, masculine power: “Just look to your own province and see how this Vamachara (immoral practices) of the Tantras has entered into your very marrow. Even modern Vaishnavism . . . is saturated with Vamachara! We must stem the tide of this Vamachara which is contrary to the spirit of the Vedas[10].

Kundalini-Swami Vivekananda

Swamiji pointed out how historically, the practices were degenerated: Swamiji explained, “Give up this filthy Vamachara that is killing your country…. When I  see how much the Vamachara has entered into our society, I find it a most disgraceful place with all its boast of culture. These Vamachara secrets are honeycombing our society in Bengal. . . . The Bengali Shastras are the Vamachara shastras. They are published by the cartload and you poison the minds of your children with them. . . . Fathers of Calcutta, do you not feel ashamed that such horrible stuff as these Vamachara Tantras . . . should be put into the hands of your boys and girls, and their minds poisoned, and that they should be brought up with the idea that these are the Shastras of the Hindus? If you are ashamed, take them away from your children and let them read the true Shastras, the Vedas, the Gita and the Upanishads[11]. The original spirit essentially valid Hindu scriptures that were only later corrupted by degenerate Buddhism and the obscene rites of the left-hand (Vàmàcàra) path: “I denounced only the present corrupted form of Vamachara of the Tantras. I did not denounce the Mother worship of the Tantras. . . . The purport of the Tantras is to worship women in a spirit of Divinity. During the downfall of Buddhism, the Vamachara became very much corrupted, and that corrupted form obtains to the present. . . . I denounced only these corrupt…practices”[12].

Kundalini-Swami Vivekananda warns against Vamachara

Leave Swami Vivekananda: Nowadays, it has become a fashion to pretend that all could be solved, just by talking. Some have started claiming that “Do not take medicine…..You do this, you can be free from all diseases”.  Yet another claim, “I solve all your personal, family ……problems, just by talking”, that is, just listen to what I talk, that is enough! Here, they need not resort to denigrate others for theor promotion. For “sex” control etc., Swami Vivenananda need not be dragged into. Therefore, Indians on any capacity or pretext need not misinterpret Swami Vivekananda, without reading him. One should at least read the “Complete works”, before commenting or talking about Swami Vivekananda. For one’s propagation of name, fame or business, he need not be brought to trivial issues.

Why newly built Hyderabad church attacked – why it was opposed by the local villagers yet built without permission from the Government? (1)

UCAN India report

The Church inagurated on 13-05-2017 was attacked on 21-05-2017 by the local villagers[1]: Two days ago on Sunday [21-05-2017], vandals trashed “Our Lady of Fatima Catholic church” at Godamakunta in Kundapalli, a village in Keesara mandal, Hyderabad (Telangana), thus, the newspapers and internet versions started circulated the news as if the Christians are attacked again and again in India. This “is a great shock” for the local Catholic community. “We are deeply hurt” and “discouraged. We shall rally for peace through prayers,” said Mgr Bernard Swarna, vicar general of the Archdiocese of Hyderabad as he reacted to the act of vandalism[2]. “Our religious sentiments have been deeply offended,” the clergyman noted. “The attackers entered the church and destroyed everything. For us Catholics, it is very painful to see the statue of Our Lady thrown to the ground, the crucified Christ broken, and the altar turned over.” So, the other Christian denominations have chosen to keep quite!

Swarna Bernard Vicar General of St. Joseph College-Hybiz.tv

The Vicar says, “….the vandalising of the church is the work of a “few extremists”, unlike “the majority of Hindus with whom we have good relations[3]: At the same time though, “We received support from Muslims and Hindus who condemned the violence against the church. They expressed their solidarity by participating in an act of prayer.” Mgr Swarna added that the Archdiocese is organising a meeting for next Sunday with the participation of religious leaders and ordinary believers to reiterate that, despite the intolerance of Hindu extremists, “praying is important”. “At first we thought to limit to Catholics, but after receiving so many messages of support, we decided to open it to everyone,” he explained. According to the vicar[4], the vandalising of the church is the work of a “few extremists”, unlike “the majority of Hindus with whom we have good relations”.  So, the Vicar or the Bishop or the media, why did not point out –

  1. Who are the “few extremists”?
  2. How they are different from “the majority of Hindus with whom we have good relations”, as claimed by him?
  3. Does it mean the “few extremists” are different from “the majority of Hindus with whom we have good relations”, as claimed by him?
  4. What exactly, he wanted to convey?
  5. If they are not “Hindus”, who are they?
  6. Are they Christians, Mohammedans??

They have conveniently suppressed the facts without answering.

