Online sexual grooming, luring girls with modus operandi, cyber sexual crimes: Should be taken serious and monitored!

Internet grooming

Ibrahim posing as “Siva” developed Fracebook friendship with a 13-year school girl: Accepting what seemed like an innocuous Facebook friend request ended up in a nightmare for a a 13-year-old girl from Tirupur, as the friendly stranger turned out to be a sexual predator, facebook friend for just few months, who ensnared the young teen and raped her. A 22-year-old man and a lodge manager were arrested on 01-05-2017 Monday on charges of raping a 13-year-old 8th standard schoolgirl. The man, who befriended the girl from Tirupur on Facebook, took her to Puducherry, raped her and abandoned her in a lodge. Later, the lodge manager also raped her. The arrested persons were identified as S Ibrahim, 22, of Pichampalayampudur in Tirupur and E Prabhakaran, 29, of Puducherry[1]. Police said Ibrahim was working in a textile unit in Tirupur and Prabhakaran had taken a lodge on lease more than six months ago[2].

Internet sexual grooming

The girl eloped with Ibrahim as he talked so sweetly: Lured by the 21-year-old youth’s sweet-talk, the teenager ran away with him to Chennai and then to Puducherry, where she was sexually abused for two days[3]. It is ridiculous that that the 13-year girl could be so bold enough to elope with a stranger from Tirupr to Chennai to Puducherry and accepted to stay in lodge. The girl’s harrowing tale came to light on April 29, 2017 when she reached Tirupur two days after she went missing and narrated her ordeal to her parents[4]. On April 27, the girl’s parents lodged a complaint with the Tirupur North police claiming their 13-year-old daughter had gone missing. But, what the parents were doing about her activities with phone, facebook friendship, strange behaviour and other activities. They must have watched her. Even as the sleuths were trying to trace her whereabouts, she returned on her own two days later. What the girl had to tell about the two days away from home swung the city police into action, leading to the arrest of a 21-year-old youth from Chennai and a 27-year-old man from Puducherry. Police said the girl became friends with Siva (21) on Facebook recently. Over time, Siva talked her into eloping with him and on April 27, he reached Tirupur. The girl gave her family members the slip and eloped with Siva to Chennai. After a brief stay there, Siva took her to a lodge in neighbouring Puducherry, where he allegedly raped her for two days. Ironically, though TOI mentions his name as Ibrahim, Indian Express does not, perhaps on the principles of “Secular journalism”!

Internet sexual grooming- love jihad too.jpg

The lover sold her gold chain and vanished: Later, Siva sold her gold chain weighing one sovereign, gave her the return fare to Tirupur and vanished. Really, it is interesting and intriguing to note as to how the girl could giv her chain also to the crook after all these happenings. Ibrahm should be interrogated thoroughly and his modus operandi should be ex;posed, so that the girls could be safe. Finding the girl all alone, lodge owner Prabakaran (27) befriended the girl under the guise of helping her reach Tirupur. After realising what had happened, Prabakaran too allegedly sexually abused her[5]. The girl managed to escape from the lodge and reach Tirupur with the money Siva had left her. After hearing her tale, a team of sleuths traced Siva to Chennai and arrested him on 01-05-2017 (Monday) on charges of kidnapping and raping a minor girl[6]. Another team nabbed Prabakaran from his lodge in Puducherry. Both the accused have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). After all these happenings, the media started disciurse on “online sexual grooming” and so on!

Be smart in internet-1.jpg

Online sexual grooming – definition and so on![7]: Child grooming is generally understood as the practice of befriending and forming an emotional bond with a child by a person with the objective of sexual abuse. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word ‘grooming’ was first used in connection with a paedophile in a 1985 story by Chicago Tribune which stated, “These ‘friendly molesters’ become acquainted with their targeted victim, gaining their trust while secretly grooming the child as a sexual partner.” Child grooming incidents have increased with the advent of the internet, where such incidents are increasingly taking place online, through public chatrooms and social media. In India too, such instances have been reported in the past[8].

  1. Last year, two teenagers were arrested in Kolkata for kidnapping and rape of a 15-year-old girl whom they had befriended on Facebook.
  2. Another instance of online grooming was reported in December 2016 where a teenage girl was raped by a Facebook friend in Mumbai.
  3. More recently, in January 2017, a minor girl in Cuttack alleged rape by a boy whom she had met through a social networking site.

With the proliferation of smartphone users in India, child grooming incidents can only be expected to rise in future.

Be smart in internet-2

Tulir’s discourse on Online sexual grooming[9]: As usual after some days, the analysis comes  in this way: “This is a classic case of sexual grooming,” says Vidya Reddy, of Tulir, Centre for Prevention and Healing of Child Sexual Abuse. “Abusers study a situation carefully to understand what a child’s Achilles heel is and then exploit the situation. Now, with almost every child having accesses to technology and internet in the form of a laptop or phone, these criminals have found new platforms to target children,” she adds. What Vidya explains is called online sexual grooming, a worldwide phenomenon, that has spread along with the speed and easy access to the internet. According to UNICEF, it can be defined as preparing a child or adult for sexual abuse, exploitation or ideological manipulation. A report released by the organisation in 2014 states that the surge in mobile and internet usage in India had brought 400 million people online. Of this, seven percent of internet users in the country are reportedly children. “Phones are now an extension of our hands and it has completely changed the way crime is committed and presented,” Vidya notes. Even a report of the Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology in 2014 recognized the threat posed to children by predatory paedophiles online. It emphasises how these predators “conceal their true identity whilst using the internet to ‘groom’ potential victims for sexual purposes.”

