The 80th session of Indian History Congress held at Kannur University – IHC has become congress of Rowdy historians! [6]

Marxist women historians, 1

Women who run riot talked about women: The two-day session on ‘Women in India: Reconstructing women’s history’, organised by The Aligarh Historians’ Society, as part of the Indian History Congress (IHC), once again brought to the fore the contentious issue of women’s entry in Sabarimala, as also the issues of gender equality and exploitation of women[1]. Parvathi Menon, who presented the paper on ‘Sabarimala and Women’, said that though women used to enter Sabarimala in the past, and the attitudes towards menstruating women entering the temples were flexible as late as the 1980s, it was still a taboo[2]. The taboo against fertile women entering the Sabarimala precincts was given legal sanction as late as 1991 through a Kerala high court judgment, she pointed out. After the apex court verdict in 2018, permitting women’s entry, the controversy took political tones and a group took the battle to the streets. “The arguments being advanced by defenders of the ban on childbearing age women entering the temples, that Ayyappan is a celibate god, are of recent origin in the centuries-long development of Ayyappa worship, and reflect the mainstreaming of the worship into the Vedic period,” she said.

The Marxist interpretation of women-only encourage Islamic fundamentalism: Without changing mindsets, especially in respect of the new and shackling obscurantisms in the form of personal laws and superstitious beliefs, the gain that Kerala has achieved in great measure through public action towards women’s equality will be eroded, she added, underscoring the contradictions in the Kerala society and the denial of self-reliance for women in the man-woman relationship or in the family. Shalini Shah, in her paper, ‘Engendering female body, sexuality and desire in the Sanskritic tradition’, also discussed the issue of Sabarimala, in the context of female sexuality. “In the masculinist world, ‘sexual desire’ is a male prerogative. Women can be the object of desire, but not a desiring subject themselves,” she pointed out, adding, “We thus see that only a specific kind of woman was objectified in the masculinist discourse as sexually alluring. So, from an entirely male point of view, it is safe for the women of a specific age to enter the precincts of a Brahmachari deity.” Charu Gupta, in her paper, said feminist historians have underlined that both social reforms and nationalism have had an ambiguous relationship with the gender question. The presentations that lasted for two days had 18 papers that explored various aspects of women’s identity, based on myths, legends and social reality across the world. However, they could not discuss anything on Muslim women Triple Talaq Act, progress of them and other minority women.

A Mohammedan minister came to speak for Mohammedans: Minister for higher education K T Jaleel has said no government has ever succeeded in detaining or degrading the minorities[3]. Addressing a special session on the concluding day of the Indian History Congress (IHC) here on Monday 30-12-2019, he said the history shows that the minorities contributed immensely in the progress of the respective nations and society[4]. “French historians noted that France began to decline after the banishment of minorities from their country. If Jews had not been displaced or murdered massively by Hitler, Germany would have become a super economic power of the world,” he said. “The recent CAA, NPR and NRC are imposed hurriedly as part of the political agenda,” he said, adding that historians have to protest and condemn moves against a minority community. However, he did not make any whisper as to how the illegal migrants of Myanmar, Bangladesh etc., have been affecting the Kerala society, polity and economy. He could not discuss about the ISIS problem that is encouraged by the infiltrators from Pakistan, Afganistan etc. In other words, the IHC historians have been colluding with the politicians in this way, to spoil the academic proceedings. Thus, it is evident that the IHC gang and the communists of Kerala have decided to host IHC at Kannur and exploit it, but, the ugly events exposed their hidden agenda bringing bad name to them.

Resolutions passed as usual and none bothers: IHC concluded and deplored the detention of four delegates following the commotion at the inaugural ceremony on December 28 and called for the defence of the composite culture of the country[5]. The resolution passed in this connection also requested the state government not to share the details of the detained people to any central or other agencies[6]. “Confident that the Kerala state government is vigilant in fulfilling its promise of protecting the civil liberty of all citizens, the Indian History Congress hopes that the state government will (a) duly train the police personnel in managing security, and (b) ensure that the personal details of the individuals detained are not communicated to any central or other agencies,” it said. Many resolutions at the IHC were in connections with the present political turbulence over CAA, Jammu and Kashmir and related issues. The IHC without knowing the legality and their local standi, they go on pass such resolutions for the last 35 years, but, none bother and bothered about it. When B. R. Grover was alive, he was the only person to point out their vanity, futility and useless nature of resolutions. As IHC has been losing credibility year by year and now proven to be a den of rowdies, the coming years might witness strength coming down. Moreover, their arrangements of transport, accommodation and food have also been coming down, while the delegate fees increasing. Thus, the delegates were also not satisfied in all aspects.

Urban naxal elite gang-2

The agenda of opposing ruling government exposed: Expressing concern over the adverse conditions for research and educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir, owing to the official closure of internet and libraries, and non-functioning of educational institutions since August, the IHC, in another resolution, called upon the authorities to lift restrictions on internet and take measures to restore normalcy in J&K. It also condemned the police action in some universities following protests against CAA. The resolution said it is conscious of the adverse effects such violent acts will have on academic freedom and pursuit of research and instruction. “Political figures should refrain from inaccurate statements as the one about India having been under ‘foreign rule for one thousand years’ as if all Muslim rulers were foreigners,” read another resolution. Disagreement with the National Education Policy, another resolution said the move to infuse ‘heavy dose of Sanskrit’ at all levels of education including science and technology, social science and Indian system of knowledge… will make education not only static but unequal and unjust for many. In another resolution on ‘built heritage,’ it said the Indian heritage is still in danger, and there were efforts to alter the authenticity of monuments that have affected their historicity. IHC president Amiya Kumar Bagchi, secretary Mahalakshmi Ramakrishnan and treasurer Burton Cleetus denied any protocol violation on their part at the inaugural ceremony.

Kannur university hosted IHC, office barriers

Questions raised and posed to historians, history students and related persons: Having seen the behaviour of the historians, the general public may raise many questions:

  1. The IHC historians have been reportedly highly educated, elite, emeritus and so on, why then, they behaved in this way?
  2. Why the well-learned professors, HODs, and others raised hands, turned their faces ugly, shouted badly and virtually run riot before others?
  3. Definitely, they must have known what is decency and decorum to be maintained in such functions. They have invited Governors, Chief Ministers, Prime Ministers etc., and therefore, treating the same class differently raises the credibility, accountability and responsibility.
  4. What the youngsters, young students and others would think about these historians and others? Or they giving field-training in this way to become rowdy-historians in coming years.
  5. Would they want to nurture, teach and bring up good students or rowdies, raising slogans, disrespecting the authorities, fighting with the police and so on?
  6. The “two women delegates” were actually, verifying the genuine nature of the members and giving clearance. However, on 27th, they were virtually harassing the delegates because of their technical fault [they are not getting the connection or some issue]. How then, these two could run riot?
  7. Or, were the organizers planned to use these women as a front to create a problem and get undue publicity?
  8. Had all involved been really interested in history, research and related areas, they would not have indulged in such “unhistorical,” un-academic and unruly activities. Yet they did – proved that they had bad intentions.
  9. Historians have not done their duty for the last 70 years and therefore, they cannot do anything with the Acts and laws of the land. Therefore, it is better they concentrate in history and save their honour instead of poking nose in politics etc. Would they learn a lesson or do otherwise?

The 80th session of Indian History Congress held at Kannur University – IHC has become congress of Rowdy historians! [5]

A K Balan, Arif and Habib

Law Minister A K Balan tried to play down the turn of events: The governor on Sunday 29-12-2019, said historian Irfan Habib had tried to manhandle his aide-de-camp and added the protesters were not ready to hear him when he started responding to their position[1]. Speaking to a news channel later, the governor reiterated that protocol was violated during the event. “Governor’s programme duration shouldn’t be more than one hour. The organisers violated the schedule. The names of two speakers, including Habib, were not there on the initial programme list. But I sat there for one-and-a-half hours listening to speeches,” he said[2]. Earlier in the day, Khan summoned Chief Secretary Tom Jose to Raj Bhavan over the Kannur incident. Sources said the governor expressed his unhappiness over the ‘protocol violation’ and sought a reply. Law Minister A K Balan tried to play down the turn of events by saying the chief secretary met Khan to apprise him of the details of the Cabinet decisions. As a law minister, obviously, he realized the consequences, whereas, the senile Habib could not do that. Kannur University vice-chancellor said earlier in the day that there was a violation of the protocol and Habib’s speech was not included in the programme schedule. It shows that the hosting VC knew what was happening or what Habib would do on the stage. Therefore, the involvement and collusion of VC with Habib could be noted. In any case, much damage has been done to IHC that could be repaired with much difficulty in the coming years.

