Suhashini Raj, not a devotee, but, a journo: In the case of Suhashini Raj, NDTV reported[1], “On Day 2 [18-10-2018, Thursday] of the Sabarimala temple opening, Suhasini Raj, a Delhi-based New York Times reporter who said she was not a devotee, began to trek uphill who got past Pamba base camp had to abort just before the lag leg of the trek to the shrine after protesters formed a human wall before her. According to the reporter[2], “the protesters had thrown stones, forcing the two journalists to return” but, it was false and the NDTV has no along with her colleague”, adding, “Suhasini Raj, who is a Delhi-based journalist, along with her colleague, a foreign national, managed to go past the Pamba gateway but was stopped midway by angry Sabarimala devotees”. Here, NDTV suppressed the fact that her college isa foreigner. The two journalists guts to tell the truth that she went there by telling lies. In fact, one person has videographed her trek that exposes her intent. Since the Sabarimala temple opening, at least 12 women have attempted the 20-km trek to the hilltop shrine starting at the Nilakkal base camp, but none of these women were successful.

Rehana Fathima Pyarijaan Sulaiman[3]: Rehana was brought up in an orthodox Muslim family and attended a madarassa[4]. “I used to wear the hijab and do namaz five times a day,” she says. Things changed after her father died when she was in Class 12[5]. She is known for her angst over a male professor’s comments on the students’ breasts[6]. The professor compared them to watermelons and further advised girls to cover themselves since they attract men.  In protest to this, Rehana Fathima, a 31-year-old BSNL government employee, she posed nude with watermelons[7]. The model and activist from Kochi received massive backlash for the same[8]. However, she explained that this was needed because she wanted “to question the restrictions regarding a woman baring her body”, as per a report in The Times of India. She was also a part of several other movements of dissent. Fathima was the first woman to participate in the traditional Onam tiger dance in 2016, Thrissur Pulikali, that is traditionally done by all-male troupes. She has also been a part of the Kiss of Love campaign against moral policing in 2014, as per TOI. Fathima had earlier posted a picture of her wearing the ‘mala’ on Facebook with a single word caption: “Philosophy”. After Fathima tried to enter the Sabarimala temple today, her house in Kochi was vandalised soon after but two unidentified people. Rehana now lives with her filmmaker partner Manoj, their two daughters and his parents. Manoj has produced the art film, and her debut movie, Eka about intersex people.

Kavitha Jakkal – online journo[9]: Kavitha Jakkal, a reporter from Hyderabad working with Mojo TV Telugu as a nes-presenter-cum-reporter, was one who was accompanying Fathima as the police escorted them to the gates of Lord Ayyappa’s shrine. She also wore a bulletproof jacket as they walked from Pamba to Sannidhanam. She had earlier said that she won’t return before the darshan. However, the two women were forced to return afterward as their security was threatened by an agitating crowd of devotees.  The CEO of Mojo TV, Revathi Pogadadanda, took to Twitter soon after the incident and said that her team of journalists including Kavitha, Balakrishna and Narasing were going on an indefinite hunger strike.  “They r fighting for their right. They are fighting for what the #SupremeCourt said. Don’t take this country back to medieval ages! Let the law live,” she wrote[10]. In a statement to the media, Kavitha said[11]: “I am a journalist, doing my duty. By religion, I am a Hindu. I am here to cover the implementation of the Supreme Court judgment. I have been arrested and forcibly taken to the airport. I can see the SC judgment was not implemented due to pressure. I condemn the way I was restricted. A journalist not being able to discharge her duty is nothing, but a weakness of the system. I thank the Kerala government and police for giving immense support to us. We could not complete the journey since anti-social elements have put children and the elderly in the line of fire. Given a chance, I will return to Sabarimala to offer prayers and I will come back to do my duty too.” In Hyderabad, several rightwing activists stormed the MOJO TV office in Banjara Hills and raised slogans against Kavitha[12].

Mary Sweety- Catholic woman [13]: Another woman, Mary Sweety, tried to enter the temple but was forced to return soon after. Mary Sweety told reporters that “her body was full of divine power motivating her to climb”, as per a report in The News Minute. A 46-year-old woman from Kerala’s Kazhakkottam, she said she wanted to witness the deity at least once. However, she had to return midway after she was stopped by a group of protesting devotees.  “I don’t know about them (journalist Kavitha Jakkal & woman activist Rehana Fatima). If women have returned, it is your drawback. I want to go there,” she said[14]. Kavitha Jakkal and Rehana Fathima were just metres away from the entry of the temple before they were stopped by protesting devotees and priests. Devotees outside Lord Ayyappa’s shrine have blocked the entry gates while the head priest Kandarau Rajeevaru has decided to lock the temple and hand over the keys in view of the protests.