From home to horror[10]: The girl, Meena [name changed] too was unaware about the identity of the person she was chatting with. In fact, an officer told The News Minute, that it was only when Ibrahim called her on the phone that she even realised she had compromised all her data to an unknown man. But Ibrahim, as the police put it, was too smart for the girl. “He spoke to her very nicely and formed an emotional connect before she even realised the dangers of the situation,” a police officer told The News Minute. “He was just somebody who did odd jobs for a living but his real life was on Facebook. He has close to 5000 friends and they are all young girls,” she admits.

What parents and others should do?: As the issue has bee n so simple and as well as complicated in modern times, the following are suggested,  though, the modern ones might object on the grounds of “moral-policing” and so on:

  1. In schoools, moral education classes should be introduced naking them understand, realize and appreciate the moral values of family, parents, relations, respect to elders and connected issues.
  2. Of course, parents and elders should set example to their children, boys and girls and others.
  3. The studying teenage boys and girls should concentrate in studies and not in love, love-making, sex related topics.
  4. The cinema, TV, print and electronic media and connected persons should have some sort of “Social respinsibility” in their presentation of ads, news, serials etc.
  5. They should avoid negative suggestion, instread, present wth positive asppects giving good examples.
  6. Definitely, parents should watch the activities of their children, boys and girls carefully.
  7. Their extra-cautious activities should be monitored with the time-spending, money-requirement and spening, goingout on various pretexts etc.
  8. That teens from slums could kidnap and enjoy life with rich girls, autowalas, coolies and others also could join sucg fray to get girls just by wearing jeans, riding a bike, and such other iditic myths should not be promoted.
  9. The cine songs, depiction etc, should have some decency and decorum, instead of portraying the dancing actresses as whores, or they would go with anybody and indulge in sex immediately.
  10. The law enforcing auhtorities can monitor all these activities.

Can Keralite teenage girls could be raped luring with sweets and candies with all its top literacy rate and the claim of “Gods own country”?

Girls raped at Muslim orphanage 07-03-2017

Police suspect 30 girls might have been subjected to sexual abuse: Police had sent the students for medical examination on Monday night itself. A medical report on Tuesday (07-03-2017) confirmed that seven minor girls of Wayanad orphanage had been subjected to sexual abuse[1]. It is intriguing as to how the orphanage girls could have yielded to outsiders with such easy trap of offering sweets and candies. Six people have been taken into custody in connection with the incident[2] and three more are yet to be nabbed. The youngsters lured the students of the institution while they went to school. They gave them sweets and forced them to watch porn films before subjecting them to abuse[3]. They were threatened of serious repercussions if they complained, said the complaint by the administrator. Of course, there have been routine matters, whenever such incidences are reported by the media. The students are from 7th, 8th, 9th standards of the school. Though only seven students came out with complaints, police suspect that about 30 students were subjected to abuse[4]. Eleven cases were registered against the accused under various sections including under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) act. The accused will be produced before the court today 07-03-2017.

Wayanad Muslim orphanage, Muttil, google map

The orphanage (Yatheem Khana) at Muttil in Kalpetta: The girls, all in the age group of 14-15 years, were staying at the orphanage (Yatheem Khana) at Muttil in Kalpetta. Though, the media mentions it as “Yatheem Khana at Muttil in Kalpetta”, it has been pointed out specifically as the one that has been there started in 1967 and involved in financial irregularities earlier. As the WMO has many orphanages, educational institutions, commercial ventures, and other interests with political patronage and gulf-connerction, probably, the identity has been suppressed. Kerala has been ‘the God own country” and any God can do anything and ordinary men, particularly, secular Indians cannot ask anything. Now, ironically, the Communists have been ruling such “God owned country” and none knows what would happen there in coming days. The incident came to light after one of the girls was seen coming out from a nearby shop in suspicious circumstances and was questioned by a teacher. He informed the matter to orphanage staff, following which a complaint was lodged with the police, they said.

Medical report confirms rape of students of Yateen Khana

The sexual indulgences have been going on for more than two months: Police investigations revealed that the girls have been subjected to sexual harassment since January, 2017 (for two months or so)[5]. The shop is located near the orphanage and the accused used to lure the girls to the shop while they proceeded to the hostel from the orphanage[6]. So where, the girls have been subjected such sexual indulgences is also intriguing. Further, the accused threatened the girls and raped them on several occasions. This shows that the same personds and the girls are involved.  Those in custody are being interrogated by a police team headed by district police chief Rajpal Meena[7]. Any other information about the incident was not known immediately and police said more details would be shared as the probe progresses. The authorities have also arranged a counselling session for the girls[8]. Whatever may be the counselling and all, but the chastity gone is gone only and how the girls are going to overcome such trauma in coming days  is to be seen.