Marxist historians, India

IHC has become a den of Marxist historians: Established in 1935, and have 2530 life members, 33,000 annual members. The IHC enjoys ‘monopoly’ over the historical narrative of the country, and almost all the history books promoted by the central government (NCERT, recommended in Central Universities syllabus), state governments, are written by the members of IHC.  Habib is a son of Mohammed Habib, a Marxist historian from Aligarh Muslim University, and grandson of Mohammed Naseem, a wealthy barrister and a member of Congress party. He was a professor of History at AMU and later appointed as Professor Emeritus after retirement. The “eminent” members IHC are the usual suspects, who presented or fabricated the evidence contrary to the historical Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, on which Babri Masjid was constructed. Romila Thapar, D N Jha, Bipin, Chandra, Satish Chandra, R S Sharma, Mridula Mukherjee, Nurul Hasan, Sumit Sarkar, Athar Ali and many others enjoyed a monopoly over the official narrative of history. Post the Supreme Court’s Ayodhya verdict that came in favour of the temple, these leftist historians stood exposed. And the more interesting fact is, almost all of them are self-described Marxists and belong to ‘Marxist school of historiography’. In historiography, this type of stereotypes, monopoly, and forceful thrust of ideology do not work in the long run. Definitely, people have started questioning their ideology, as in practice, it does not work. Therefore, any ideology that does not solve the basics of common people, would be thrown away automatically.

Marxist historians, India-2

Marxist-Mohammedan medieval historiography forced and imposed by JNU-DU-AMU gang: Almost all the office bearers, regional members, sectional presidents, and E. C. are “Marxists”. A person does not enjoy ’eminence’ until and unless s/he is a member of IHC, and this body has a monopoly of Marxists[3]. The topmost professional body of Historians is dominated by the people from one school of thought; one could not find a single member from any other non-Marxist school in this body[4]. The members of IHC also dominated the government history research bodies like- Indian Council of Historical Research, an institution under Ministry of HRD. Habib was chairman of ICHR from 1986 – 1993, and he employed his colleagues from IHC at ICHR too. After the Modi government came to power, it tried to end the monopoly of Marxist and Nehruvian historians, by placing historians from diverse schools of thought. The monopolized, autocratic and dominated attitude and behaviour only led to the creation of local history congresses in each state. However, by blaming BJP, RSS or any right-wingers, these leftists, Marxist, Mohammedans and other divisive gangs cannot do anything good to the country. That is why people have lost interest in history and historians. Many universities removed history subject/courses from the curriculum, as it could not fetch any job in the current scenario.

Marxist historians, India-3

Definitely, the unruly acts of historians were planned: As an observer, I can register the facts that the learned Habib had lied, on many accounts. All delegates were thoroughly frisked, checked and allowed inside. Therefore, if some of “delegates” or “historians” entered with placards, then, he was responsible for such act as the president. That means, they entered evidently with the good books of Irfan Habib or under his clout. The Kerala MP K. K. Ragesh only started talking politics exceeding limits and the governor had to respond.  Had they [the historians] had come for the history, Irfan should have first prevented that MP as he spoiled the so-called “scientific and secular nature of history” principle reportedly followed by the IHC. As he accused Kerala government, then, the government could react to Habib? Habib has become senile and evidently, he does not know the Act and Rules in these aspects, and therefore talking definitely nonsense about “posting police” etc. Let him worry about the history and not to politicize and spoil IHC. The planned rowdyism of IHC gang could be seen here[5]. The video exposes the ugly mindset and behaviour of the so-called eminent historians. The irony that the so-called eminent, elite and emeritus historians behaved like politicians, agents of some political and party paid protesters! Since 1980s, these “historians” have been divided into “Marxist,” “AMU,” “JNU,”  “Mohammedan, “Bengali” and so on!  They never cared for the South Indians. They have one set of 30-40 persons and group regroup and manipulate the governing body and enjoy life. Even after retirement, as they want to monopolize they have been doing this academic fraud to sideline other historians. Here, Irfan Habib physically misbehaved with the Governor, as could be clearly noted from the videos. This is a security breach and unbecoming for a historian like him.

Marxist historians, India-fraud

Dalits, women and Muslims: When the first day was ruined with the folly of the senile old man, the next day was dominated with the heavy dosage of old wine in old bottles making the listeners to sleep. As the hall was air-conditioned, in the sweating Kannur climate, some hundreds went there and took good rest. On the second day 29-12-2019, of the Indian History Congress (IHC), history of the marginalized assumed centre stage and there were deliberations on women, dalits and the marginalized sections[6]. It appears that these historians, unwittingly, have taken up the old failed thesis to whip up the passion, but, as awareness has been created, they cannot fool the public.  The speakers who addressed various sessions opined that what we need is not rewriting history but adding new things to it. There were efforts to rewrite history, they said[7]. Historian Rajan Gurukkal, who chaired a session on Kerala history, said that the process of writing history will go on and the imagined state of the end of history will never happen. Historian Kesavan Veluthat, another panellist, said “William Logan idolised Nairs and termed them as ‘great Nairs, while he demonized Muslims and referred to them as ‘horrible Muslims’.” Historian Sanal Mohan talked about the challenges of alternative history and said that unless we did not have archives, we would not be able to tell anything new. The session on dalit history opined that there should be more studies on this segment. The influence of dalit politics in literature was one main aspect of the session. They went on mentioning the expression “dalit”, whereas, the government long back, ordered through a circular not to use it, as it is neither legal nor constitutional. Moreover, when the PM government came to power, it also instructed not to use it[8]. The session ‘Women in India: Reconstructing Women’s History’ by Aligarh Historians’ Society deliberated upon the rights of women and issues they face.

The 80th session of Indian History Congress held at Kannur University –The Governor speech was interrupted, Irfan Habib created a scene on the stage misbehaving! [4]

The 80th session of Indian History Congress held at Kannur University –The Governor speech was interrupted, Irfan Habib created a scene on the stage misbehaving! [4]

IHC - the two girls that created ruckus, Deepak touching police

Note those two “women-delegates,” who were used as a front, to start the ruckus and ten run riot to spoil the image of IHC.

IHC - the girl that created problem

See her face, how it changes…………..

IHC - the girl that created problem, how much strength

Yes, she can use force, as could be seen from her facial expression of violence…

The Bengali girl tossed the cap of the police

In that skirmish, the Lady-police hat was tossed and she catches it and wears! Thus, the so-called “woman-delegate” has no decency to respect a “Woman-police”! Is that way, she has been taught to oppose the authority?

Irfan Habib, the two women delegates and the rabble-rousing historians are not innocent: The media continued to report twisting the facts of events, as follows: “When the governor touched upon the subject of the CAA and defended the Centre, some participants started raising their voices in protest. When he said the house is open for discussion, two women delegates who were research fellows in the JNU, raised placards saying ‘this house (India) is not open for any discussions’. Even though the governor was heard saying that they have the right to protest democratically, the security officers tried to eject them. By then, the atmosphere was charged. Participants, students and professors began chanting slogans against the governor’s “political remarks”. According to some delegates, Khan quoted Maulana Azad, saying “the Partition took the dirt away but some potholes were left behind, where water has collected and now it is stinking.” He told the protestors, “You are causing a foul smell. Maulana Azad had said this for you.” This is when noted historian, professor Irfan Habib stood up and asked him to “quote Nathuram Godse” rather than Maulana Azad or Gandhi”. The media has utterly failed in pointing out the illegal misbehaviour, misconduct and unruly act of Irfan Habib and the so-called “women delegates”!

Histrisans shouting at Governer

Historians shouted and created ruckus-2

Historians shouted and created ruckus-3

Running riot historians or delegates

Running riot historians or delegates or mob

How the media has been mischievous in glorifying the rowdy behaviour of the historians: The media continued to report twisting the facts of events, as follows: “Particularly unseemly was the pandemonium that marked the inaugural with the distinguished historian and president of the current IHC, Irfan Habib (Aligarh school) getting up from his chair on the stage to remark, “The Governor may talk about Godse but not Maulana Azad.” That punctuated the Governor’s presentation with a full stop[1]. Mr Khan had his dander up, provoking the protesters to debunk the constitutional head for what they called his “unwarranted political remarks”. It needs to be underlined that the Indian History Congress ought not to be the venue of an ideological spat[2]. While the West Bengal Governor was barred from entering the JU campus as Chancellor on convocation day, the Kerala Governor, Mr Arif Mohammad Khan, was booed so severely that he had to wind up his address, claiming that his freedom of speech was being denied”.  Silly, stupid and ridiculous for the media to conclude that the act of disrespecting the Governors in the universities is a great job. That proves their ugly mindset of acting against the Act and Rules of this nation.