The dubious women were given protection, but, the devotees made to suffer: On Friday [10-10-2018], three women – an online journo Kavitha Jakkal from Hyderabad, activist Rehana Fathima from Kochi and Mary Sweety from Thiruvananthapuram – reached Pamba to trek to Sannidhanam. Though a special police team led by Inspector General S Sreejith escorted both Rehana Fathima and Kavitha to Sannidhanam, the women were asked to return to Pamba after a group of devotees blocked their entry at Nadapandhal at Sannidhanam chanting Swami Saranam. When Mary Sweety reached Pamba and decided to trek to Sannidhanam, police dissuaded her explaining about the volatile situation and safely escorted her back to Pathanamthitta. It was intriguing to note that how these media women with such shady back ground were given uniform, protection etc., when the devotees were disturbed. Moreover, how the two women followed the “Mandala vratam,” who initiated etc. were also not known. Therefore, how ridiculous it was that they police to accompany them! Indian Express went on to argue, “While the state police are legally bound to give protection to women coming to Sabarimala for darshan following the Supreme Court verdict, they are now giving top priority to the law and order situation at Sabarimala.

The Three- mohammedan and christians created problem witth police

Police to verify the background of the women, who want to enter the temple[15]: With Devaswom Minister Kadakkampilly Surendran on Friday [10-10-2018] making it clear that no forceful action will be taken to evict the protesting devotees at Sannidhanam, things have become much clear that the police won’t use force on the devotees blocking the entry of women to Sabarimala”. But the fact is, the police not  only lathi-charged, but also damaged many vehicles marked by the side. The Minister also made it affirmative that they won’t allow anyone to make use of the situation to hurt the sentiments of the devotees and convert Sabarimala into a war zone. He was referring to Rehana Fathima, a known activist, who made an attempt to enter Sabarimala. Senior police officers said they have been directed to verify the background of the women devotees who are reaching Pamba to proceed to Sannidhanam during this volatile situation. “Intelligence wing will be tracking the developments as there will be people with vested interests to make use of this vulnerable situation and flare up things for communal violence,” a top police officer said[16]. So why it was done for the three or four women is intriguing.

, Sabarimala -the Five judges

The split judgment of Sabarimala and the haste politics of Communists leading to complications: The Supreme Court has announced that women of all ages could enter Sabarimala Iyyappan Temple in its judgment delivered on September 28, 2018. It has been a split judgment, as one of the five judges differed with the others[1]. Evidently, the Supreme Court or the four judges have not gone into the details of the temple, its tradition and connected rituals. Also, they have not considered the other provisions of the Constitution, where, various religious sects and denominations could maintain their own temples, belief system etc., without affecting others. That Sabarimala temple and devotees have been maintaining their position for hundreds of years has been proven by its existence and continuing traditions. As this has been the condition, the scene created, definitely by few, has been condemnable, as Sabarimala is not a place of picnic, activism or politics.Therefore, the few women, that too, non-Hindus, journalists and TV crew to go there and create problem, affecting the devotees, who have been going there with the vow, proves the pre-planned attack on the Sabarimala devotees, under the guise of law. Evidently, the Kerala government, now headed by the Communists have stated exploiting it as an opportunity to disturb and wound the sentiments of the devotees, by applying the police force, as evident from the happenings.

, Sabarimala -Ayyappa Saranam

Sabarimala movement has given space for all: Sabarimala movement, in the sense, that it gives equality to all without any discrimination, particularly for men, has been grown phenomenally, attracting many. Of late, rich people, actors and others started going there. Generally, poor people, labourers, workers, auto drivers and others used to go there, as they used to start their nonbu / penance during Kartigai month. Thus, it is very much similar to Varkari movement that drew lakhs of devotees spontaneously[2]. During their vow period, they do not take non-veg food, drink, smoke etc., and thus, they follow “brahmacharya” as a “kannisami” viz. young male devotee of virtues. They feel pride, as all others call them as “Sami” with respect. Of course, young and old women going there has been a regular feature and none took it differently……Thus, all have been going on well for so many years, but, in 2018, it has become a big issue. Ironically, instead of real woman-devotees, as they respected the tradition and do not want to violate, in spite of the judgment, few non-Hindu women, that too, journalists tried to enter with police force affecting the sentiments of crores of Hindus. How many of Indians would have red 411 pages judgments is also not known.

, Sabarimala -Indu Malhothra

It is not dissent judgement, but, people’s judgment: The Judge, Indu Malhothra, has summarized her order as follows: “The summary of the aforesaid analysis is as follows:

 

(i) The Writ Petition does not deserve to be entertained for want of standing. The grievances raised are non-justiciable at the behest of the Petitioners and Intervenors involved herein.