Yateen Khana Rape - persons close to management among the accused

Yateem Khana rape: Persons close to management among accused[9]: The investigation into the alleged sexual harassment of seven girls in a Wayanad Yateem Khana has found serious flaws on the part of orphanage management. In connection with the shocking incident that happened in the orphanage in Muttil, a police team led by Kalpetta CI has detained six persons for interrogation. Four persons have gone into hiding, according to the police.  The incident came to light on Monday evening, embarrassing the management of the orphanage that has recognition of the Social Welfare department. According to the police, the Plus One students used to go to the orphanage from their hostel rooms for prayers and other studies after 6 every day. It was during this time that the girls were threatened and forcibly taken away to be abused. This crime had been going on for the past one year and the police are trying to find out whether more persons are involved in it. The pathway from hostel rooms to the Yateem Khana is isolated without proper illumination. Allowing the students to move through this way after six without proper security has been viewed as a serious flaw from the part of the orphanage. The orphanage doesn’t subject students to counselling and it is alleged that huge money received as donations are not use for the welfare of the students. Meanwhile, there are rumours that sons of prominent members of the management are involved in the case and the police are under pressure to hush up the case to save their face.

Rape in Kerala

Rape Robin case is preceded by this Yatheem Khana continuous rape case: The incident comes close on the heels of a 16-year-old girl being allegedly raped by a church vicar at Kottiyoor in neighbouring Kannur district. The latest incident has surfaced even before the state has recovered from the shock of a rape by a priest. “It is yet another blot on the state. All child abuse cases should be fast-tracked and guilty will be given deterrent punishment,” said Mahila Congress leader Bindhu Krishna[10]. Former MP TN Seema asked the government to constitute a special investigation team to probe the latest incident. “The shocking incident is part of a big racket. The girls’ photos and videos were taken to blackmail them. A thorough probe is needed to bring all guilty to justice,” Kannur MP PK Sreemathi told reporters after visiting the orphanage on Tuesday (07-03-2017)[11]. Whether, the culprits arrested, the sexual harassment revealed, pornography videos shown, girls raped etc., have been accidental or incidental to link with the other rape Robin case, the Communist government might have tried to tag the Muslim case with that of the Catholic Christian one to prove its “secular” credentials, after all, they want votes from all.

Rape in Kerala- a woman is raped in every 6 hours

Kerala tops in literacy in India, how, then all such things could happen there?: Another shocking, and intriguing factor has been that all these things have been happening not only in the so-called “Gods own country”, but also a state with maximum  literacy. Moreover, the Keralites have been dominating the national and internation affairs in many fields. Therefore, it is unimaginable that the orphanage teenage girls could be just like that lured with sweets and candies and rape by showing pornography videos. Hown then such videos are freely available in Kerala? Who have been producing, manufacturing, distributing and selling in Kerala. The nexus of many forces is clearly visible with definite target off attacking Indian society by all means. The religious garb could be a facade only, as the ulterior motive could be different. Whether the ISIS links, terror exports, nunnery and related woman-abuses etc., have been on the increase in Kerala. Though, many times, it is said proudly that Kerala always tops in exporting nuns and nurses, the import of this type of vices raise many questions.

Why the priest of Gunadala Mary Matha Church is involved in sexploitation and it is reported selectively?

March 14, 2016

Why the priest of Gunadala Mary Matha Church is involved in sexploitation and it is reported selectively?

Mary Matha Church Gunadala, Vijayawada, where a priest is involved in sex-porn

Gunadala Mary Matha Church priest involved in sexual exploitation: The management of a Catholic church at Gunadala Mary Matha Church here, which landed in a major controversy following charges of sexual misconduct of a priest, reportedly began inquiry into the episode[1]. “The Times of India” mentions its name, whereas, “The Hindu” does not mention the name of the church involved. The roots of this case seem to be deep as the city police reportedly had to take 11 members into police custody for interrogation as on Saturday 12-03-2016[2]. The religious head had paid ransom to a gang[3]. Not satisfied with the payment, the gang demanded more money and threatened the victim, who approached the police. The priest is understood to have told the police that he paid more than Rs. 1 crore to the gang[4]. He alleged the extortionists, who befriended him, morphed his image in a pornographic film and collected money from him. “It is a fact that a gang blackmailed the religious head and extorted huge money from him. We are investigating the case from all angles,” said City Police Commissioner D. Gautam Sawang.

Mary Matha Church Gunadala, VijayawadaThe involved priest has already been accused of misappropriation of funds etc: However, the church management is inquiring into the behaviour of the religious head and his source of income. It was alleged that a portion of the funds allocated to the shrine and for the poor were misused by him. The City Task Force police collected details of the gang from the priest and rounded up many of the accused. Police are investigating why the religious head was targeted, how he was trapped and the mode of payment made to the extortion gang. Investigation officers are trying to find out whether the pornographic film was original or morphed, if so where the film was shot and the persons involved in the act, including the woman. Police collected the call data of the gangsters and are collecting scientific evidence in the case. The media has been very selective in reporting the facts, as evidently, a Catholic priest has been involved.