Herald Malaysian - on church attack

Still, “There is a lot of confusion,” the prelate said, “and people demand respect. We want to rally for peace.”: He [the Vicar] also thanked the local police for their proven support, which “guaranteed us protection”.  Likewise, the authorities have offered “maximum cooperation”, as shown by the arrest yesterday of 22 people involved in the vandalising of the place of worship.” Still, “There is a lot of confusion,” the prelate said, “and people demand respect. We want to rally for peace.” Today the Archdiocese issued a press release in which it describes the attack against the church, which was inaugurated on 13 May 2017 by Archbishop Thumma Bala for the centenary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima.  So, the Vicar again says something mysteriously –

  1. Still, “There is a lot of confusion,” the prelate said, ….why and that is the confusion?
  2. He continued to say, “…..and people demand respect. We want to rally for peace.”
  3. Why the attackers requires respect?
  4. Who are they to be respected?
  5. Why he wants peace with them?
  6. Does he imply that they are Christians?

Hyderabad church attacked- Thumma Bala

This is “a brutal act of violating our fundamental right of freedom to live, practice and worship our faith.”: The communiqué notes that a mob of more than a hundred people broke into the church, threatened the watchman and desecrated the place. “They also attacked Mr. Anantha Reddy, the supervisor of the construction work going on there, who was capturing this act of vandalism on his cellphone” [sic].  This is “a brutal act of violating our fundamental right of freedom to live, practice and worship our faith.” According to the Archdiocese, damages total around 250,000 rupees (US$ 3,850). “Such attacks can happen anywhere,” said Mgr Matthew Cheriankunnel in his homily. “We are not so far from [what is said] in “the Acts of the Apostles. In India, persecution is nigh, and we must expect it to come from all sides at any time. We have to live with this reality.” Fr Rayarala Vijay Kumar, the regional superior of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME) in India[5], believes that violence “does not come from the people, from ordinary people, but has political-religious motives. Unlike other confessions, Hinduism has traditionally always been a tolerant religion,” but “Today, it is becoming more and more extremist.”–Asia News.

  1. This is “a brutal act of violating our fundamental right of freedom to –
    1. live,
    2. practice and
    3. worship our faith.”

Fantastic, yet you do not care for the Acts and Rules prevalent there!

  1. “Such attacks can happen anywhere,” said Mgr Matthew Cheriankunnel in his homily. “We are not so far from [what is said] in “the Acts of the Apostles. – so what he wanted to say?
  2. In India, persecution is nigh, and we must expect it to come from all sides at any time. We have to live with this reality.” Fr Rayarala Vijay Kumar. So with this internal issue, he wants to politicize!
  3. Rayarala Vijay Kumar believes that violence “does not come from the people, from ordinary people, but has political-religious motives. – So from ordinary people violence comes and he can attribute to “extremism”!
  4. Unlike other confessions, Hinduism has traditionally always been a tolerant religion,” but “Today, it is becoming more and more extremist.” – Hinduis is becoming more and more extremist!
  5. Thus, for every thing, they want to blame “Hinduim”!

Fr Rayarala Vijay Kumar, the regional superior of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME) in India

Church constructed without permission – construction started under the pretext of constructing a “function hall”[6]: According to the reports, a church located at Gudmakund village in Kesara Mandal of Medchal districts was attacked and the idols were desecrated. The persons arrested include Sarpanch, Dy. Sarpanch and two Govt. school teachers. ACP of Kushaiguda district, Syed Rafiq told that as soon as police got information, the accused have been arrested. It is mentioned that one Mr. George Reddy was constructing a church on his three acre land for which he had not taken permission from any authority[7]. He started this construction under a pretext of constructing a function hall. After getting this news, villagers including Sarpanch, Dy. Sarpanch and others assembled on Saturday. They reached George Reddy’s farm house and dismantled the under construction building. The arrested persons are Anil Kumar, Sarpanch, M. Rajalinga, Dy. Sarpanch, D. Venkat Reddy, Govt. teacher, C. Yadagiri, Govt. teacher and others. The Hindu reported it in its own way[8], “The irate villagers claimed that the owner of the land had illegally built the church. We have booked them for rioting,” Inspector M. Surender said, adding that they were yet to name people in the case. The inspector also said George Reddy, the owner of the land who had allocated about 1,000 square yards for the church, had applied for permission for constructing a church with the district administration but had not received approval yet.”!  So George Reddy started building consciously without permission without caring for the law of this land.

The way Sathyaraj and Tarun Vijay opposed and made them render apology – The Dravidian racism, linguistic fascism and Ideological negationism work faithfully!

April 22, 2017

The way Sathyaraj and Tarun Vijay opposed and made them render apology –  The Dravidian racism, linguistic fascism and Ideological negationism work faithfully!

Ragavendra swamy exploitation by dravidians

Sathyaraj regrets, whole-heartedly regrets, apologizes or worries about business? : Has Sathyaraj really regretted, whole-heartedly regretted or apologized as the leading Indian media describes differently by various expressions? He has scripted his reply carefully after meticulous preparation. Then, he sat casually before a video and read out such prepared script for circulation as planned. Thus, nothing has come out spontaneously, emotionally and faithfully with any commitment. As media interpret there has not been any social concern, public interest or secular credentials exhibited in such scripted speech. Nine years ago, he did do like that. He poured his dirty words of hatred in all possible derogatory way in front of other leading actors like Rajinikanth, Kamal Hassan etc. From their facial expressions themselves, his unexpected verbose with dirty words was understood and could be realized even today, by anyone who knows Tamil. Therefore, who is arm-twisting whom, can also be understood by the Indian public.  As the cinemawalas claim very often that their profession should be considered as “industry”, then, Indians, as consumers have every right to receive what they want and what they do not want. No political party or organization need to suggest, induce or impose any view on them, as if  they and the media alone, know everything and advise.