 

(ii) The equality doctrine enshrined under Article 14 does not override the Fundamental Right guaranteed by Article 25 to every individual to freely profess, practise and propagate their faith, in accordance with the tenets of their religion.

 

(iii) Constitutional Morality in a secular polity would imply the harmonisation of the Fundamental Rights, which include the right of every individual, religious denomination, or sect, to practise their faith and belief in accordance with the tenets of their religion, irrespective of whether the practise is rational or logical.

 

(iv) The Respondents and the Intervenors have made out a plausible case that the Ayyappans or worshippers of the Sabarimala Temple satisfy the requirements of being a religious denomination, or sect thereof, which is entitled to the protection provided by Article 26. This is a mixed question of fact and law which ought to be decided before a competent court of civil jurisdiction.

 

(v) The limited restriction on the entry of women during the notified age group does not fall within the purview of Article 17 of the Constitution.

 

(vi) Rule 3(b) of the 1965 Rules is not ultra vires Section 3 of the 1965 Act, since the proviso carves out an exception in the case of public worship in a temple for the benefit of any religious denomination or sect thereof, to manage their affairs in matters of religion.

 In light of the aforesaid discussion and analysis, the Writ Petition cannot be entertained on the grounds enumerated hereinabove. It is ordered accordingly”, thus, passed the judgment. Hence, it is not any dissent judgment, but, people’s judgment and perhaps, God’s judgment!

With obvious politicization of the issue, the Temple authorities and the Kerala government have decided not to appeal against or file revision petition. Contrary, the Hindus of Kerala have started their protests in a large scale in peaceful manner. Thousands of women came on the roads and marched towards Government offices with the pictures of Ayyappa and banners questioning the judgment that affects their devotion and tradition. On 03-10-2018 [Wednesday], more than 20,000 devotees marshalled through social media, mostly women, held a protest march in Pandalam, headquarters of an erstwhile royal family that once governed the temple. The leading Malayalam daily, Malayala Manorama, carried a front-page picture of the march but Mathrubhumi came under attack for carrying a report on an inside page and without a picture. About the downplying of this event the media groups themselves were divided, because of the government pressure[3]. The entry of Nair Service Society (NSS), a socio-culture organisation of the influential upper-caste community has only added steam to the protests. The NSS also happens to be the first to decide on filing a review petition against the judgement[4]. As usual, the ruling Communist and Congress parties started accusing BJP, RSS and other right wing organizations for such upsurge, but, the fact has been different, as the Left wing media groups have been heavily anti-Hindu affecting the sentiments. Thus, ironically, the few women Mohammedan, Christian and secular categories came and started the communalization of the issue. These have been the credentials and back ground of the women who started creating problem.

L. S. Libi atheist posing as a devotee with dress!: The NDTV reported that[5]C.S. Libi, Christian posed as a Hindu, was among the first to attempt the trek to the shrine on the day the temple gates were to open. Days before her visit, she had posted her plan on Facebook. The protesters had apparently seen her post and decided to block her the moment she reached a bus stand in Pathanamthitta, 65 km from the temple. The police had shielded her from a group of protesters who had surrounded her at the bus stop. They threatened to burn the bus if it drove towards the temple’s base camp, news agency IANS had reported.” But, the event was videographed ny many and she had to return, because of her contradicting answers and encounter she had with women devotees and others at the bus-stand[6]. Another woman, Libi CS, was arrested at a bus stop by worshipers who accused her of wearing jeans[7]. “This is how a lady should go to the temple.” She claims to have observed penance, but if you look at the pearls of the Sabarimala necklace, it is very clear that she has worn it today. “Yesterday or yesterday, it is not acceptable to us and she will not be allowed to go there,” said a group of angry female protesters. Libi CS, a journalist, posted on Facebook her plan to visit Sabarimala Temple. The protesters apparently saw her post and decided to block her as soon as she arrived at a bus station in Pathanamthitta, 65 meters from the temple. “Friends, we are leaving all four for Sabarimala today, which includes atheists like me and two devotees,” said Libi’s Facebook message[8].