Irfan Habib tried to prevent Governer-4

Irfan’s idiotic talk of IHC not inviting the Governor: The media continued to report twisting the facts of events, as follows: “Historian Irfan Habib said the Indian History Congress (IHC) did not invite Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and it was the host institution, Kannur University, which invited him and other political leaders. “It is the right of the host institution to invite, however, we would not have thought of him,” the historian said criticising the Governor[3]. He was responding to the event that unfolded during the inauguration of the 80th session of the IHC at the university. He told The Hindu that the delegates were provoked when he started to speak about the Citizenship Amendment Act and denounced the Muslims. “The Governor was not invited to speak on CAA and the time of IHC is not for wasting,” he said adding that the Governor had the right to speak to an audience of his own[4]. The historian pointed out that the Governor was going into things that were no concern to the IHC. He was asked to address the IHC and not to a political audience, he asserted. Asked if there was a violation of the Governor’s protocol, Mr. Habib said the protocol did not govern the IHC and they had their own constitution. The members of IHC are governed by the Indian Constitution and the IHC’s, he said adding that the Governor’s protocol was false. Habib pointed out that in the past the President, the Vice-President and other eminent people attended the congress without any protocol. Habib was also critical of the Kerala government for posting the police at the IHC venue. The government should explain why policemen were deputed and four people were detained, he said. Habib also accused the police of obstructing him, when they had no business to be on the podium. So he pushed them aside to speak to the local secretary. He also expressed his concern that it happened in Kerala, where the Left government was governing.

Irfan pulled by Kannur VC and taken aside

Irfan Habib’s lies and the media coverage: There have been many documents that lay mandatory conditions as to how a Governor has to be treated when he is invited for any function. A University is a place, where, educated people are there, it is unimaginable that such events could have taken place at Kannur. Being a responsible historian, Habib went on telling lies.:

  1. Whether IHC invited, Kannur University invited, that is immaterial, as the so-called historians have to behave properly respecting the post.
  2. The Governor has not only been head of the Kerala State, but, Chancellor of all Universities of Kerala.
  3. The VC of Kannur University is responsible for the behaviour of the historians or delegates, who came there.
  4. As the Kannur University hosted the session, the IHC has been equally responsible for the decent behaviour and smooth proceedings of the deliberations.
  5. That the “women-delegates” were so prompt and ready to swing in action to show the placards, shout slogans and roughly behaved with the police proved that they had planned already.
  6. Habib’s blabbering that, “the Governor had the right to speak to an audience of his own,” is idiotic, because, he was the first person started heckling and interfering with the speech of the Governor.
  7. Habib’s, “I am 88; his ADC must have been 35 or 40. You can imagine the falsity of this statement from these facts,” rant[5] has been totally false, as the video proved his behaviour.
  8. Ironically, not only ADC, the VC had to control him, pull his hands, pulled him aside and made him to sit away from the Governor. So all had watched how the 88 behaved with vigour!
  9. The reporter of “The Hindu” and other media houses should know some fundamentals about the duties of Chancellor, VC and other dignitaries of the University.
  10. The IHC had involved in politics long back and the historians cannot fool common people and citizens of India. Perhaps, the people might start questioning them one day, if they continue to lie in this fashion. It is not their “Marxist or Mohammedan historiography” to interpret, misinterpret or distort to suit them without any objectivity, impartiality and neutrality.

Irfan Habib a liar, rowdy

What Governor told

Telling lies bad for historians: The media continued to report twisting the facts of events, as follows: “Historians[6], Jabir Raza of AMU and Farhat Hasan of DU, said[7], “When the protests commenced, professor Irfan Habib, who was on the dais in the capacity of the outgoing president of the IHC, got up from his seat and proceeded to the VC of Kannur University, Gopinath Ravindran, to request him to stop what was happening and requested the governor to refrain from turning the IHC into his political arena. He had also requested the governor to stop making remarks of the nature he was indulging in. As soon as Habib went there, the ADC and the security officer of the governor pushed him aside and tried to stop him. The governor, too, started accusing Habib of trying to stop him from speaking.” But, these two were sitting 100 ft away among the audience, of course shouting at the Governor, as the videos show, therefore, they had lied only. Irony and regrettable that the historians behave like rowdies.

The 80th session of Indian History Congress held at Kannur University – Highly politicized and spoiled show – The Governor targeted with agenda! [3]

IHC Kannur politicized with rowdyism

The ugly political background of the present IHC: The background of Kannur and politics have to be known, probed and understood by historians. IHC has been conducting its annual tamasha only in Communist, congress and Mohammedan dominated areas since 1980s. It is a fact that those government sponsor and grant money, so that their political ideologies are nurtured, percolated through papers and getting published in the proceedings. This is how the academic proceedings have been manipulated. Instead of uniting youth, they have been doing their worst to divide them based on communalized ideology, ideologized polity and politicized pseudo-secularism. None could imagine that Ambedkar did not know secularism, just because, it was inserted later. Therefore, the amendment of the provisions of the Constitution according to the existing exigency has been quite normal, whereas, the opposition parties have been trying to run riot on one or other pretext.

  14. Dr Manjula Poyil was elected as Treasurer.

Apart from them, cultural leaders, representatives of the people, political party leaders, research scholars, journalists, teachers and students are also part of the committee[4]. Pro VC Dr PT Raveendran presided over the meeting. VC Dr Gopinath Raveendran spoke about the importance of the event.

  1. Ports Minister Ramachandran Kadannappally was the chief guest.
  2. District panchayath president KV Sumesh,
  3. corporation councillor Lisha Deepak,
  4. Dr VPP Mushtafa, Biju Kandakkai, A Nishanth, Dr John Joseph,
  5. CPM district secretary MV Jayarajan,
  6. CPI district secretary P Santhosh Kumar,
  7. IUML district general secretary Abdul Karim Cheleri, Dr Manjula Poil and Dr C Balan participated in the meeting held.

Thus, the Marxist, Leninist, and all communist categories, Mohammedan and “secular” groups have ganged up, obviously to do something.

Kannur political and communal murders Graphics-3

IUML and communists engaged in poltical murders in Kannur and other places: It is interesting to note how IHC is regularly dominated with politicians, that too, with fundamentalist Mohammedans.  Just in May 2019, when CPM Kannur district secretary M V Jayarajan demanded that Muslim women who queue up in polling booths should remove their face veil, Abdul Karim Cheleri said the communal mindset of the CPM has been exposed through Jayarajan’s statement[5]. LDF candidate P K Sreemathi too supported the demand[6]. “Jayarajan had raised the issue to prevent bogus voting. It’s not an anti-religious statement, said Sreemathi[7]. However, IUML does not want others to interfere with their religious sanctions[8]. Moreover, for IHC how these politicians are coming together is not, as otherwise, their party cadres have been involved in killing each other. Just two months back, the same Abdul Karim Cheleri accused CPI (M) involved in killing their cadre accusing another Jayarajan[9]. Isahak, 38, was allegedly hacked to death at Tanur by a group of unidentified assailants with suspected links to the ruling Left[10]. Meanwhile, the IUML alleged that there was a CPI(M) conspiracy behind the attack.[11] “Former Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan came to the area a few days ago and held a meeting where some of the culprits also took part,” a Youth League leader alleged.

How K.K.N.Kurupp narrates about the murderous Kannur heritage: The culture of bloodshed in Kannur, which continues even today despite ritualistic political handshakes to give peace a chance, is probably as old as the folk traditions of the land, its myths and history[12]. From the myths of theyyams that glorified the subaltern gods to the Vadakkanpattu (ballads) and the revolt against the British by Pazhassi Raja, there are plenty of stories where people shed blood with pride. But in the age of democracy why is this place obsessed with martyrdom? Is it because a martyr is a political investment? From the murder of RSS leader Vadikkal Ramakrishnan in Thalassery in 1968 (considered to be the first political murder) to killing of E Santhosh (another RSS activist) in January 2017, nearly 186 people have been killed here over the past five decades. The north Malabar region always had a tradition of violence right from the days of feudalism, said historian K K N Kurup[13]. “If the reason is politics, why is it not there in other parts of India or Kerala? Why they practice this camouflage battle strategy here only?“ he asked. He felt that this was the continuation of a tribal character though their act of vendetta is political in nature. “If African tribes involve in fights to assert their racial supremacy, here it is for political supremacy. Both reflect the same attitude. I feel they have the element of the `suicidal fighter’ in this age of democracy ,“ he said.