C N Annadurai acted as Guru of Shivaji

How commercial considerations work with the media, cine-world and political ideologists to fool fans and consumers: Evidently, the media that has close nexus with the cine-field and the associated business interests tried to play game with the dramatized episode of opposition to and regret expressed by the Periyarist, atheist and radical actor Sathyaraj. “Of course, only Sathyaraj won’t be affected by this threat”, Indian express exposed with candid. Then who would be the affected? The actor said he, “…….does not want a movie made on such a grand scale by the hard work of thousands labourers and technicians to go waste”[1]. So only cine-field workers, technicians and experts are so rare species in India and the idiot fans could go on pay hundreds and thousands to watch the movies. Is this way labour killing labour under the neo-profiteering way of exploiting senses of consumers, as they cannot face losses. Indian know what profit they got by producing pictures on Periyar, Ambedkar and others and producing other “masala” and useless films. Yet, these actors talk about Periyar, Ambedkar at one side and pit them against others, as if they have been so intelligent to decide the future of Indians. With religion, language, race, racism, racialism, linguistic fanaticism and associated degrading factors, they have and have been only dividing Indian society by all means. Incidentally, the day Sathyaraj expressed his regrets, Tarun Vijay faced opposition from the fringe elements of Pondicherry University, in spite of apology rendered!

Tarun Vijay visit to PU opposed 21-04-2017

ASU and SFI members raise slogans against Tarun Vijay for his remarks on south Indians at Pondicherry University; police evict the protesters[2]: Interestingly, when the Dravidian hardcore radical Sathyaraj was regretting his abuse against the Kannadigas, who also happened to be “Dravidians” according his ideology, Tarun Vijay was opposed at Pondicherry University, as he called the South Indians were dark. Tension prevailed in Pondicherry University after students belonging to various unions raised slogans and vehemently registered their protest against the visit of Tarun Vijay, former BJP MP, to deliver a talk organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarti Parishad (ABVP) in the School of Management on the campus. Tarun Vijay arrived at the auditorium and when the function was about to begin, students belonging to Ambedkar Students Union (ASU) and the Students Federation of India (SFI) raised slogans against him for his alleged racist remarks against south Indians recently. A posse of police personnel forcibly removed the protesting students from the auditorium and closed the doors. Tarun Vijay, escorted by the police through another entrance, delivered his talk. Meanwhile, a large number of students from various departments gathered outside the School of Management raising slogans against the university authorities and the police alleging high handedness. At one stage, a section of students took out a procession to the administrative building and laid siege to the office of the Vice-Chancellor (officiating) Anisa Basheer Khan. Ms. Khan held talks with a section of student representatives following which the protest was withdrawn[3].  As puducherry, Union Territory has been within Tamilnadu, the issue went unnoticed, though, the issue is inter-related.

C N Annaduai, Karu, MGR, EVR all acting

Why the Dravidians could not live together or getting long unitely, ever since they identified by themselves as “Dravidians”?: If all the south Indians are dark or black, how Sathyaraj could look fair enough to act in movies, that too with fair heroines attracting fans!  No producer, director or hero introduced any heroine from Africa, as they are also Dravidians. He talks racism and all in the name of Periyarism etc., how then his skin colour has been fair? Similarly, the people of other states, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhrapradesh do not take the hypothesis of Caldwell or the Dravidian parties that they are also Dravidians like that of people of Tamilnadu. During the times of Justice Party itself, the non-Tamil people started moving away from the Tamils because of their linguistic fanaticism and racial parochialism. When EVR started dominating the party affairs, many disassociated and left the party, because of his authoritarian attitude, intolerant posture and adamant standpoint. Then, the Dravidar Kazhgm was started, but had to work within Tamilnadu with the fringe and radical elements.  Again, within that party also, all was not going on well and therefore, Anna broke away from Periyar and started DMK.  MGR could not be with Karunanidhi because of his corruption. Thus, AIADMK was started by him. Now, both the parties DMK and AIADMK have been in doldrums. This has been the exclusive, separatist and intolerant attitude of the Dravidian politicians and their ideology. Calling themselves “Dravidians” of the same race, why they could not get long within themselves or adjusting with each other is not known.