2018 – drama of visiting Srirangam for Durga: Again in June 21-22, 2018, he visited Srirangam in connection with party functions, as arranged by the DMK cadres. He visited the house of IUML leader, K. M. Khader Mohideen, to enquire about his ailing wife Hajiyani Lathiba Begum. Then he visited Padmasali Mantap to attend some function. On his way, at the Srirangam temple, he was welcomed by Sundar Bhattar and others, opposite to Ranga Gopuram. Ironically, he was given a silk shawl and one priest affectionately put the holy paste on his forehead, but, lo, this man wiped out it with the same shawl! This shocked not only the innocent priests, as could noted from the photographs, but also by other onlookers. They welcomed with “Purnakumbam,” and honored through an elephant garlanding him.  On behalf of Ahobila mutt also, he was honoured[1]. When they asked to come inside the temple, he flatly refused[2] with usual facial expression frowning. To clear all doubts, “Nakkeeran,” the pro-DK-DMK magazined recorded that just to satisfy the wish of Durga, his wife only, he did all these antics[3]. Only K. N. Nehru’s wife used to accompany, this time either she joined him or he took her. In any case, the DMK cadres told, he came just to satisfy and fulfill her wishes[4]. In any case, it is clear that he conducted such dramas to fool others, particularly, the gullible Hindus.

Karunanidhi declared, “Hindu is a thief” in October 2002, case filed[5]: The Chennai city police had registered the first information report against the former Chief Minister and DMK president, M. Karunanidhi, for his speech at an October 24 2002 minorities’ meeting here, which, a complainant said, wounded the religious feelings of Hindus. The police acted on the complaint filed by, R. Premnath, an advocate of Chepauk, before XIV metropolitan magistrate[6]. The court forwarded the complaint to the Egmore police station. Accordingly, the police registered a case for offences under Section 295-A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 298 IPC (Uttering words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings) and taken up a probe.  The complainant said at the meeting held at St.Andrew Church, Egmore, to protest the legislation preventing forcible conversions, the former Chief Minister spoke with the “deliberate intention to outrage the feelings of Hindus, to get applause and support from the gathering to undermine and wantonly insult the Hindus”. Karunanidhi had said, “Who is a Hindu? A good man would say the word `Hindu’ means a thief”. The word used by him showed “his deliberate intention of wounding the religious feelings of Hindus”. He did not tender any apology. The complainant said the DMK chief  “identified himself as a rationalist, but changes his colours at public meetings to satisfy the gathering”. The Police Commissioner ought to have taken suo motu action against Karunanidhi for insulting the Hindu religion and feelings of Hindus. But neither the police nor the Government took action,  Premnath said.

When Karunanidhi called Ramayana “fiction” (2007): In 2007, he famously came down hard on ‘communal forces’ for using the ‘myth’ of Ram Sethu to stall the Sethusamudram project and had famously said[7]: “Who is this Raman (as Lord Ram is referred to in Tamil)? In which engineering college did he study and become a civil engineer? When did he build this so-called bridge? Is there any evidence for this?” On the withdrawal of the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project – to create a shipping route in the shallow straits between India and Sri Lanka, he had said: “The withdrawal of the affidavits does not mean that the project is being withdrawn,” Karunanidhi told reporters at Yercaud near Salem. “If it amounts to the project itself being shelved, then the DMK, which adheres to scientific, rational and progressive ideals, will not accept it.” He went on to call Ramayana a piece of fiction that represented the conflict between Aryans and Dravidians.This had led BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad to retort: “We would like to know from Karunanidhi if he would make a similar statement against religious head of any other religion; chance are he may not.”He even went on to claim Ram was a drunkard and he was quoting Valmiki’s Ramayana. Pointing out that the Constitution didn’t bar his remarks, he had said[8]: “I have not hurt anyone by my remarks. Expressing the views which are already in writing cannot be termed as wounding the sentiments of somebody else. The DMK has never done anything which would hurt the sentiments of either the Hindus or anybody else and the party would not do so in the future.”

Karunanidhi playing Ravana (1998): On October 1, 1998, Anoor Jagadeesan, president of PDK and 16 others were arrested when they tried to burn the effigies of Rama and Lakshmana in Chennai[9]. On October 18, 1998, Karunanidhi asserted that, “….if you insult Ravana, you are insulting me”. Quoting from Jawaharlal Nehru’s Discovery of India, the septuagenarian politician pointed out that the epic is all about the Aryan-Dravidian struggle for supremacy[10]. Karunanidhi’s speech was a throwback to some of his earlier film scripts when he brought this struggle to the fore through subtle messages that bypassed the scrutiny of censors. In Ramasethu issue also, he passed remarks asking “In which engineering college Rama studied” (so that he could build a bridge). Even, Kamal Hasan also used to utter that he came from Ravan genealogy or something like that!