Kannur political and communal murders Graphics-2

K.K.N.Kurupp – refuted for his linking traditional pattus and dances to violence: However, it is wrong to link the gory culture in politics with Vadakkanpattu, said kalaripayattu exponent P Meenakshi Amma. “The fights narrated in Vadakkanpattu had a basic element of ethics. In the political battlefield, bloodshed is mostly an act of vendetta. They get involved in it because they have no knowledge about the tradition of kalaripayattu and Vadakkanpattu,“ she said. But this political violence cannot be isolated from the folk tradition of the place that often told the story of the lower-caste victims, said researcher T Sasidharan, who heads the political science department of Kannur S N College. He had exhaustively researched the history of political violence in Kannur and wrote a book titled `Radical Politics of Kannur’. “When we look at the socioeconomic aspect of the murders and violence in Kannur, it can be seen that nearly 65% of the martyrs, irrespective of politics, belong to the thiyya community. A majority of them are economically-backward,“ he said. Though the murder of Ramakrishnan is considered to be the beginning of political murders in Kannur, the roots of political violence began with the emergence of Praja Socialist Party (PSP) in the 1950s under P R Kurup, he said. There were clashes between PSP and the Communist Party in Panur and with the disintegration of PSP in the late 60s, the violence took a new turn when its workers joined Jana Sangh.

Jayaraj with Madani poster-IHC
It was only the political competition between the Communists and the Mohammedans: Though political rivalry is said to the reason for the violence here, the political character is fast vanishing and `quotation culture’ is making inroads, said K P Mohanan, a local political observer who has closely followed the culture of bloodshed in Kannur. Though murders have been an ongoing process, incidents such as the attack on CPM district secretary P Jayarajan on August 25, 1999 worsened the situation. This ultimately led to the murder of Yuva Morcha leader KT Jayakrishnan on December 1, 1999, and a spate of murders followed, he added. “It is a fact that Kannur shows a tribal character when it comes to murder, and that is why if one person is killed, his political tribe target the rival elsewhere. But, the tragedy is that quite often the poor working-class people coming home after their day’s work are the victims,“ he said. Incidentally, while murders in the past took place in broad daylight, now it is committed at night and this has given rise to the impression that some `third parties’ and quotation gangs ¬ without any political commitment ¬ have replaced the political warriors, claimed residents.

The 80th session of Indian History Congress held at Kannur University – Highly politicized and spoiled show [1]

January 1, 2020

The 80th session of Indian History Congress held at Kannur University – Highly politicized and spoiled show [1]

Kannur university hosted IHC

Delegate fees, accommodation etc: The 80th session of Indian History Congress was held at the Kannur University Campus. On 27th itself, many delegates, evidently from long distance, from northern states started arriving by various trains.  For varied reasons, there was a delay at every point and slowly, the registration went on and then, they were accommodated at different lodges and hotels situated near and as well as 30 to 40 kms away from the Kannur University campus. Rs 3500/- was charged and many felt, it was excessive. The kit was not given, as they were not ready. Moreover, the accommodation given was not satisfactory. It is evident that they were impartial in allotting accommodation to delegates and thus tried to confuse with fee structure and other conditions as follows. This is mentioned because the circulars of the IHC had threatened the delegates with different circulars. One read as follows[1]: “IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS REGARDING LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS”:

  1. Last date for receipt of Delegate Fee: The last date for the receipt of delegate fee (Rs 3,500) is 1 st December, 2019 by DD, and 20/12/2019 by online payment. Delegates are requested not to delay payments of delegate fee beyond the last date because accommodation will be arranged on the basis of the delegate fees already received. If any delegate, despite this plea, arrives at the venue without payment of delegate fee in time, he or she will have to find accommodation on his or her own, while paying us Rs. 1500/- for the kit and meals. Alternatively, the member can pay Rs.5000/- as delayed delegate fee, provided we can find accommodation, without guaranteeing it[2].
  2. Delegate Fee Remittance: Delegate fee of Rs. 3500/- can be paid via the online registration cum payment link https://forms.gle/gZTQf6eveRrf8oDU6 (credit card, debit card, RTGS, NEFT, Paytm) or by Demand Draft. If any delegate would prefer to make his or her own arrangements for accommodation, and only requires the kit and the food facilities, the payment will be Rs. 1500/-, as stated above.
  3. All payments must be in the name of “Local Treasurer” payable at SBI, Fort Road Branch, Kannur-1, if you are paying by Demand Draft; you can fill the online form and insert your Demand Draft details, and send the DD to the address given below with your membership no., full name, and other details. Or, you may fill in the form sent with the Local Secretary’s circular and speed-post or courier a copy of it with your Demand Draft to “Dr P. Mohandas, Local Secretary, 80th Session, Indian History Congress Organizing Committee, HRDC Buildings, Kannur University Campus, Kannur 670002 – KERALA.”
  4. Please do not forget to mention your name, mobile number, and membership number at the back of the DD. The Local Secretary will NOT accept cheque payments of any kind, including multi-city cheques. We also strongly recommend the online payment option.
  5. The confirmation of the payment of the delegate fee must reach the Local Secretary not later than 28 November 2019.
  6. Reception: The Reception Desk in the Kannur University campus, Thavakkara, Kannur, Kerala, will be active from the morning of 27th December, 2019, to 28th December afternoon. The Help Desk at Kannur Railway Station and Kannur Airport will be active from December 27th morning to 28th afternoon. While transport will not be provided to the University, the volunteers will be at the Station and Airport to help arrange for transport.

All these show that how they have been very meticulous in collecting money from the delegates, but, they were not sincere in reciprocating by giving reasonably good accommodation, food etc., as could be known from the subsequent events.

Kannur university hosted IHC-5,000 fees

The academic session, paper presentation etc: On 27th, after registration done from morning, the kit was not given. When the delegates came for dinner by 7 pm, message was sent to all to bring “food token” coming for dinner by 7 pm. Their timing was horrible, perhaps, within a minute all 3000 delegates get their kits and come there with token for food. Naturally, many delegates did not get their kit-bag, as some of them left their fee-receipts in the rooms themselves. Initially, the people at the “Food-tent” were adamant in their attitude by insisting tokens. One person was not agreeing with the on-line registration with accommodation details and other messages received in cell-phone and shown to him. He was so stubborn and posed and as a strict disciplinarian, but, later he was allowing others who did not pay delegate fees also. Coming to paper presentation also, they were not definite about, as no “list of papers” was given in the kit. When the asked on 30th morning, surprisingly, the declared that all copies were exhausted. Really, it is a wonder how thousands of copies could vanish. The fact could be that purposely, they printed fewer copies. Thus, the brought out one[3] “Supplementary paper list.” Then, another “Supplementary list-2” was released[4]. Then, “Final list” was released[5]. So, it is not known, why this confusion and all. It is evident that the person-in-charge of papers received had not done his job properly. Yet, the sectional presidents were harassing the paper presenters without following the sl.no.order.

IHC, the kit

The so-called kit: The kit is nothing but a small cloth bag containing a pencil and sharpener with a scribbling pad. Of course a souvenir and a booklet “Sheikh Zainuddin Makhdoom II and Tuhfat ul Mujahideen – A Revisit to a Historical Text: After 437 years” of Dr K.K.N.Kurup. There was a program card about inauguration.

  1. The booklets of addresses sectional presidents,
  2. list of papers,
  3. pen and
  4. other required materials were not found.

Really, it is surprising that for payment of Rs.3500/-, the kit given had been in this way. Moreover, that cloth bag also “complementary” from one “………………….college…………” and Yono by SBI. Therefore, it is not known how this type of kit was conceived and finalized to be distributed to the delegates.

Kannur university hosted IHC, proceeding volume

About the proceeding volumes: Their circular declared, “It is expected that the printed volume of the Proceedings of the 79th session (Barkatullah University, Bhopal) will be ready (both in the form of a printed copy and CD) for free distribution among members such as were on rolls at the 79th session) at the forthcoming (80th ) session at the Kannur University, Kerala”. However, the CD was not given. Old copies of previous proceeding volumes were brought and dumped near registration counter. Actually, many life members are not attending regularly, but, they are not getting their volumes. Earlier, if Rs 20/-. 40/- etc., were sent by M.O, the life members used to get the volumes by Registered book post. Therefore, it is not known, how the volumes are sold, without giving copies to life members.