Mary Matha Church Gunadala, Vijayawada, where a priest is involved

The Church management is planning to replace the priest after conducting an inquiry: It is said that a follower of the religious head shared sensitive information about the priest, including his financial standing, with the gang which lured him on the pretext of offering a party a few months ago. Later, they started blackmailing him. The role of some media persons came to the fore as they took duplicate copies of the film and collected money from the priest for not telecasting his illegal activities in the news channels. “The extortion gang committed similar offences in other places in the State. We are trying to find out whether the media personnel and advocates whose phone numbers were surfaced in the call data recordings were part of the gang?” an investigation officer told The Hindu . It is learnt that the church management is planning to replace the priest after conducting an inquiry[5]. The heads of the church reportedly sought clarification from the priest on the allegations. However, nothing has been reported the version of the accused priest in the case. In fact, his name itself is not revealed.

Bomga Suresh sexual harassment APJuly 2015 incidence of sexual harassment a girl by three boys in Gunadala: In and around the Mary Matha Church, Gunadala, there have been several incidences of sexual abuses of girls as selectively reported by the media. A minor girl was reportedly subjected to sexual abuse by five youths at Bethleham Colony in Gunadala[6]. The incident came to light on Saturday. Machavaram police took three of the accused into custody, and registered a case under section 376 of the IPC. A 15-year-old girl, resident of Carmel Nagar in Gunadala, went to the Mary Matha Church along with her boyfriend. He and the four other accused are alleged to have drugged her, took her to a room in Bethleham Colony and sexually abused her for two days. Three of the accused finally dropped the girl in a semi-conscious state at her home in Carmel Nagar on July 17.2015. Her mother, employed as a sweeper by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), had by then lodged a complaint with police. She suspected the involvement of the victim’s boyfriend and his associates. The victim is a class VII dropout. Her boyfriend works at a mobile phone repair shop in Gundala. The police took her boyfriend and two of his associates into custody. They are also on the lookout for the others[7].

Bomga Suresh sexual harassment AP.2Bonga Suresh, priest involved in sexual scandal: Bonga Suresh, a pastor of a Church / parish RCM priest in Krishna district continuously harassed a woman sexually. The video gives full details, as to how he has been sexploiting the girls there. Obviously, the young woman had been threatened as it would affect the image of the church and hence she narrated her sexploitation in limited terms, but exposing the pastor. At one stage,, she was even forced to commit suicide. In fact, she informed the Bishop, but, he refused to entertain her plea, obviously for the honour of the church[8]. Though, the Church denomination is not mentioned, the involvement, sexploitation etc., are exposed thoroughly.

Pornography was discussed during the youth Christian convention, October 2015: In the National Youth Conference of the Assemblies of God in Hyderabad during October 23-25, 2012, Duke Jeyaraj talked about perils of pornography and bust the biggest excuse people use to watch porn which is, “I am watching porn to learn sex technique which I will only use inside of marriage.” Other hot topics were covered brilliantly by other experts and I thank God for each one of them[9]. Whether, it was negative suggestion or otherwise, the very discussion would lead to young people differently. Particularly, when the Indian church has been rocked by thousands of sex, rape and sexploitation cases, why such things are encouraged is not known.

The biased, prejudiced and partial reporting of the media: As many happenings have been taking place involving religious heads in different parts of India and such events are reported, commented upon and viewed by the leading TV-channels, media experts and journalists in not only print and electronic media, but also in social network, the bias in their responses is noted very easily. Much hue and cry has been made about the “World Cultural Festival” conducted on the banks of Yamuna from March 11th to 13th 2016. The private visit of temples in Andhra by Nityananda has been sensationalised by the media, meticulously repeating his 2010 incidence and all. But, a Christian priest has been involved, the way the media reports can be noted. In spite of pornography is involved, the media wants to play down and suppress the facts. It is just like the JNU porn CD issue. Here also CDs are in circulation, but, no TV channel broadcast as done in Nityananda case, why? Who imposes such restrictions? Why such partiality comes into play? Is Nityananda been different from Joseph Palanivel Jeyapaul or any other rapist, child rapist or paedophile? When he has been reinstated[10], the same media experts kept silence, they did not respond the way they do in facebook and twitter.

The Islamic sex-slavery, sensuous-harem and carnal-raping justified even in 21st century (2)!

December 31, 2015

The Islamic sex-slavery, sensuous-harem and carnal-raping justified even in 21st century (2)!