EVR, Anna and Karunanidhi followed the same pattern (1956-1970): In 1956 August first, Dravidia Kazhagam asked the volunteers to bum pictures of Lord Rama as the organization considered Ramayana as anti-women and anti lower castes etc. one Dravidia Kazhagam leader in the name of Thiruvarur Thangarajan wrote a new version of Ramayana way Rama was portrayed as a villain. The Dravidia Kazhagam film star M.R. Radha staged the play throughout the state. The Government led by the Chief Minister Kamaraj immediately banned the play but Dravidia Kazhagam after obtaining court’s pem1ission staged the play in selected towns.  At the instigation of Thiru E. V. Ramaswami Naicker[11], the Leader of Dravida Kazhagam, several tableaus depicting the picture of Gods Rama and Muruga were being beaten by a chappal in a procession held at Salem on 23rd and 24th January 1971. When one individual printed the photos of the procession, the DMK government banned and seized the posters.  The Government of Tamil Nadu issued a Notification G. O. Ms. No. 491 Home dated 12-2-1971 directing the posters to be forfeited to the Government on the ground that the said posters contained matters which promote or intend to promote the feelings of enmity and hatred between different classes of citizens of India or which is deliberately or maliciously intended to outrage the religious feelings of any such class by insulting the religion or the religious feelings of that class[12].

Mount Road Mahavishnu, Karunanidhi and Iyengar girls marrying his nephews: It is well known that Karunanidhi used to be so harsh and rude about “The Hindu” dubbing it as a “Parppanan naledu”, i.e, a daily of Brahmins (using derogatory word). However, N. P. Ramajeyam started gaining control over the Hindu labour union.  He joined in 1965 and became Union’s General Secretary in 1975. He was also a MLA of Mylapore constituency during 1996-2001. When he died in 2007, N. Murali, MD praised him like anything and told, “that he never brought politics inside”! However, when Kanimozhi was suffering fron depression, because of divorce, she was accommodated in the “editorial section” and trained to get over. Ironically, Dayanidhi Maran took their relative Priya as his wife. He married Priya of “The Hindu” Iyengar family [Ramesh Rangarajan son of S. Rangarajan] on 26-08-1994. Incidentally, Mallika wife of Murasoli Maran has been the daughter of A. N. Kalanasundara Iyer. And Stalin’s name was mentioned in posters, in those days as “Vishnu Stalin”!  Then the atheit and anti-Hindu Karunanidhi stopped mentioning “Mount Road Mahavishnu”. However, his tirade against Ram unabated as pointed out above. Thus, father and son have been trying to exploit the sentiments of Iyengars with marital links.

The extreme, fanatical and radical groups  acting in Dravidastan: Sri Rangam has been sacred place, pilgrimage centre and abode of Gods and Goddesses for believing and devouted Hindus. However, it has been the target of the rabid Dravidian leaders from 1970 onwards by Annadurai, Karunanidhi, to anti-Hindu K. Viramani. When the former categories declared that, “The day the idols of Sri Ranganatha and Thillai Nataraja were destroyed with bombardments of tanks, that day is golden day for us.” As such venomous words were poured from the Chief Ministers of Tamilnadu and they always exhibited their anti-Hindu rants openly, such people have taken later that such type of shouts are allowed in the “Dravidian parlance.” The extreme, fanatical and radical groups have been targeting Sri Rangam by all means thereafter. The archbishop Arulappa also caught hold of Sri Rangam “Ganesh Iyer” converted to “Acharya Paul” for manufacturing evidences to promote “thomas myth” in India in 1980s. The bigoted K. Viramani installed a “Periyar statue” in the public road, in front of the Sri Rangam temple. The extreme Naxalite and CPML gang entered the temple and created problem. Now “a mad man” enters the sanctum sanctorum with knife, scissors, chappal etc. And then, the elephant became “wild” suddenly at Samyapuram temple to trample its mahout next day.

Attacking temples, temple priests, looting temples and properties have become order of the day: As the people of Tamilnadu, have been living under these extreme, fundamentalist and fanatic groups since 1970s, and they have already witnessed, the so-called “Periyar” with all his “analytical wisdom” breaking Vinayaka idols, the black shirt DK gangs garlanding Rama, Sita, Lakhsmana with chappals and beating with chappals carrying in a procession, many temples and mutts attacked on one or the other pretext, for all the political incidences, the poor Brahmins were targeted, abused, beaten, their sacred threads cut, why even cut with aruval / knives without any reason, they may take these “incidences” as a part of neo-iconoclasts, modern-day Mohammedans and Indian brand of ISIS terrorists. Poor Hindus may continue pray and keep silence, “God would take care of”! About the looting temples and mutts, their properties, one need not explain, as it has become the order of the day.