Kannur university hosted IHC, food not upto the mark

The food provided to the delegates: Though, the organizers asked about “Food” veg or non-veg, it was evident that they did not care about the “veg” food takers. When six or seven tables were with non-veg items, only one table was with veg-food. The veg-food quality was very normal and the items were not prepared properly. The sambar and rasam were not up to the mark. The items were too salty, sour and nor palatable also. As usual, the non-veg historians invaded veg also, looted and the veg-historians had to keep quiet. However, hundreds of historians and delegates were shouting for “Azadi / freedom” for many things. Here, they were contradicting and violating the rights of others. Above all, that “dictator” was worried and particular in asking for token!

Kannur university hosted IHC, office barriers

The attitude of the office barriers, their engaged volunteers etc: Any simple onlooker could notice that the IHC engaged volunteers, that too, young girls had been so indifferent, callous and uninterested with the delegates of aged, coming from different places etc. They made others waiting, or going from counter to counter without any reason. Shockingly, nearly 50 such volunteers were sitting in a row with tables and chairs. The two young ladies were asking the delegates to wait for 10 minutes for every 20 and 30 minutes. They claimed that the registration had to be done online by them. Thus, the delegates were made to stand there for nearly two hours and then they started sending messages through phones. However, one had to wait for another message for confirmation and then for accommodation. The accommodation also was not provided, though, they claimed, it would come as message. After asking a dozen times only, they provided and then again had to wait for vehicle, as the places were 20 to 30 kms away from the university campus.

Vairamuthu’s research on Andal, the “quoted quote research methodology,” and the confession of “eminent historians”!

January 20, 2018

Vairamuthu’s research on Andal, the “quoted quote research methodology,” and the confession of “eminent historians”!

Andal, Vairamuthu controversy

The controversy started with Vairamuthu on Andal (07-1-2018): What Vairamuthu wrote about Andal as appeared in “Dinamani” in Tamil, and its translation is given as follows[1]: “As Andal was not born to Periyazhwar, there were no details available about her birth, though, she was brought up by a Brahmin, as the society that was controlled with caste stratification might not accept her into such caste hierarchy, Andal herself had already attained the freedom of word with force and there was a practice of offering women to temple accepted by the then society, some researchers have been compelled to arrive at stunning conclusions. The book ‘Indian Movement: some aspects of dissent, protest and reform’ edited by Subash Chandra Malik of Indiana University, USA contains such reference as follows: Andal was herself a devadasi who lived and died in the Srirangam Temple. The devotees might not accept this, but, those who oppose patriarchy and socio-religious (code) might think about it.” This created the controversy that is still raging in Tamilnadu and some parts of Andhra and Karnataka. Ironically, now, Dinamani has removed the controversial or rather blasphemous article and their regrets are appearing there[2].

Vairamuthu, Vaidhyanathan, dinamani

Verification of the book referred to by Vairamuthu: Now, let us analyze the “quote” of the learned poet and writer of Vairamuthu. As he has given the reference, now, as a “researcher”, anyone can go to the source and verify.

India movements, S C Malik edited book

Thus, let us see the book under reference. M. G. S. Narayanan and Veluthat Kesavan published a paper, “The Bhakti Movement in South India” in “Indian Movements: Some Aspects of Dissent Protest and Reform,” edited and introduced by S. C. Malik and published by Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla in 1978. In which, what they claimed was,

Cheraman Perumal Nayanar notes the reception given to Shiva by devadasis of all ages while he went out in procession around the streets in Kailas35, and Andal herself is a Devadasi who lived and died in the Sri Rangam Temple36.

Quotations of MGS

The two footnotes given for support for those two lines are as follows:

  1. Ceraman Perumal Nayanar, Adiyula, M. Raghava Aiyangar, ed. Caruventar Ceyyukovai, 1951, Trivandrum, Vol.II, pp.136-64.
  1. T. A. Gopinatha Rao, The History of Sri Vaishnavas, Madras, 1923, Madras, p. 5.

MGS, Kesavan , tthe book

So when we look at page no.5 of the said book, what, T. A. Gopinatha Rao recorded is this, “When she reached marriageable age, she refused to marry anyone except the God Ranganatha of the Srirangam temple. The God appeared to the Alvar in a dream to declare before him his acceptance of the girl in marriage and ordered her to be brought to his residence at Srirangam. Periyalvar took her there with great eclat and left her in her Lord’s house and returned to his quiet residence at Srivilliputtur.

Quotations of MGS- TAG Rao reference

Therefore, there is nothing like what the learned historians M. G. S. Narayanan and Veluthat Kesavan reportedly claimed, “Andal herself is a Devadasi who lived and died in the Sri Rangam Temple.” Why then, the leaned “historians” wrote in that way and what was their motive?

Quotations of MGS- TAGopinatha Rao reference,p.5

M. G. S. Narayanan clarified to Dinathanthi that there was no such reference to Devadasi[3]: When Asoka Vardhini contacted M. G. S. Narayanan through phone, he accepted that there was no specific reference to Andal as devadasi and he mentioned it based on inference only. He also accepted that Veluthat Kesavan was a student of him, doing M.A history (implying that he might not have been having research expertise at that time). There is no inscriptional evidence to that effect and it was written only based on “oral tradition.” When she asked specifically, he specifically confessed that there is no primary evidence and even secondary evidence to that effect, it was a controversial interpretation and a “matter of inference”. Then, naturally, it is intriguing and shocking to know as to know how they could have written conclusively, “Andal was herself a devadasi who lived and died in the Srirangam Temple.” Now, he is considered as one of reputed and eminent historians of India, former chairman of ICHR and so on. Why them, they stooped to such “quoted quote” research methodology, amounting faking and forging such lies and falsehood in historiography?

Vairamuthu regrets for Andal comments

The implications of “quoted quote research,” bogey of “eminent historians” and other modern-day mythistories: Now let us analyze their quotations, reportedly lifted from two books mentioned above.

  1. The book in question was published by Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla in 1978 and not by Indiana University, USA as claimed by Vairamuthu.
  1. Vairamuthu should have verified the sources before quoting, that too, part of a sentence picking up from their paper. He must have consulted the original sources (as he knows Tamil very well) and also other secondary sources after 1978 to present his speech and “researched” article appeared.
  1. Ironically, he and the press, still carry such wrong and falsified blabbering[4]. “As part of my research for writing this article on Aandaal, I happened to read a collection of articles edited by Subhash Chandra Malik in the name of “Indian Movements: Some Aspects of Dissent, Protest and Reform”, the original from Indiana University and published by Indian Institute of Advanced Study in 1978. It is very much an Indian research study by Indian historians,”thus claimed Vairamuthu.[5]
  1. Vairamuthu added, “Professor M.G.S Narayanan & Professor Kesavan Veiuthat. Professor M. G. S Narayanan is considered as “one of India’s top authorities on ancient history” and has served as the chairman of Indian Council of Historical Research. Professor Kesavan Veluthat is the Professor of History in University of Delhi. The line mentioned in my article was from a reputed publication and by reputed historians.” But, M. G. S. Narayanan now refuted. Here, Vairamuthu mentioned, “G.S Narayanan is considered as “one of India’s top authorities on ancient history,” whereas, the subject dealt with has not been so ancient!
  1. Cheraman Perumal Nayanar notes the reception given to Shiva by devadasis of all ages while he went out in procession around the streets in Kailas35.” M. G. S. Narayanan himself accepted that the story of Cheraman Perumal was a myth floated after 13th century by the vested Mohammedan groups. Therefore, the question of devadasis of all sorts going out in procession is redundant, immaterial and incompetent.
  1. Andal herself is a Devadasi who lived and died in the Sri Rangam Temple36.” This is also fake, fraudulent and deceptive, as T.A. Gopinatha Rao never mentioned such sentence in his book, as pointed out above.
  1. It is unbecoming for these researchers, now, paraded as “historians” to quote that was not there in a book, secondary source.
  1. It exposes the dubious and dangerous nature of “quoted quote” research methodology, as most of the researchers, may not look into the quotes recorded by the “eminent historians.”
  1. Coming to ideology, it is evident that the involved personalities have been Marxists and atheists and thus, their speeches and writings have been tarnished with bias, prejudice and without objectivity.
  1. As the Marxist ideology is coupled with Dravidian ideology of atheism, that is directed against Hindu religion, evidently, Hindus have come to streets. How they have been oppressed, suppressed and attacked by them since 1960s have been too well-known to be repeated here.

Malda IHC conference, communal fire and blaspheme riots – were they incidental, coincidental or ancillary (3)?