ISIL - women slaves treated, sold and sexploited.3

Harrowing stories of slavery, abuse and rape by the Islamist militants: Some rescued women have told harrowing stories of slavery, abuse and rape by the Islamist militants. They have also started selling them after exploiting[1]. Islamic State theologians have issued an extremely detailed ruling on when “owners” of women enslaved by the extremist group can have sex with them, in an apparent bid to curb what they called violations in the treatment of captured females[2]. The ruling or fatwa has the force of law and appears to go beyond the Islamic State’s previous known utterances on the subject, a leading Islamic State scholar said. It sheds new light on how the group is trying to reinterpret centuries-old teachings to justify the sexual slavery of women in the swaths of Syria and Iraq it controls. The fatwa was among a huge trove of documents captured by US Special Operations Forces during a raid targeting a top Islamic State official in Syria in May. Reuters has reviewed some of the documents, which have not been previously published. Among the religious rulings are bans on a father and son having sex with the same female slave; and the owner of a mother and daughter having sex with both. Joint owners of a female captive are similarly enjoined from intercourse because she is viewed as “part of a joint ownership.”

ISIL - women slave trade - sold

Fatwa No. 64, dated Jan. 29, 2015: Here are 15 points from the fatwa No. 64, dated Jan. 29, 2015[3], and issued by Islamic State’s Committee of Research and Fatwas[4]:

1) It is not permissible for the owner of a female captive to have intercourse with her until after she has had menstrual cycle and becomes clean.

2) If she does not menstruate and is pregnant, he is not allowed to have intercourse with her until after she has given birth.

3) It is not permissible to cause her to abort if she is pregnant.

4) If the owner of a female captive releases her, only he can have intercourse with her and he cannot allow someone else to have intercourse with her.

5) If the owner of a female captive, who has a daughter suitable for intercourse, has sexual relations with the latter, he is not permitted to have intercourse with her mother and she is permanently off limits to him. Should he have intercourse with her mother then he is not permitted to have intercourse with her daughter and she is to be off-limits to him.

6) The owner of two sisters is not allowed to have intercourse with both of them; rather he may only have intercourse with just one. The other sister is to be had by him, if he were to relinquish ownership of the first sister by selling her, giving her away or releasing her.

7) If the female captive is owned by a father, his son cannot have intercourse with her and vice-versa. Moreover, intercourse with his wife’s female captive is also not permissible.

8) If a father had intercourse with his female captive then gave her away or sold her to his son, he is no longer permitted to have intercourse with her.

9) If the female captive becomes pregnant by her owner, he cannot sell her and she is released after his death.

10) If the owner releases his female captive then he is not permitted to have intercourse with her afterwards because she has become free and is no longer his property.

11) If two or more individuals are involved in purchasing a female captive, none of them are permitted to have sex with her because she is part of a joint ownership.

12) It is not permissible to have intercourse with a female captive during her menstrual cycle.

13) It is not permissible top have anal sex with a female captive.

14) The owner of a female captive should show compassion towards her, be kind to her, not humiliate her and not assign her work she is unable to perform.

15) The owner of a female captive should not sell her to an individual whom he knows will treat her badly or do unto her what Allah has forbidden.

ISIL - women slaves treated, sold and sexploited

Islamic theologian says, the fatwa is unislamic: Professor Abdel Fattah Alawari, dean of Islamic Theology at Al-Azhar University, a 1,000-year-old Egyptian center for Islamic learning, said Islamic State “has nothing to do with Islam” and was deliberately misreading centuries-old verses and sayings that were originally designed to end, rather than encourage, slavery[5]. “Islam preaches freedom to slaves, not slavery. Slavery was the status quo when Islam came around,” he said. “Judaism, Christianity, Greek, Roman, and Persian civilizations all practiced it and took the females of their enemies as sex slaves. So Islam found this abhorrent practice and worked to gradually remove it.” In September 2014 more than 120 Islamic scholars from around the world issued an open letter to IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi refuting the group’s religious arguments to justify many of its actions[6]. The scholars noted that the “reintroduction of slavery is forbidden in Islam.” Though such explanation, interpretation and elucidation are given, in Islam, everybody or group that dominant prevails in imposing their view as accepted law. In Islam, any dominant group declares the other as “kafirs” and start jihad within themselves also. Ultimately, the sufferers have been women of the world, wherever, these fundamentalist jihadis gain control. There have been many suffered women telling about their experience, which cannot be erased with any interpretation of theology.

isis-sells-women-being-sold-in-mosul

Islamic sexploitation modernized as terror also modernized: In Islamic law, muta marriage is prevalent to have any woman under legally wed status for any period. In fact, as that “period” is not defined or fixed, women can be married, had sexual relations and disposed of within minutes or hours according to their requirements. After usage one can legally divorce, so that she is free to get married under muta with another one and so on. Thus, prostitution is legalized. That one can have wives up to four instill sexual urge in every Muslim or even non-Muslim, as very such thinking could rouse man. Here, also they can be divorced and keep new ones maintaining the limit. Thus, psychologically, Muslim men look at women with such mindset, particularly, when they become more knowledgeable about Quran, Hadis and shariat. They could easily find out loopholes to legalize their sexual acts f any nature with interpretation citing precedence. Thus, the sexploitation has been a never-ending process accompanied with trafficking, slavery and harem, in all periods and only varies in the modern context. When this could be the position of ordinary Muslim, the sexual rights of dominant ISIL terrorist cannot be imagined. So when he puts into practice, he excels the “Boko Haram”.