Ragavendra swamy exploitation by dravidians-mutt attacked at Erode

Can Dravidian actors go on abuse others and get away with their rhetoric?: Even today (after this incidence), for earning money, the Tamil actors have been ready to act in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada language movies. Calling themselves as “Pacca Tamilians”, they act in Hindi movies also delivering Hindi dialogue. We have to note how others follow their ideology strictly in this regard. Already, there has been an exception, Raghava Lawrence has been portraying themselves as a staunch devotee of “Raghavendra”, who belongs to Karnataka, as asserted by Sathyaraj. Of course, these actors have been very poor in history and hence they get away with what they talk in Tamil to appease the crowd and get claps. Ironically, Sri Raghavendra was born and brought up in Tamilnadu and lived in Kumbakonam as Peetathipati. Yet, as the Dravidian protagonists have not been interested in history, but mythistory like “Aryans”, “Dravidians” etc., they always talk the same stuff to rouse passion and now also Sathyaraj asserts that he supports for Sri Lanka cause and die as Tamilian! As pointed out above, as these actors and politicians have been earning crores of money from the poor and middle-class people / Indians of South India, the people have to question their duplicity, expose their double standards and even boycott their films, if they continue to spread lies in this way based on myth, mythistory, race, racism, racialism, linguistic fanaticism and so on.

Sathyaraj regrets, whole-heartedly regrets, apologizes or worries about business? The media mode of dramatization of reporting of Dravidian racism, linguistic fascism and Ideological negationism!

April 22, 2017

Sathyaraj regrets, whole-heartedly regrets, apologizes or worries about business? The media mode of dramatization of reporting of Dravidian racism, linguistic fascism and Ideological negationism!

Sathyaraj apologizes - Tamil

Of course, only Sathyaraj won’t be affected by this threat” – Indian Express support for Sathyaraj[1]: Indian Express has exposed the financial implication of the drama of opposition to Satyaraj by the Kannadiga groups. It carried a report as follows: “That a lot of expectations and money are riding on S S Rajamouli’s 200 crore sequel “Baahubali the Conclusion”, due for release on April 28, 2017 is well known. It was therefore quite convenient for the pro-Kannada groups like Karnataka Rakshana Vedike to seek some gloating satisfaction by threatening to prevent the Karnataka release of Baahubali the Conclusion, in order to force an apology out of Tamil actor Sathyaraj for his nine-year-old controversial remarks on the Cauvery issue. It is at the stage of theatrical distribution, that a movie’s whole fate and business depends. Speaking to a news channel, director SS Rajamouli said that pro-Kannadiga groups targeting Baahubali 2 because of Sathyaraj was “not right.” “[We] learned that whatever comments Mr Sathyaraj made it was nine years back. And after that, about 30 films of his were released in Karnataka. Baahubali 1 released. No one had problems with that. And suddenly, raking up the issue at this point in time … ,” said Rajamouli. Of course, only Sathyaraj won’t be affected by this threat. But that is exactly the leverage for blackmail — when the stake against the risk is just too great and involves a whole crew of unrelated people, it is easy to browbeat somebody into senseless demands to selfish, parochial ends. The KRV has done this before in 2008, to get an “apology” from superstar Rajnikanth for his statements on the Hogenakkal project dispute, prior to the release of his movie Kuselan. In the country that is wild about movies, blockbuster movies like Baahubali make for cultural phenomena generating a lot of buzz, influence and capital”.

Sathyaraj apologizes - Kannda

“Arm-twisting of celebrities by fring elements” as observed by Indian Express[2]: After the financial implication, Indian Express has gone to the arm-twisting of the celebrities, as if Sathyaraj has not been of fringe element category, not speaking with decency and decorum and so on. It went on to report, “Over and over these days, this has been making movies and its makers easy targets for arm-twisting by fringe groups that know only too well that they possess the brazen muscle power of the mob to disrupt any hopes of soft power. They have the willing “activists” to attack where movies are vulnerable — at the sore point of revenue. This is exactly what also transpired in the case of Karan Johar’s dark apology video to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, pleading them to spare his “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” and in Shah Rukh Khan’s reassurance meeting with Raj Thackeray to ensure a smooth landing for “Raees”. It seems that as long as the law and order would not come to the active rescue of the filmmakers, any organisation with brawn and some political clout will feel brave for seeking such self-aggrandising settlements through soft coercion.” So the fans, general public and Indian consumers as a whole have to analyze the facts involved in such reportings.

Sathyaraj apologizes - Telugu

Sathyaraj regret – PTI version carried on by one media: Actor Sathyaraj has finally opened up on the controversy over the release of “Bahubali: The Conclusion”, in Karnataka. Pro-Kannada groups have called for a boycott of the film in the state alleging that the actor had hurt their sentiments in a speech made nine years ago. Despite the film’s team maintaining that he was only a supporting actor, the groups refused to budge from their stand[3]. Subsequently, in a video sent to the press on 21-04-2017 (Friday), the actor said[4], “Nine years ago, Tamilians were attacked in Karnataka over the Cauvery water dispute. There were protests demanding that the screening of Tamil films be stopped in that state. To condemn such calls, the Tamil film fraternity had organised a meeting, and many had expressed their anger. I was one among them… I understand that some of the words that I had uttered then have hurt the sentiments of the Kannadigas… In the past nine years, 30 films of mine, including Bahubali: The Beginning, were released in the state. There were no problems. I was even approached to act in Kannada films, but I couldn’t take them up because of other commitments.”