Whether the obnoxious things brought inside were thrown or dropped inside sanctom sanctorium?: A 29-year-old man holding a soiled bag near the sanctum sanctorum at the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple caused anxious moments on 23-05-2018, Wednesday morning[1]. “The Hindu” says it is Wednesday, whereas, other papers point out, it was Thursday! The man, identified as R. Dharmaraj of Thiruvadaimaruthur in Thanjavur district, was said to be mentally unstable[2]. It is not known as to how the “mentally unstable” person has chosen Sri Rangam temple, when, there have been so many temples in and around Tanjore. Dharmaraj was standing in the queue along with other devotees around 10.30 a.m. when he dropped his bag on the step near the sanctum sanctorum, causing a flutter. The temple staff took him out and found a scissors, a penknife and discarded clothes in the bag. The incident went viral on social media and it was claimed that the man had flung the bag near the sanctum sanctorum. Temple authorities, however, maintained that the man had dropped the bag on the step near the sanctum sanctorum. So here also, the secular interpretation comes as to whether “the obnoxious things brought inside were thrown or dropped inside sanctum sanctorium.” How it has crossed all the security checks was also not explained by the authorities.

Afterwards declarations, complaints show that the authorities wanted to hush up the issue: The Hindu goes on to explain, “The temple authorities performed Panchakavya Prokshana, a cleansing ritual, after the incident. The police said Dharmaraj had abused the temple security staff and prevented them from discharging their duty when they checked the bag. The Srirangam police arrested Dharmaraj and booked a case against him. The temple authorities have placed a request before the police to check personal belongings of devotees at all the three entrances of the shrine before letting them inside, and to intensify surveillance and security”. The same news has been reported by the TOI[3] as, “TRICHY: The Srirangam police arrested a 27-year-old man for preventing temple staff from discharging their duties and intimidating them with dire consequences after he was questioned for throwing a bag containing a knife inside Srirangam Ranganathaswamy temple on Thursday.” So, if one has to believe that this “mentally unstable” person could prevent the entire security personnel of the temple at mercy! Thus, the persons with “analytical wisdom” have to believe the story. And it happened next day as follows.

Mahout trained elephant becoming wild and trampling him: Samayapuram Mariamman Temple remains closed after the temple elephant trampled G Gajendran, the mahout to death on 25-05-2018, Friday. Samayapuram Mariamman Temple remains closed after the temple elephant trampled the mahout to death on Friday[4]. Police said the incident took place near the temple premises premises in full view of shocked devotees. The mahout of the temple elephant of Samayapuram Mariamman Temple near Tiruchi was trampled to death by the pachyderm on Friday. The 12-year-old female elephant crushed the 42-year-old mahout under its legs at 11 am when devotees were moving towards the sanctum sanctorum for worship. “Masini was brought to the temple at 10.50 am by Gajendran. In the next ten minutes, it turned violent and pushed the mahout to the ground and trampled him. His body was taken out later,” superintendent of police, Trichy district, Zia Ul Haq told TOI[5]. Everyone knows elephants cannot become wild, unless they are provoked with extreme activities. Police said that devotees ran helter-skelter to safeguard themselves and in the chaos two women and a child were injured. Temple employees closed the gates of the area to prevent a rampage by the elephant. A video of the elephant trampling the mahout is also in circulation.

Calm and co-operative elephant cannot become wild targeting only mahout and not any other: The video shows Masini stamping Gajendran multiple times, while someone raises an alarm. The incident triggered panic among the people in and around the temple. “Masini was generally very calm and cooperative. I wonder what provoked it to go out of control. The mahout usually brings it to the temple in the morning and takes it back to its shelter by night,” said a local resident, V P Muniappan[6]. On getting information, a team led by regional joint director of animal husbandry, Trichy Dr A Murugan rushed to the temple. He said that Masini got furious after someone allegedly pulled some hair from its tail, when it was blessing a couple who got married in the temple. The attempts of the mahout to calm the elephant down failed and it vented its anger on him. Forest department officials brought a kumki elephant to the temple to control Masini. While a team of veterinarians was about to administer tranquiliser, some mahouts managed to calm the elephant. Masini was then chained in a room inside the temple. Authorities planned to take Masini back to its shelter on Friday night with the help of the kumki elephant. Darshan was suspended following the tragedy and is expected to resume on Saturday. Samayapuram police registered a case based on a complaint by an eyewitness, G Achutan, 19. Preliminary investigations revealed that the elephant was not chained on Friday. Gajendran’s body was taken to Srirangam government hospital for post-mortem. He was a resident of Mahalikudi near Samayapuram and is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.