ABISY - inagural function Suresh Joshi Bhayyaji, Sarkaryavah, RSS was the guest speakerThe speech of Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi: 12.25 pm: The 10th national conference of the Akhil Bharatiya Itihasa Sankalana Yojana began here on Thursday with RSS general secretary Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi finding fault with the tradition of confining women to household work[1]. Talking in Hindi, he said, family system was the root of the country, that should be protected by ensuring education, health and safety of womenfolk. Delineating on the need to set right the history of the country, Joshi said, the samiti has taken up many works to introduce the core strength of the country to the people. “While Aryans were indigenous people of India, Britishers falsely propagated that they came from outside. The truth was established after researching deep into the issue. The origin of Sindhu-Saraswati River has been traced”, added Joshi[2]. Addressing the gathering at the inaugural of the conference titled ‘Woman in Indian culture through the ages’ by the yojana, Mr. Joshi said there was a need for women to emerge from the confines of their homes and assume roles in industry, education, politics and other spheres of life. If a country were to achieve progress economically, socially and geographically, there was a need to empower women, he said emphasising the importance of creating awareness on the issue. He also said women should populate not only the army, but also the air force and navy. While favouring bringing Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and various adivasis into the mainstream, who he said “may be weak, but not unwise”, Mr. Joshi said that issues relating to rural and tribal women, who comprise 70 per cent of women, should be brought on the agenda of the discussions. He called for the need to establish a just society on the basis of equality that is free from western influence. Mr. Joshi emphasised the need to present correct history. Research helped bust the myth that Aryans had invaded India before the Mughals and the British. That Aryans were not foreigners, but were locals, had been proved by scientific evidence, he claimed[3].

Goa Governor Mridula Sinha speaking at the ABISYs 10th national conference in Mysuru on Thursday 24-12-2015-PHOTO- M.A. SRIRAMWhat HE Mridula Sihna Goa spoke: 12.50 to 1.15 pm: HE Mridula Sihna Goa spoke in Hindi. Referring to the practice among a section of the women to avoid bearing children, Goa Governor Mridula Sinha described motherhood as nature’s best gift to a woman[4]. Speaking after inaugurating the national conference organised by the Akhila Bharatiya Itihasa Sankalana Yojana here on Thursday, Ms. Sinha said that she still advises her daughter against forgetting to serve her husband his food even if she does not have the time to cook[5]. “But, never should a woman go hungry,” she said. Also, she went on to say that it was important for men to discuss women’s issues[6]…………the three-day meet should discuss the relevance of nature, culture and decency as they are inter-connected with each other. While nature remains intact after being created, the Indian culture is largely dependent on the nature.Describing motherhood as god’s gift to womenfolk, Sinha regretted that new-age women were avoiding motherhood, that was once protected and preserved, equally contributing to the welfare of the society[7].

6.Shri-Vajubhai-Rudabhai-Vala-Governor-of-Karnataka-inaugurated10th-National-Conference-on-Woman-in-Indian-Culture-through-the-AgesHE Vajubhai Vala spoken on the conference: 1.16 to 1.23 pm: HE Vajubhai Vala Karnataka spoke in Hindi. Governor Vajubhai Vala, who presided over the event, said that women, who play a strong role inside their houses, should display their strength even outside. Though he regretted the delay in the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill that seeks to set aside 33 per cent of the seats in Parliament and State Assemblies, Mr. Vala said that many women are now occupying powerful posts in the bureaucracy. ….Women nowadays have taken a lead in many fields, with 70 per cent women bagging top honours on the academic front[8]. Most importantly, it’s women who inculcate culture among children. Be it any women, men should ensure their safety and security[9].On the role of women in politics, Vala said, there are examples of women leaders occupying top posts like president and prime minister in India, while in western countries it is more common to see women leaders occupying key positions. Thus, the entire inagural session was carried on in Hindi. After lunch, the paper-reading session started in different rooms of the building situated next to library. The Kannda and Sanskrit sessions were arranged seperately, whereas, the Hindi and English papers were mixed together and the paper-presenters, particularly, those who presented in English could find difficult, as their papers were interpersed between many Hindi papers.

3.Shri-Vajubhai-Rudabhai-Vala-Governor-of-Karnataka-inaugurated10th-National-Conference-on-Woman-in-Indian-Culture-through-the-Ages25-12-2015 (Friday): Paper reading session. Most of the papers were in Hindi and the delegates who did not know Hindi could not understand what was presented. They felt they missed important information, data and information that might have been contained in such presentation. And many papers were in the form of “articles” and not of the nature of “reseach paper”. The emphasis made the title and the sub-themes made the presenters to repeat, duplicate and even rehash the same points, aspects and subject matter. Of course, the “cut and paste” methodology was also noted and pointed out by the organizers themselves.

2.30 to 4.40 pm: General Body Meeting of ABISY.

5.00 to 7.40 pm: Visit to Mysuru palace lightning.