Malda map, IHC, poppy cultivation

Why the eminent historians are not punished for their lies and falsehood spread with their popularity[1]: As R. Vaidhyanathan[2] pointed out, “Clearly, the expertise of eminences has been exposed. If such a thing had happened in physics or chemistry or medicine or accounting, the concerned person would have been taken to task by their professional associations. Unfortunately, the social science disciplines in India are under the grip of Left charlatans and they are not accountable to any. It is important that they are made accountable. Many of the things they said hardened positions on both sides, and they cannot now wriggle out and claim what they said was not their expert opinion. Their respective universities would do well to initiate action against them or take other disciplinary steps to improve the reputation of the profession of historian. The textbooks written or edited by them for schools and colleges should be revoked and other books of less eminent — but more honest — historians should be prescribed. They need to be made accountable and brought to book, howsoever highly networked or “eminent” they are. Is the HRD ministry, and various universities, listening? ” Though, he raised this issue three years back, it was ignored and perhaps not noticed by many or such views were blacked out in the media, so that others might look at. Only one side views are presented to the readers, so that they believe what they read?  Now, coming to the issue, what Azam Khan told has to be noted in the context.

03-01-2016 violence Malda by Mus;ims preplannedAzam khan started “homosexual” controversy dragging RSS (November 2015): According to a report in Nai Dunia, the loudmouth SP leader, while commenting on the contentious issue of homosexuality, said that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) members are like that (homosexuals)[3], thus, the Zeenews reported. Driving his point home[4], Khan maintained ”this is the reason why the RSS people don’t marry.” This was reported on November 20th, 2015. The RSS had, however, taken a strong objection to Azam Khan’s statement and said that the SP leader has lost his mental balance. Khan’s comments came after Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, last Saturday, said that the “judgment on gay sex should be reconsidered” by the Supreme Court. “Supreme Court’s 2014 verdict banning gay sex is not in accordance with evolving legal jurisprudence and court needs to reconsider it,” Jaitley said while speaking at Times LitFest. Was it progressive or regressive view of a rightist? Thus, instead of appreciating, they stooped down to create problems and run riot for some reason. Incidentally, another case has also to be mentioned and discussed here, where, also the eminent historians were involved. It is nothing but the case of VJA Flynn, Australian professor, numismatist, Persian scholar and writer of books with some of them.

VJA Flynn case involving eminent historiansHow the eminent historians promoted smuggling of antiquities through Vincent John Adams Flynn: Dr. (Vincent John Adams) Flynn, the Australian Professor who used to come to India and smuggle out pre-Mauryan antiquities including coins and was caught red-handed at Indira Gandhi International Airport and then escaped through Indo-Australian Diplomatic agreement. He has been a very close and good friend of A.A.A. Rizvi, Nural Hassan, Irfan Habib and other “eminent” and “elite” historians of India! He has authored books with A.A.A. Rizvi, B.P. Saxena In 1993, “The officers of DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence), Delhi Zonal Unit, intercepted a consignment of antiquities which were being allegedly attempted to be smuggled out to Hong Kong in six packages vide shipping Bill No 416 dated January 19, 1993 by making false declaration as handicraft items of stones. The alleged antiquities were loaded from a container which was parked at ICD Tughlakabad, Okhla.” What were the items? 18 stone sculptures of deities, certified to be antiquities, by the Archaeological Survey of India. DRI officers caught hold of Girish Dhawan and registered a complaint that his services had been engaged for documentation and processing of shipping bills in question, for `a huge sum of rupees’. One learns from the text of the Delhi High Court judgment dated May 1 that the complaint had been filed under Sections 132 and 135(1)(a) of the Customs Act; queerly, “no complaint was filed for the violation of the Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972.”

Which eminent historians and archaeologists gave certificates to VJA Flynn?: At the court, the accused relied upon a 1996 decision of the Delhi High Court: Dr. V.J.A. Flynn vs S.S. Chauhan[5]. That story was about Flynn and Sadasivan Mudaliar who were allegedly leaving for Sydney via Hong Kong by Air India Flight on June 21, 1994. “On being intercepted at the airport, it transpired that in the baggage of the petitioner there were coins which were suspected to be antiquities the export of which is prohibited under Section 3 of the Antiquities Act,” reads the text of Justice Usha Mehra’s verdict dated March 4, 1996. Flynn’s defence was that he had bought the rare coins from a shop in Bangalore. “He further states that he had been collecting the coins for over 50 years for his own delight and enjoyment. Some of these coins were of copper and silver.” Thus, he would have got certificates from his friendly-historians to the effect that they were only less than 100 / 50 years. Incidentally, their names were not mentioned, but, from the certificates produced to Custom authorities, who issued such certificates could be noted. Meanwhile Superintending Archaeologist examined the coins and prima facie opined that the same were antiquities.

Colonial impunity, Commonwealth courtesy and delay in bureaucracy helped Flynn to flow out of India!:  Antiquity is defined as including: “any coin, sculpture, painting epigraph or other work of art or craftsmanship; any article, object or thing detached from a building or cave; any article, object or thing illustrative of science, art, crafts, literature, religion, customs, morals or politics in bygone ages; any article, object or thing of historical interest; any article, object or thing declared by the Central Government, by notification in the Official Gazette, to be an antiquity for the purposes of this Act, which has been in existence for not less than one hundred years; and any manuscript, record or other document which is of scientific, historical, literary or aesthetic value and which has been in existence for not less than seventy-five years.” Justice Mehra pointed out that the predecessor Act, that is, the Antiquities Act, 1947, had made all the provisions of the Customs Act applicable to an offence committed under the Antiquities Act. However, the 1972 Act had omitted the applicability of all the provisions of the Customs Act. Accordingly, provisions of the Customs Act are now applicable only for confiscation and penalty, said the judge. Punishment and prosecution had to be under the Antiquities Act, she added, before quashing the complaint. In the Dhawan case, DRI submitted that the Flynn decision had been taken to the apex court through a Special Leave Petition[6].

Malda riot by the Muslims after IHC on 3-1-2016IHC ended with resolution on 30-12-2015 and the riots started on 03-01-2016: So when Hindu religion, beliefs, system and Hindus have been under such orchestrated, constant and continuous attacks, criticism and blasphemical talks and acts, can all such aggressive and intrusive acts be tolerated by the meek, mild and naive Hindus? The Times of India had in a report said that Tiwari, who claims to be the working president of Hindu Mahasabha, had called Prophet Muhammad the first homosexual in the world[7]. It is clear that TOI published such news in isolation without giving the context or full speech. Then, it adds that, “Tiwari’s statement had come a day after UP Cabinet minister Azam Khan called RSS members homosexuals”. According to reports, around one lakh Muslims on Friday 01-01-2016 gathered in Muzaffarnagar, demanding death penalty for Tiwari[8] i.e, fatwa for him! Straight away capital punishment ordered without arrest, trial etc., though, at the other side, the same progressive, leftists and other categories oppose it.

Malda set on fire buy the muslimsChauri-chaura type attack on Policce stations: Protesters under the banner of ‘Ittehad-e-Millat’ led by Maulana Khalid, closed their business and demonstrated against the Hindu Mahasabha activist [9]. Similar protests against Tiwari have been reported from Bengaluru and Delhi. Protesting against some `blasphemous` statements made by a Hindu Mahasabha leader Kamlesh Tiwari, a large number of people on Thursday 07-01-2016 went on a rampage in Purnea district of Bihar, torching vehicles and attacking a police station[10]. The Union Home Ministry has asked the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal for a report on the mob violence on Sunday, during a protest march at Kaliachak, a town near Malda which is the headquarter of the district of the same name. Protesters had set fire to a police station and damaged vehicles[11]. On Sunday, over a lakh protesters gathered for a rally called by a little-known Muslim organization Idara-e-Shariya against a right-wing activist’s alleged hate speech in Uttar Pradesh. The crowd then ransacked the jeep and attacked the Kaliachak police station and vehicles parked outside it. They also ransacked police barracks and a Block Development Officer’s office. Police sources said the mob also ransacked a locality where mostly Hindus live, but there was no retaliation and so no clashes and no loss of lives. Again, there was no condemnation from the IHC or any other tolerant activists for such unlawful attacks, mob violence and looting of public and private properties. However, the IHC had been quick enough to pass the following resolutions and incited the Muslims, as in Malda, the Muslim population has been sizeable[12] and all such acts to start within a week of the winding up of the 76th session at the Goud Banga University on December 30th 2015.

The 10th National Conference of ABISY was held at Mysore from December 24th to 26th 2015 on “Women in Indian culture: From ancient to Modern” (3)

December 29, 2015

The 10th National Conference of ABISY was held at Mysore from December 24th to 26th 2015 on “Women in Indian culture: From ancient to Modern” (3).