What should be done?: The Hindus should insist for the following:

  1. The Dravidian ideologists should change or the people should change them.
  2. They cannot play double game with the Hindu believers.
  3. Their tongues should be held hereafter, if they want to criticize Hindu religion, scriptures etc.
  4. Even under the category of “analytical wisdom,” Periyarism etc., they cannot do that.
  5. The rabid elements cannot be nurtured and protected under the guise of “imbalanced, disturbed etc., ” as such people cannot enter temple.
  6. The atheists, party members and other anti-Hindu type people should be expelled from the temple, including HR & CE.
  7. The secuirity ceck should be thorough and there should not be any deviation, evem for employee.
  8. The anti-Hindu forces, their movements trough the city within the seven prakaras should not be allowed under any pretext.
  9. Such elements, shop-keepers and others can be expelled.
  10. Sri Rangam temple should be protected just like “Golden temple” with seven prakaras and walls.

Nagarajan and Antartica Tamizhan: Nagarajan’s paper continues, “The materials gathered from multiple sources which includes intentional and unintentional resources related to the first century CE. Reveals that there was no kingdom by name Ayodhya in north India.  Further the cartographic maps particularly the Greek cartography highlighting the Eastern Hemisphere clearly showed the existence of Ay kingdom in south India and not in north India.

The visual pattern clearly shows the evolution of Gaya kingdom in Korean peninsula over a period from BCE 100 to 400 CE.  The maps also clearly indicate the change in Tamilnadu all the kingdoms including the Ay kingdom were replaced by the Kalabras.  The presence of Ay and Kongu in Tamilnadu when the Gaya kingdom emerged will help the researchers to formulate a hypothesis to establish the Korean Queen Indian princess connection. The present paper goes to prove that historizing  the legend may lead to a tenable hypothesis that the princess be from south India particularly from Pandiya kingdom than from the Ayodhya kingdom”. Then, he concluded with, “The present paper further points out the direction for future research initiatives by proposing a new paradigm with new hypotheses, methodologies and new models”. Ironically, all these narratives are available in “Mintamil” website, where  one “Antartica Tamilan” has posted in Tamil. Though, we do not know whether Nagarajan has copied from “Antartica Tamilan” or both are one and the same person, it is evident that the “research” has been biased, preconceived and concocted much against the research methodology.

The aggressive U-tube propaganda on “Sembavala Rani”: As pointed out, the same stuff is converted into U-tube with photos and circulated. Particularly, they chose to praise heavily Kannan and Orissa Balu for the excellent, marvellous and extraordinary discover made[1]. Suggestuve narrative,  prompting description and story-telling pattern expose the propagandist nature. Particularly, these videos have been with same photographs, same narratives with male and female voices[2]. “Coral Shree” consolidated all stuff available in “Mintamil” in another video[3]. She claims that she has only discovered the tortoise route, similar jewelry worn by Tamil and Korean women, the fish symbol, “Sembavalam” and so on. Thus, it is evident that these have been “stage managed” and aimed at propaganda and self-promotion using their expertise. Under the banner of “Tamil Heritage Foundation,” they have brought a book “Historical, archaeological, linguistic, cultural and biological links between Korea and India – Kaya and Pandya” by Kannan and obviously translated in Tamil “Koreavin Tamil Rani”.

Provocative captions chosen for U-tubes: Some of the captions chosen for U-tubes have been following:

1.       The Korean goddess was a Tamil woman – the Korean embassy has been in confusion because of plot hatched by India. This has been blatantly anti-Indian nature, as if India tries to confuse the origin of the queen, tracing Ayodhya instead of ancient Tamizhagam.
2.      The goddess of the Korean people was a “Tamlilachi” – a suppressed History of Tamils. Note, here “Tamlilachi” connotes a fanatic and fundamentalist expression for Tamil woman. The “suppression” of Tamil history and such other accusations have been absurd and meaningless. Just claims are not enough, unless, historical evidences are produced.
3.      The “Tamlilachi” who ruled Korea. The fanatic and fundamentalist expression “Tamlilachi” has been mischievous and unhistorical.
4.      The other side of History – The Korean goddess was a Tamil woman [With the background photo of demolition of disputed structure at Ayodhya]. This also proves the pro-Tamil, anti-north, anti-BJP propaganda, smacks any worth of research.
5.      The Tamil Empress / Queen of Korea.

 

Whatever may be the origin, the claim of queen, empress, ruling Korea etc, have been far-fetched and unwarranted.