Sathyaraj apologizes - as-Kannadigas thrratened

Sathyaraj whole-heartedly regret – PTI version carried on by other media: “I sincerely express my regret for the remarks made by me during Cauvery protest nine years ago”, he said in a video message[5]. Asserting that he was not against Kannadigas or Karnataka, Sathyaraj claimed that his assistant Shekar, who is a Kannadiaga, is with him for the last 30 years. “In fact I had been invited to act in Kannada films, but I could not do so due to paucity of time”, he added[6]. Appealing for the smooth release of Bahubali-2, the actor said he do not want a movie made on such a grand scale by the hard work of thousands labourers and technicians to go waste[7]. I am a small actor in a mega film called Baahubali. I dont want the efforts of many people to go to waste. Not just that, I have the added responsibility of ensuring exhibitors in Karnataka, who have bought (screening rights of) Baahubali 2, are not affected,” he said in what he termed as an “explanation” to Tamil people and activists[8]. He said adding that in future if producers sense that because of me they might suffer losses, they need not approach him for signing films[9]. An atheist, known for his pro-Tamil views, Sathyaraj insisted that he will continue to voice support for matters concerning Tamils including the Cauvery dispute and the Eelam issue in Sri Lanka[10]. The actor, sporting a black T-shirt synonymous with the states Progressive movement led by rationalist leader, late E V Ramasamy Periyar, said he was not against Kannada people[11]. In a message to producers and filmmakers, he said those who fear “problems” in the future by casting him in their films may not do so and avoid “facing losses.”…… “Because I take more pride in living and dying as a Tamil without any superstition than living and dying as an actor,” he added[12]. He also extended his thanks to director Rajamouli, the films producers, various professional bodies of Tamil cinema including an artistes association and his well-wishers “for tolerating the difficulties caused by me.”

Sathyaraj apologizes - as-Kannadigas thrratened- want to be a Tamilian than actor

What the unrelenting Sathyaraj and the media want to convey to Indians: From the above, the secular Indians could understand the following points very clearly:

  1. That a lot of expectations and money are riding on S S Rajamouli’s 200 crore sequel“Baahubali the Conclusion”, due for release on April 28, 2017 is well known.
  2. It is at the stage of theatrical distribution, that a movie’s whole fate and business depends.
  3. Of course, only Sathyaraj won’t be affected by this threat.
  4. The KRV has done this before in 2008, to get an “apology” from superstar Rajnikanth for his statements on the Hogenakkal project dispute, prior to the release of his movie Kuselan.
  5. In the country that is wild about movies, blockbuster movies like Baahubali make for cultural phenomena generating a lot of buzz, influence and capital.
  6. Over and over these days, this has been making movies and its makers easy targets for arm-twisting by fringe groups that know only too well that they possess the brazen muscle power of the mob to disrupt any hopes of soft power.
  7. They have the willing “activists” to attack where movies are vulnerable — at the sore point of revenue.
  8. It seems that as long as the law and order would not come to the active rescue of the filmmakers, any organisation with brawn and some political clout will feel brave for seeking such self-aggrandising settlements through soft coercion.
  9. Sathyaraj does not want a movie made on such a grand scale by the hard work of thousands labourers and technicians to go waste.
  10. An atheist, known for his pro-Tamil views, Sathyaraj insisted that he will continue to voice support for matters concerning Tamils including the Cauvery dispute and the Eelam issue in Sri Lanka.
  11. The actor, sporting a black T-shirt synonymous with the states Progressive movement led by rationalist leader, late E V Ramasamy Periyar, said he was not against Kannada people.
  12. In a message to producers and filmmakers, he said those who fear “problems” in the future by casting him in their films may not do so and avoid “facing losses.”……
  13. Sathyaraj asserted that, “…..Because I take more pride in living and dying as a Tamil without any superstition than living and dying as an actor”.

Malda IHC conference, communal fire and blaspheme riots – were they incidental, coincidental or ancillary (2)?

January 14, 2016

Malda IHC conference, communal fire and blaspheme riots – were they incidental, coincidental or ancillary (2)?

Eminent historians, IHC, resoltion mughal tombs to be protected

Unblushing, spineless and biased historians stroking the fire of communalism (30-12-2015): Eminent historians like Irfan Habib, Aditya Mukherjee, Shireen Mousvi, and BP Sahu Indu Banga were present at the 76th nsession, when the resolutions were passed. The resolution recalled that the IHC had said since 1984 that the Babri Masjid was “entitled to protection both as a medieval monument built in 1528 and as an example of Sharqi architecture.” …..“However, it was allowed to be destroyed in 1992 — an act which provoked national condemnation,” the resolution said. “That destruction was planned to enable the ground to be cleared to build a modern temple.” When UPA was in power, they did not worry about the stones coming to Ayodhya, as the work has been going on for many years. Virtually, it is a small factory, where all the tourists can go inside and see the processes carried on without any restriction. About recent happenings of other things (in the name of tolerance etc.,), these historians were keeping quiet, why then suddenly in Malda, they started to give political discourse about the Babri Masjid? How can they forget that they have been condemned by the Allahabad High Court for misleading the Court?