RSS briefed about the conference earlier - Indian Express, Aug 17, 2015

ABISY, RSS and women: In August itself, the RSS briefed about the conference[1] as could be noted from the Indian express. From December 24 to 26, Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana (ABISY) will hold a three-day conference in Mysore, where around 1,000 delegates will discuss “Women in Indian culture: through the ages”. “We will discuss their strength and their importance in various phases of Indian history. Women in Rig Vedic times enjoyed a high status in society but due to several reasons their status began to decline,” said Balmukund, an RSS pracharak working with ABISY. Sources say an RSS meeting in Nainital discussed the gender ratio in RSS affiliates (see chart). “Representation of women is gradually increasing in our organisations. At the Ahmedabad conclave, we will discuss several aspects of women empowerment and their role in our organisations,” said Mahila Samanway chief Geeta Tayi Gunde, who coordinates among the affiliates on women’s issues. Though RSS shakhas don’t allow women, a separate organisation called Rashtra Sevika Samiti holds women’s shakhas on the lines of RSS shakhas[2]. But, RSS has been having dialogue with Christians and Muslims. However, they are not able to counter negative reorting of media, whenever, it is mentioned that they are against so-and-so and so on[3].

Aggressive left historiansThe aggressive domination of the Leftist and Muslim historians: The excessive, extreme and unnecessary domination of the leftists and Muslim groups over the proceedings of IHC has been resented, questioned and examined by neutral historians, archaeologists and other connected experts many times. The way they have been projecting the medieval and modern periods and suppressing the ancient period and also the interpretation of national, social, religious and political issues, problems and controversies in a biased manner much against the interests of common Indians[4]. The IHC coetrie have been authoritatively imposing such one-sided view for the last 60 years, as could be noted not only from the yearly proceedings volumes, but also their interviews, views and comments registered in the media on various occassions. Ironically the charges of so-called elite, eminent and emeritus hisorians have been proved baseless even at the level of Supreme Court, when their own engaged experts filed petitions alleging the saaffronization of educational curriculum, academic and social institutions, the Hon’ble Court ruled out dismissing them. Romila Thapar agitated and openly questioned the judgment dubbing as “Hindutwa judgment” and declared that they would be appealing against the judgment, but noting happened. So in a democaratic country, all views have to be accommodated, naturally, the so-called rightist, nationalist and hindutwa views also be provided space equally. As the dominant leftist and Muslim coetrie does not relish this, the ideological struggle has now been turned into political one and for which they are responsible. This was revealed even during the IHC-2014 jeld at JNU taking the issue of “glorification of Nehruvian era”[5].

marxist-historian-work-together-ideologicallyABISY, RSS and IHC: RSS and IHC were having ideological struggle over Indin history, historiography and methodoloy for the last three decades. While the IHC dominant groups have been moving ahead with the current topics, recent issues and contemporary problems, the rightist, nationalist and patriotic counterparts have not even realized their exisence. Most of them have been almost The IHC ideological bandwagon and aggressive coetrie many times do not recongize peer group experts, only because of the reason that they might be against their ideology. Thus, many prominent, professional and secialized historians, archaeologists, epigraphists, numismaticians and others were / are never invited or allowed to attend the conference by their own “rogue mannerism” but showing off as “expertized professionalism”.  Though RSS has been trying to counter them through ABISY and BISS, their heads, zonal heads and members have been –

  1. Not matching with the professionalism of the leftist and Muslim ideologists.
  2. The vigour started in 1980s died down with changed persons heading[6].
  3. Instead of “offensive”, “defensive” position is taken in the match, however, there have been some individual fighters, but they are ignored by the rightists.
  4. In spite of the judicial victory[7], they could not continue the academic struggle with proficiency, professionalism and practice[8].
  5. inexperienced in preseting papers, if at all, they come forward to present.
  6. read and understand Indian history any perspective.
  7. Ameteurish, unprofessional and incompetent in dealing with their ideological opponents.
  8. Dormant because of excessive patriotism and refused to look at other ideologists in right perspective.
  9. Ignore, sideline and even disregard the exerienced who come to join, work with and get along the ABISY and BISS.
  10. Active only when BJP or NDA is in power and latent during other periods.

Unless, the rightists do not revaluate, reassess and reorganize themselves, they cannot win the battle.

Nehruvian era, IHC, ICHR and RSS (2014): Even as Madan Mohan Malaviya and Shyamaprasad Mookerjee continue to make news headlines, Jawaharlal Nehru dominated a day in New Delhi where historians praised his role, at an event that was sponsored among others by the state governments of Kerala, Karnataka and Assam, all Congress-led administrations. The three-day long Platinum Jubilee edition of the Indian History Congress (IHC), which concluded in JNU last year, also counts the Union government bodies ICHR andUGC among its main sponsors. The IHC Association, which organizes the meet, had set a broad direction for the annual event with the theme ‘Humanism, Tolerance and Reason: Defining the Contours of History’. But two panels under the auspices of the left-leaning JNU and Aligarh Historians’ Society (AHS) expressly focused on discussions and paper presentations concerning the Nehruvian Era and its current relevance, and the past and present forms of inequality in India, respectively[9]. But Dr Rakesh Batabyal, Local Secretary of the IHC, said there was nothing much political to read into the event. “We had written to all state governments for sponsorship and received from these three. Also, the HRD Ministry through UGC and ICHR has also sponsored the event, so there is nothing political about it,” he said. Batabyal pointed out that ICHR head Y. Sudharshan Rao – an appointee of the BJP-led Central government[10] – had also been invited and he attended the event. “The reason for focusing on Nehru was on account of the commemoration of the ex-PM’s Golden death anniversary. Also, we have voices from the economic right to left, it was an open field, he added. He also conceded, though, that finding historians from cultural right was difficult, and thus no presence could be seen,” he said. On its part, the RSS-affiliated history research organization was not too impressed with the event. “We used to go for the event in the past, but now none of our office bearers goes. The IHCA is a communist-leaning organization,” Mukul Pandey (sic), General Secretary of the ABISY, told ET[11].

[3] The ABISY is working on several projects to rewrite history. Last year the outfit organised a function at National Museum to pay homage to the “last Hindu emperor of Delhi Hemu Vikramaditya”. From December 24 to 26, ABISY will hold a three-day conference in Mysore, where around 1,000 delegates will discuss “Women in Indian Culture: Through the Ages.” – See more at: http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/tatya-tope-rss-linked-outfit-backs-descendants-theory-on-his-death/#sthash.KZjgannq.dpuf

[4] The Proceeding volumes sprak the truth and the papers chosen to include expose their bias, prejudice and hatred against others. Many times, very good researched papers, eventhough recommended by the sectional presidents after much appreciated discussion, were not included brcause of such professional, ideological and regional bias.

[5] The Economic Times, Historians praise Jawaharlal Nehru at annual Indian History Congress Association meet,AKSHAY DESHMANE, ET Bureau Dec 30, 2014, 09.33PM IST.

[6] During the New Delhi session, many of the faithfuls simply sent the life membership money with the note, “As per the directions of Mananiya Moropant Pingely, I hereby send the fees”. Alerted and bewildered by them, the ruling IHC bandwagon simply rejected their membership. However, both had been proved wrong, as the Delhi High Court decided differently, when they went to court.

[7] The so-called “Hindutwa” judgment consequent to the NCERT issue and coupled with “saffronization of academic curriculum”, the rightwing ideologists did not pursue the issue professionally.

[8] Note below what Balamkund says about it! . On its part, the RSS-affiliated history research organization was not too impressed with the event. “We used to go for the event in the past, but now none of our office bearers goes. The IHCA is a communist-leaning organization,” Mukul Pandey (sic), General Secretary of the ABISY, told ET.

[9] IHC dominat ideologists manipulate the session by bringing some unassuming paper presenters to force their views on others. This they have been doing in the case of RJM controversy also, making one fellow to present a paper “Ayodhya was in Afganistan”!

[10] This way of reporting has also been biased, because during the non-BJP regimes, the members were only the “appointees” of Communist, Muslim and Congress parties. In fact, the media should be balanced enough to address the issues properly without any pre-conceived notions.

The 10th National Conference of ABISY was held at Mysore from December 24th to 26th 2015 on “Women in Indian culture: From ancient to Modern” jointly organized / sponsored by the Akhila Bharatiya Itihasa Sankalana Yojana  Centenary Celebration Committee of University of Mysore, Mysuru and Indian Council of historical reseach (hereinafter mentioned as ICHR).  As the theme attracted, some came with papers delving upon the main theme. On 23rd morning itself, about 200 delegates were there in the premises of Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Manasagangotri and they were accommodated in the hostels of Narmada, Krishna, Ganga etc. As more and more delegates started coming, they were accommodated in Terapanta Bhawan. VIP-delegates were accommodated in the University Guest House. The delegate fee of Rs. 750/- was charged and 870 were registered delegates as on 25-12-2015. The press was also briefed about it earlier[3].