ABISY 10th National Conference inagurated by Mysuru-Goa Governors-Deccan Herald26-12-2015 (Saturday): Paper reading session continued with the same conditions pointed out above. Had the papers been scrutinized properly, such things could not have been occurred. The corrections, modifications and rewriting could have been intimated so that the quality of paper presentation could have been maintained. Such exercise would be useful and educative for budding researchers in paper preparation and presentation. Women paper presenters had not addressed the issues, problems faced by the Indian women. Some women appeared to have felt that “they are happy” and therefore, other “women are also happy”.  Most of the woman paper presenters had not been aware of the current issues dealt with in India in different spheres and thus, papers had been of “glorification of the past” nature. Even in the globalization context also, though only few papers were presented, they had been in a dilemma as to whether to point out the positive aspects or the negative aspects that affect the Indian society.

ABISY - paper presentation, discussion going onWhy papers deviated much away from the theme taken for the conference: The hospitality had been excellent, but, unfortunately, the academic proceedings had been marred by some inherent factors. The subject matter of the whole proceedings was to concentrate on women-issues focussing on the current relating to ancient moral values. The first circular declared that the central subject proposed was “Women in Indian culture: From ancient to present” adding that research papers were also invited on the following topics such as –

  1. Historiography
  2. History in the Puranas
  3. Vaavasi (Tribal) history
  4. District history
  5. Miscellaneous (Archaeology, inscriptions, numismatics, art and architectue, spread of Indian culture abroad etc)

But, the Second circular still enlarged the topics deviating from the women and women-issues givilng the list as follows:

  1. Origin of Indian culture and women
  2. Women in Saraswati-Sidhu civilization.
  3. Women in epic-age
  4. Women in Puranas
  5. Women in Jaina-Buddhist period.
  6. Women in Mauryan and post-Mauryan period.
  7. Women in Gupta and post-Gupta period
  8. Women depicted in indian art / performing art, paintings, wooden, terracota, stone and metallic art / folklore, music, dance etc.
  9. Women in folk tradition and culture
  10. Women in medieval age.
  11. Role of women in freedom struggle
  12. Globalization and Indian women

Other general topics are also as follow:

  1. Historiography
  2. History in the Puranas
  3. Vaavasi (Tribal) history
  4. Regional history

Other Academic subjects:

Archaeology, Epigraphy, numismatics, art and architectue, Indian culture.

The final circular dated 16-10-2015 repeated the above. Thus, the circulars deviated from the theme of the conference, with the diverged subjects and digressing from the idea of the subject matter conceived. Accordingly, the paper-presenters, particularly, the majority of the casual-types had taken full liberty to take any subject and came with “hurried-haste-rehassed” stuff that was criticized by the organizers and the sectional presidents. As they seperated Sanskrit and Kannda paper presentation, Hindi paper presentation or the English paper presentation could have been held seperately. As most of the paper presenters did not follow any “style-sheet” and research methodology, they can be taught about. Incidentally, as ABISY and BISSs have been working on “history writing and re-writing”, they should conduct some workshop for their “paper-presenters” as to how to prepare a reasearch paper. They should be asked to attend IHC, SIHC etc., to listen to historians, interact with others and get experience.

Valedictory function: The valedictory funstion was held at the A.V. Hall without any lack lusture and the same speakers again dwelt upon the same issues in the same manner. Again, the entire ritual was in Hindi. Instead of getting opinion from the delegates about the academic conduct of the conference, it was wound up in a much routine manner. When a particular person was speaking “over-enthusiastically”, the audience started clapping several times. Instead of getting the hint, he continued to talk with spirit provoking them to clap again. There was no indication as to when the 11th National Conference would be held after three years in 2018.

Dignified dress, Indian women, Media’s role and the apology of the MP who pleaded for the cause!

August 9, 2014

Dignified dress, Indian women, Media’s role and the apology of the MP who pleaded for the cause!

TDP PMs remarks about the dress of Indian women

TDP PMs remarks about the dress of Indian women

Murli Mohan Maganti Telugu Desam Party MP, while discussing on the safety of women, opined his views about wearing decent dress. The media reported it as follows:

·         Deccan Chronicle says[1], “TDP member Murali Mohan ‘advises’ women to dress properly, sparks controversy………….”;

·         Zee News declares[2], “TDP MP makes sexist remark in Parliament, later apologises”, While none of the media either print or electronic has given the full version of what was read in the Parliament, most of the media mentioned only part of the following line picked up from his speech, as if he talked something nonsence or serious or sexist comments as interpreted, “……to uphold the tradition of our Indian culture, I would earnestly appeal to all my sisters, daughters and girls to dress dignifiedly,”

·         The Business Standard added the following[3], “I would appeal to brothers to treat every woman as his own family member,” he said. “This would be a tribute to mother India.”

·         Odhisha Times also carried these sentences[4].

·         IBNlive says[5], “TDP MP makes sexist remarks in Lok Sabha, says women should dress in a ….”. India Today has its version[6].

·         Deccan Chronicle[7] agains came with that “Twitterati slams TDP MP Murali Mohan Maganti over his women remark”.

The reporter was virtually forcing him to react: The conversation between the TV reporter and the MP appeared dramatic, as a viewer could not understand what was wrong in the speech of the MP.