Harbans Mukhia, Suvira Jaiswal, Indu Banga, Rajan Gurukkal, Romila, Shereen Ratnagar

The way the eminent historians deal court cases: Though Romila Thapar roared that they would file an appeal, she kept quiet and disappeared, perhaps, to save her honour. Whenever, Rama comes in the news, she used to come and say something against and disappear. But, she never goes to court, as she threatens. Irfan Habib chose to reply in his own way[1], but, none cared for. Thus, the recent war of words between eminent professional historians and Sangh Parivar outfits reached a new high on Tuesday (30-12-2015), with the Indian History Congress (IHC) passing a resolution against the arrival of engraved stones in Ayodhya, for a future Ram temple at the site where the Babri Masjid once stood[2]. In fact, there was no discussion and the resolutions were passed just like that[3]. On December 23, 2015, The Hindu cleverly carried an editorial to bat for the “eminent” historians, who have been the witnesses for the Muslims in the Babri case in the courts[4]. Not only that they were exposed by the High Court during the cross examination[5], about their spreading lies, planting biased articles in newspapers and deposing without visiting Ayodhya!

Gyanendra Pandey, Suraj Bhan, Indu Banga, D N Jha, K M Srimali, Satish Chandra

The eminent historians as witnesses of Muslims in the Babri Masjid case[6]: It is not known how they agreed to lend their names or ready to be witnesses in the Babari case to support Muslim cause. The eminent historians, historical experts and leftist manufacturers never bother about their secular credentials.  It is not known as to why these coteries should always support for the Masjid or Muslim cause. But, as the Muslim groups have been dominating the IHC sessions and sponsorship provided, they were obliged to act as witnesses. Ironically, the following have been the witnesses of the case in question:

Sl.No Witness no Name of the witness
1 Witness No. 63 R.S. Sharma
2 Witness No. 64 Suraj Bhan
3 Witness No. 65 D.N. Jha[7]
4 Witness No. 66 Romila Thapar
5 Witness No. 70 Irfan Habib
6 Witness No. 72 B.N. Pandey
7 Witness No. 95 K.M. Shrimali
8 Witness No. 99 Satish Chandra
9 Witness No. 102 Gyanendra Pandey

Unfortunately, in the 2012 Allahabad court judgment, when were exposed, they got wild. So they started criticizing the judgment to save their faces. Then, where is their loci standi in criticising the judgment and Court? As witnesses, definitely, they could have deposed before the judges presenting their “historical facts” as they only know how to interpret! The public perhaps, even today do not know that in secular India, these historians stood witnesses to the Muslims! Why none has appeared for Hindus or temple cause? When the cold-blooded terrorist and heinous killer like Kasab is given legal aid, why none appeared for the non-Muslim and non-mosque group? Where is secularism? Would they come out in the public what they told to the judges in the Court? However, the poor show showed in the court by them raises many questions.

Eminent historians, Arun Shourie

How eminent historians made their elite historians to lie before the Court: Let us see, what these eminent historians deposed before the court and offered their expertise during the cross-examination:

  1. Supriya Verma an, “expert” who challenged the excavations done by the ASI, had not read the radar survey report on ground penetration that led to the court order for excavation.
  2. Verma and Jaya Menon, another “expert,” were not present at the time of actual excavations but alleged that pillar bases at the excavated sites were planted.
  3. Suvira Jaiswal says: “Whatever knowledge I gained with respect to the disputed site is based on newspaper reports or what others told.”
  4. She also confessed that she “prepared a report on the Babri dispute after reading newspaper reports and on the basis of discussion with my medieval history expert in my department”.
  5. Jaiswal made an important clarification: “I am not giving (my) statement on oath regarding Babri Mosque without any probe and not on the basis of my knowledge; rather I am giving the statement on the basis of my opinion.”
  6. When opinion can be history why are they all screaming that “faith” cannot be an equally relevant criterion?
  7. Archaeologist Shereen Ratnagar admitted she did not have any “field” experience as far as Babri was concerned and had written an “introduction” to the book of another “expert” who deposed before the court, namely Prof D Mandal.
  8. Suraj Bhan was providing evidence based on medieval history but another expert of Muslim parties, namely Shireen Musavi, says that Bhan is an archaeologists and not a historian.

Is this the way that they should have confessed? Why then pretend as the expert of experts, scholar of scholars etc?