ABISY - Centenary Celebration Committee of University of Mysore

ABISY – Centenary Celebration Committee of University of Mysore

Centenary Celebration Committee of University of Mysore[4]: For this, K.S Rangappa VC had appointed a centenary celebration committee. The committee consists of MPs, the former Prime Minister H.D Deve Gowda, former vice chancellors, litterateurs and other distinguished scientists[5]. After rigorous discussion the committee has come up with some projects with members of all shades of political and economic interests[6]. About the request of Rs.100 crores for the celebration and allocation of Rs.50 crires, “The Hindu” reported characteristically[7]. Even as the University of Mysore was getting ready to host its centenary celebration, the government, in a goodwill gesture, announced a grant of Rs. 50 crore for the historic fete which began on July 27, 2015, the day the university was established in 1916. The university had sought Rs. 100 crore from the government for the centenary fete. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, however, doled out Rs. 50 crore in the State Budget presented by him[8]. Expressing gratitude towards the government’s gesture, VC K.S. Rangappa said, “I thank the government for its benevolence. Actually, we had sought Rs. 100 crore from it for realising certain projects. But we are happy with the allocation.” A website was created and brochure issued[9]. Thus, among the other projects and programmes, the hosting of the Conference was included in the agenda by the Committee.

ABISY – Senate hall entrance – Inagural function

Inagural session (24-12-2015): The inaguration was held at the “Senate Hall” and there was secuirity checking, as two State Governors Karnataka HE Vajubhai Vala and Goa HE Mridula Sihna were participating. The delegates were taken to the venue from the Hostels by buses and the hall was full within half-an-hour. Sri Suresh Joshi Bhayyaji, Sarkaryavah, RSS was the guest speaker. Prof K. S. Rangappa, VC, University of Mysuru was the Chief Gust of Honour. They were waiting for the arrival of the Governors. On the stage nothing was there and the backdrop was just started putting up. The chairs were brought one by one and arranged on the stage. Three framed pictures were brought and placed on the chairs, but, they were not fittimg into, so two were removed and only one – that of Bharat Mata was accommodated in a chair. As mentioned, the programme was not started by 9.15, but by 10.15 am in a different way. The Zonal incharges of Bharatiya Itihasa Sankalana Samiti (hereinafter mentioned as BISS) were called.

ABISY - Senate hall entrance - Inagural function - secuirity check

ABISY – Senate hall entrance – Inagural function – secuirity check

Historians honoured by the organizedrs: 10.24 am: The programme was started. Each zonal incharge was asked to announce the historian selected. Thus, the following announced their respective historian as mentioned against each:

  1. Kataraia, Udaipur…………by……….
  2. Sher Singh announced………….
  3. Dilip Kumar Bhukkan announced for Assam by…………
  4. Anand Sharma (Uttaranchal)…………
  5. Rahman Ali, Ujjain was selected by………….
  6. Seernivasa Rao announced Prof A. Sundara.
  7. Anuradha (Telingana) announced Y. Sudhrshana Rao[10].

It was surprising that for the States, Seemanthra, Tamilnadu and Kerala, no historian of worth could be recognized and announced by them for honouring. It is clear that either the orgnizers or the Zonal incharge could have been so ignorant about their respective regions / States to select and nominate the historians or they did not want take such decision judiciously considering the facts. Ironically, the BISS, Tamilnadu shows many popular historians in their organization – Dr K. V. Raman, Dr R. Nagaswamy, Dr Rama Bai, Prof Dr K. M. Rao, Dr S. Kalyanaraman and others, yet the Zonal incharge could not think of anybody snd nominate nobody! Of course, there have been many-more in those states. When all were happening, many came (some important persons, scholars and elderly people) and returned, as none could recognize them or made them to seat! For instance, Tumkur University VC came and kept waiting and standing, for some time and he was not cared by anybody. Perhaps, the hall received more members to be acommodated than available seating arrangement!

Dr S Kalyana Raman lecture at IGNCA Bangalore Dec.23, 2001

Dr S Kalyana Raman lecture at IGNCA Bangalore Dec.23, 2001 – generally, he used to present on “Saraswati” related topics.

A presentation on “Sarasawati River Civilization”: 10.36 am: Inagural song was sung.

10.40 am: Welcoming the delegates, the person concluded with “Jai Hind, Jai Karnataka”!

11.01 am: Prashant Bharadwaj, Haryana Water Board, started explaining about the “Sarasawati River Civilization” with some slides, which were not at all attractive. Moreover, he was explaing in Hindi and thus evidently noot understood by the delegates coming from different states other than the Hindi speaking ones. It has to be mentioned that earlier Dr S. Kalyanaraman used to give presentation on “Sarasawati River Civilization” with many slides and lot of information, as he has been working on the subject and written many books[11].  He has published many books on the Sindhu-Saraswati civilization. Now, why he was not there was intriguing, as obviously, his absence was reveleaed through some slides used as noted.  However, it was learnt later that he had sent a PPT with many slides for presentation, but ignored by the organizers. About the differing views on “Saraswati” river, a comprehensive note can be seen here[12].

[10] It is intriguing to note that he resingned last month as the salary he demanded was not paid. While members of the ICHR contacted by The Hindu said they didn’t know any details about Prof Rao’s step, some confirmed that the Council had recommended an honorarium of Rs. 1.5-lakh per month for Prof. Rao to the government, but no decision had been taken on this yet. Significantly, the ICHR head’s position is an honorary one, for which no salary is paid.

Political and secular / communal nexus proved: The Weekly Organ of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has duly acknowledged the services of the Comrade Irfan Habib and provided details as follows: “The fact that the Convention was inaugurated by one of India’s most renowned historians and accomplished scholar, Prof Irfan Habib, by itself sent the message that the unique evolution and growth of the `idea of India’ cannot be allowed to be thwarted by the communal forces, but the people only could not identify as to who are communal and secular[1]. It added that, “Eminent historian Professor Irfan Habib presided over the Convention. Addressing the Convention, he stressed the importance of coming together of all the leaders with influence on crores of people, on a single platform against communalism. He recalled how the communal forces killed Mahatma Gandhi for trying to see that communal amity is maintained and warned that these very forces are raising their head again”, so he becomes “leader of leaders” to address and advice[2]. That is ironically, the Comrades fell down on the stage in front of everybody!

Secularism versus Communalism: So it is evident that again, the so-called debate of “Secularism-communalism” has started. Irfan Habib himself has been accused of behaving like “Communal Muslim” by none other than his old friend and Comrade M G S Narayanan. These two eminent, elite, renowned historians and accomplished scholars had fought with each other for many “historical issues” within and outside ICHR, IHC etc. In spite of their 100% pure secular brand standards, why they should have questioned the other about integrity, honesty, uprightness etc., in handing “historical affairs”. ICHR Controversy 2004 University today When they could not keep their things clean without any controversies, how they could join corrupt politicians and sit with them on the stage? None questioned how that one of the eminent, elite, renowned historians and accomplished scholars with their 100% pure secular brand standards should share with Mullayam Singh Yadav, and other politicians charged with many corruption cases?

MGS Narayanan ICHR sacked Dec 2003

Is it correct for Irfan Habib to inaugurate, attend and lecture at the Third-Front Conference: These elite, eminent and belligerent historians always cry that history should not be polluted on any account, no communalism, casteism, racism, sectarianism, medievalism,  parochialism and so on. They have been criticizing, condemning and even disparaging rightist, right wing, R S S, V H P, B J P and others as they spread communalism, communal virus, communal hatred and so on. During the IHC sessions, they have been going on posing as secular, balanced, unbiased, historian doing good for the country.

Convention for People’s Unity Against Communalism-section of the audience

Historio-politicians and politico-historians should be made accountable: In the case of politicians, now people want that they should be sanitized, cleaned and disciplined with various Acts, Rules etc. Whenever, any politician comes under the cloud, he is asked to keep him away from the politics and then come back, when, he is given clean chit. In the same way, why these blatantly political historians siding and hobnobbing with the politicians, acting agents and witnesses of communal organizations and Wakf Boards should not be asked to get out of the forums like ICHR, IHC etc., and then come, if they are cleared off of their acts of violation, contempt court proceedings, misappropriation charges etc[3].