Sir, you said like that, can you define what do you mean by “dignified dress”?

I read agaid what I read in the Parliament, re-read from the paper in his hands as follows:: “I endlessly appeal to daughters, sisters and girls of the country to dress in a dignified way and uphold the tradition of Indian culture. I appeal to my brothers to treat every girl as a family member and treat her with respect. This will be a great tribute to Mother India. India has had a special place across the world for its culture.” Here, what is offending, indecent and shocking to women is intriguing.

Indian women dress comments apology etc

Indian women dress comments apology etc

Dignified dress means Indian dress and not modern.

Can you say that modern dress is not dignified?

Nodded in affirmative.

But, your comments are not offending women?

If offending, I wittdraw them?

But, the women are offended.

If my comments are bothering them, I apololize to them.

Shobha Oza, the President of All India Women Congress (AIWC) responded sas usual that the men were trying to advice about the dress and all and that was not necessary.

Criticism of the statement made by the TDP MP: The Women’s rights activists and women political leaders called the statement really immature.

Actor and YSRC politician Roja said that Mr Murali Mohan was making big and intellectual statements though he had been an actor all his life.

“What does he mean by dignified?: A sari exposes more than a jeans with a t-shirt. It is up to a woman what she wants to wear. Being a hero and a producer, what drove him to make such a comment? He is a full time commercial hero and this shows double standards. He is simply making big and intellectual statements, whereas his movies have portrayed much more stuff.”

Social media too poked fun at the actor-turned MP. Netizens questioned what he meant by the term “dignified” and asked why rapes of minor girls were being reported in the country.

Displaying a medieval mindset: Shabbir kD þ@shabbirkd wrote: “Our MPs are displaying a medieval mindset. No wonder they cannot protect our women.”

An extra inch of visible flesh causes them to rape..!!: aastha chauhan þ@aasthachauhan27: “Really..? An extra inch of visible flesh causes them to rape..!! Well, this is more an insult to MEN than women…”

better rules & regulations & respect for women, not lectures:  Siva Kumar Raju þ@iamsivaji: “Does he really care about women? if he did, he might have demanded better rules & regulations & respect for women, not lectures

MP does not stand up against such sexism: MnM þ@McSpare: “If our elected women MPs will not stand up against such sexism in the Lok Sabha who else will?”

Should women opt for designing dress?: Afaq Alam Ansari þ@Afaq_404: “Should opt for designing dresses for women if they show their incompetence as MP by stating such comments.”

If man can wear anything, why not women?: Indi Patriot þ@theindipatriot: A sari is so much more peek a boo than a full t-shirt and jeans…but then they say a man sees what he wants to.”

Dress should not be obscene: Jeevitha Rajashekar, former actor and BJP leader said, “It is completely a personal choice of women. We know how to dress decently. He should not say that they should not wear modern clothes. He did not follow what he said in his acting carrier. I believe that every person should wear what they are comfortable in and it should not be obscene be it either men or women.”

The comments were idiocy: Vasanth Kannabiran, Founder member, Asmita Collective for Women said, “This is pure idiocy. It is very troubling on how this whole thing is going on about women and their way of living. Are they trying to go back in the dark ages? The MP needs to go back and get some education. Does he even know about equality? What are his qualifications? He is thinking 60-years backward. They should be penalised for speaking like this as this is directed to a whole bunch of people. How do these people talk with such insensitive and casual attitude? They know they can get away with it and more than half will agree with what he said. But, if one is punished, the next will learn. This is total impunity.”

What the responses show: If the responses are put together, the following points draw attention.

  1. What does he mean by dignified?
  2. Displaying a medieval mindset
  3. An extra inch ofvisible flesh causes them to rape..!!
  4. better rules & regulations & respect for women, not
  5. MP does not stand up against such sexism
  6. Should women opt for designing dress?
  7. If man can wear anything, why not women?
  8. Dress should not be obscene.
  9. The comments were idiocy.

No doubt, girls, young ladies and women have every right to wear any dress of their choice or othyerwise and none could advise them. As for as the mode of dress in the context of rape, many times, some police officers, women activists and others have come up with the idea of “women wearing decent dress”. But every time, they have been questioned, objected to and pressurize to change their opinion by the media. Here also the MP has expressed his views very politely, carefully and sensitively with all respect to women. Yet, the media played it differently and the activists responded in its line. One has to wait and see, who would be the real gainder in such sensitive issues affecting the honour of Indian women.

Critics do not offer positive or constructiove criticium or ideas, but other critics are condemned: At one side conservative, moderate and conventional views, responses and opinions have always been condemned, criticized and even disparaged. The aggressive criticism agains them has been so severe that even others have been silenced to opine asbout the issue. Many times their voices are silenced or the opinions edited and suppressed. However, the criticizers have not come out with any ideas to curb the menace of raping of women in India. Particularly, in the context of Meerut, a communal factor is found and it affects the thinking processes of all. Moreover, such phenomena is also associated with some global portent factors, it is downplayed or distracted and diverted also. The disease is not pathologically analyzed, but the commentators are attacked, observers threatened and critics silenced.