Allahabad High Court judment, eminent historians

“The Communist Party issues a red card, and I am its holder. It is true that I have no faith in religion.”:

  1. Prof Mandal retired from the Department of Ancient History and Archaeology, Allahabad University. He was appointed on an ad hoc basis as Lecturer in 1972 but prior to that he claimed to have worked as exploration assistant since 1960.
  2. Initially he appeared as an expert to depose that there was no archaeological evidence to show either the existence of any temple at the disputed site or that a temple was demolished before construction of the disputed structure.
  3. The statements made by him in cross-examination show the shallowness of his knowledge and provide a sample about all these “eminences”. A few of his quotes:
    1. “I never visited Ayodhya”.
    2. “I do not have any specific knowledge of the history of Babur’s reign.”
    3. “Whatsoever little knowledge I have about Babur is only that Babur was the ruler of the 16th century.
    4. Except for this I do not have any knowledge of Babur.
    5. I do not have knowledge of anything in 2nd Para of the editorial preface to my book (exhibit 63) in which Romila Thapar has written that Vishwa Hindu Parishad, BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, for the first time, raised the issue of the Babri Masjid being located on the place which was earlier Rama’s birth place.
    6. I also do not know whether or not it is correctly written on page 10 of the aforesaid preface that Ayodhya is a site of pilgrimage for adherents of Ramanand school.”
    7. “The Communist Party issues a red card, and I am its holder. It is true that I have no faith in religion.”

So when they were torn into pieces exposing their expertise, professionalism, peer-group review and appreciation etc., how they still hold their heads high and gather courage to pass such resolutions?

  • Can Romila Thapar forget this?
  • Can Supriya Verma, Jaya Menon, Suvira Jaiswal, Shereen Ratnagar, Mandal etc., deny their role in spreading falsehood?
  • Then, what position, they have to pass resolutions at IHC in this cowardly fashion, instead of going to court?

The 10th National Conference of ABISY was held at Mysore from December 24th to 26th 2015 on “Women in Indian culture: From ancient to Modern” (3)

December 29, 2015

The 10th National Conference of ABISY was held at Mysore from December 24th to 26th 2015 on “Women in Indian culture: From ancient to Modern” (3).

RSS briefed about the conference earlier - Indian Express, Aug 17, 2015

ABISY, RSS and women: In August itself, the RSS briefed about the conference[1] as could be noted from the Indian express. From December 24 to 26, Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana (ABISY) will hold a three-day conference in Mysore, where around 1,000 delegates will discuss “Women in Indian culture: through the ages”. “We will discuss their strength and their importance in various phases of Indian history. Women in Rig Vedic times enjoyed a high status in society but due to several reasons their status began to decline,” said Balmukund, an RSS pracharak working with ABISY. Sources say an RSS meeting in Nainital discussed the gender ratio in RSS affiliates (see chart). “Representation of women is gradually increasing in our organisations. At the Ahmedabad conclave, we will discuss several aspects of women empowerment and their role in our organisations,” said Mahila Samanway chief Geeta Tayi Gunde, who coordinates among the affiliates on women’s issues. Though RSS shakhas don’t allow women, a separate organisation called Rashtra Sevika Samiti holds women’s shakhas on the lines of RSS shakhas[2]. But, RSS has been having dialogue with Christians and Muslims. However, they are not able to counter negative reorting of media, whenever, it is mentioned that they are against so-and-so and so on[3].

Aggressive left historiansThe aggressive domination of the Leftist and Muslim historians: The excessive, extreme and unnecessary domination of the leftists and Muslim groups over the proceedings of IHC has been resented, questioned and examined by neutral historians, archaeologists and other connected experts many times. The way they have been projecting the medieval and modern periods and suppressing the ancient period and also the interpretation of national, social, religious and political issues, problems and controversies in a biased manner much against the interests of common Indians[4]. The IHC coetrie have been authoritatively imposing such one-sided view for the last 60 years, as could be noted not only from the yearly proceedings volumes, but also their interviews, views and comments registered in the media on various occassions. Ironically the charges of so-called elite, eminent and emeritus hisorians have been proved baseless even at the level of Supreme Court, when their own engaged experts filed petitions alleging the saaffronization of educational curriculum, academic and social institutions, the Hon’ble Court ruled out dismissing them. Romila Thapar agitated and openly questioned the judgment dubbing as “Hindutwa judgment” and declared that they would be appealing against the judgment, but noting happened. So in a democaratic country, all views have to be accommodated, naturally, the so-called rightist, nationalist and hindutwa views also be provided space equally. As the dominant leftist and Muslim coetrie does not relish this, the ideological struggle has now been turned into political one and for which they are responsible. This was revealed even during the IHC-2014 jeld at JNU taking the issue of “glorification of Nehruvian era”[5].

marxist-historian-work-together-ideologicallyABISY, RSS and IHC: RSS and IHC were having ideological struggle over Indin history, historiography and methodoloy for the last three decades. While the IHC dominant groups have been moving ahead with the current topics, recent issues and contemporary problems, the rightist, nationalist and patriotic counterparts have not even realized their exisence. Most of them have been almost The IHC ideological bandwagon and aggressive coetrie many times do not recongize peer group experts, only because of the reason that they might be against their ideology. Thus, many prominent, professional and secialized historians, archaeologists, epigraphists, numismaticians and others were / are never invited or allowed to attend the conference by their own “rogue mannerism” but showing off as “expertized professionalism”.  Though RSS has been trying to counter them through ABISY and BISS, their heads, zonal heads and members have been –

  1. Not matching with the professionalism of the leftist and Muslim ideologists.
  2. The vigour started in 1980s died down with changed persons heading[6].
  3. Instead of “offensive”, “defensive” position is taken in the match, however, there have been some individual fighters, but they are ignored by the rightists.
  4. In spite of the judicial victory[7], they could not continue the academic struggle with proficiency, professionalism and practice[8].
  5. inexperienced in preseting papers, if at all, they come forward to present.
  6. read and understand Indian history any perspective.
  7. Ameteurish, unprofessional and incompetent in dealing with their ideological opponents.
  8. Dormant because of excessive patriotism and refused to look at other ideologists in right perspective.
  9. Ignore, sideline and even disregard the exerienced who come to join, work with and get along the ABISY and BISS.
  10. Active only when BJP or NDA is in power and latent during other periods.

Unless, the rightists do not revaluate, reassess and reorganize themselves, they cannot win the battle.

Nehruvian era, IHC, ICHR and RSS (2014): Even as Madan Mohan Malaviya and Shyamaprasad Mookerjee continue to make news headlines, Jawaharlal Nehru dominated a day in New Delhi where historians praised his role, at an event that was sponsored among others by the state governments of Kerala, Karnataka and Assam, all Congress-led administrations. The three-day long Platinum Jubilee edition of the Indian History Congress (IHC), which concluded in JNU last year, also counts the Union government bodies ICHR andUGC among its main sponsors. The IHC Association, which organizes the meet, had set a broad direction for the annual event with the theme ‘Humanism, Tolerance and Reason: Defining the Contours of History’. But two panels under the auspices of the left-leaning JNU and Aligarh Historians’ Society (AHS) expressly focused on discussions and paper presentations concerning the Nehruvian Era and its current relevance, and the past and present forms of inequality in India, respectively[9]. But Dr Rakesh Batabyal, Local Secretary of the IHC, said there was nothing much political to read into the event. “We had written to all state governments for sponsorship and received from these three. Also, the HRD Ministry through UGC and ICHR has also sponsored the event, so there is nothing political about it,” he said. Batabyal pointed out that ICHR head Y. Sudharshan Rao – an appointee of the BJP-led Central government[10] – had also been invited and he attended the event. “The reason for focusing on Nehru was on account of the commemoration of the ex-PM’s Golden death anniversary. Also, we have voices from the economic right to left, it was an open field, he added. He also conceded, though, that finding historians from cultural right was difficult, and thus no presence could be seen,” he said. On its part, the RSS-affiliated history research organization was not too impressed with the event. “We used to go for the event in the past, but now none of our office bearers goes. The IHCA is a communist-leaning organization,” Mukul Pandey (sic), General Secretary of the ABISY, told ET[11].

[3] The ABISY is working on several projects to rewrite history. Last year the outfit organised a function at National Museum to pay homage to the “last Hindu emperor of Delhi Hemu Vikramaditya”. From December 24 to 26, ABISY will hold a three-day conference in Mysore, where around 1,000 delegates will discuss “Women in Indian Culture: Through the Ages.” – See more at: http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/tatya-tope-rss-linked-outfit-backs-descendants-theory-on-his-death/#sthash.KZjgannq.dpuf

[4] The Proceeding volumes sprak the truth and the papers chosen to include expose their bias, prejudice and hatred against others. Many times, very good researched papers, eventhough recommended by the sectional presidents after much appreciated discussion, were not included brcause of such professional, ideological and regional bias.

[6] During the New Delhi session, many of the faithfuls simply sent the life membership money with the note, “As per the directions of Mananiya Moropant Pingely, I hereby send the fees”. Alerted and bewildered by them, the ruling IHC bandwagon simply rejected their membership. However, both had been proved wrong, as the Delhi High Court decided differently, when they went to court.

[7] The so-called “Hindutwa” judgment consequent to the NCERT issue and coupled with “saffronization of academic curriculum”, the rightwing ideologists did not pursue the issue professionally.

[8] Note below what Balamkund says about it! . On its part, the RSS-affiliated history research organization was not too impressed with the event. “We used to go for the event in the past, but now none of our office bearers goes. The IHCA is a communist-leaning organization,” Mukul Pandey (sic), General Secretary of the ABISY, told ET.

[9] IHC dominat ideologists manipulate the session by bringing some unassuming paper presenters to force their views on others. This they have been doing in the case of RJM controversy also, making one fellow to present a paper “Ayodhya was in Afganistan”!

[10] This way of reporting has also been biased, because during the non-BJP regimes, the members were only the “appointees” of Communist, Muslim and Congress parties. In fact, the media should be balanced enough to address the issues properly without any pre-conceived notions.