What the videos want to convey?: The tone and tenor of the narratives, the way they are presented with photographs, the expressions used “suppressed history of Tamils,” “hidden truth of Tamil queen,” “the lot of India” etc., shows the intention of the U-tubes in circulation. Generally, in Tamilnadu, the Tamil linguistic chauvinism has been order of the day and such groups could exploit people easily under one or the other pretext.  Though, the concepts of race has been proved myth, they have been continue to stick to such unhistorical race hypotheses and theories exhibiting their attitude of racism and racialism. Such ideologists and promoted experts still talk, interpret and write in terms of “Aryan” and “Dravidian” races and so on. The Tamil diaspora, where pro-Tamil, former LTTE associates, radical Tamil activists and such groups have been active with resources, they have been carrying out such propaganda with ulterior motives. At any cost, the “Tamil chauvinism” cannot be boiled, super-heated and turned to “Tamil separatism” with this type of propagandist attitude. So under such circumstances, the videos and related contents with intent, purport and purpose raise many serious questions in the Indian context.

Researchers cannot be partisan, anti-Indian and separatist activist: Researchers do not accuse each other or present unhistorical narratives with emotional inducement and excitement for any linguistic group with racial tinge. Particularly, Kannan like experts living in Germany, Germany citizen knows very well how racism works in European countries and Tamilnadu. The “Dravidastan” / “Thani-Tamilnadu”claims are made still here in Tamilnadu lon every pretext. Therefore, the narrtives, symbols, photos, used show anti-India propaganda also. Why then these researchers indulge in such activities?  Incidentally, just last month, their associate and partner, Subashini Tremmel[4] indulged in promoting “thomas myth” through a video[5], that has been blatantly unhistorical and supporting church frauds. Former Archbishop was involved with forged research with Achya Paul and the cae went to Madras high court. Though, the case was settled out of court to save the honour of the church and the bishop, it exposed the dubious research, manufacture of forged evidences and fabrication of copper plates. Though, it was pointed out to her, she kept silent. Therefore, definitely, a doubt arises as to what exactly these researchers want to do with Indians and India? As they have been well-resourced, well-placed and well-informed persons, it is unbelievable that they could have involved in such activities.  As few suggestions are added to conclude:

Suro and Heo ok

  1. Historical research should be free from bias, prejudice and preconceived ideas.
  2. As “Aryan-Dravian race” hypotheses and theories have been declared unhistorical, such interpretation would not do any good in research.
  3. Indians cannot be divided on the basis of linguistic interpretation, excessive repetition of myth-making without any regard for history, historicity and historical evidences.
  4. “Kumarikkandam” hypothesis cannot be a basis for historiography disregarding historical evidences and chronology.
  5. In SEA, the lengends, myhistory and narratives have been more in Sanksrit [not that with any bias], supported by inscriptioonal evidences.
  6. The pre-Pallava inscriptions of SEA should be an eye-opener for Indian researchers, as their Pallava inscriptions are dated later.
  7. As people of Bengal, Orissa, Andhra and Tamilnadu interacted with the SEA countries, all of their influences could be found, but, without any linguistic bias.
  8. In act, the contacts of Bengal, Orissa, and Andhra have been more than Tamilnadu, however, during the medieval period, the Cholas had indelible impression on many factors.

The Pagoda in front of tomb of Queen Hur Hwang-ok was made with stones brought from Ayodhya[1]: In South Korea, her tomb is located in Kimhae and there is a stone pagoda in front of it. It is said that the pagoda is made of stones that she brought from Ayodhya. Describing how she landed in Gaya when she first met the king, she said that the heavenly lord (Sange Je) appeared in her parents’ dreams and told them to send her to the Korea as the king had not found a queen yet. Legend states that the queen died at the age of 157. During PM Narendra Modi’s visit to South Korea in May last year 2014, the two countries agreed that a bigger monument of the princess will be built in Ayodhya. Recently, during a meeting with the Korean delegation, Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav said that the memorial would be constructed according to the Korean architecture. He asked Kim Ki-jae, President of Central Karak Clan Society, to provide the design of the monument so that the government can proceed.

The linkage between Korea and India from Ancient tines seminar on 06-11-2015 at Chennai[2]: Interesting facts came to light at the day-long International Conference on Cultural Exchange between India and Korea in Antiquity, organized by the Consulate General of Republic of Korea and the International Institute of Tamil Studies at Hotel Crown Plaza, Chennai on 06-11-2015[3]. Evidently, to compensate or satisfy the “Tamil groups,” this “day-long International Conference” was organized. In the Republic of Korea (South Korea), Tamil words resonate in homes. And many of the native speakers do not realise they are using Tamil words. For, these words are a part of the Korean language. Amma and appa — denoting mother and father in the Korean language too — are among the first words Korean children learn. These are among the thousands of Tamil words that are part of the Korean language. This surprising and interesting fact came to light at the day-long International Conference on Cultural Exchange between India and Korea in Antiquity, jointly organised by the Consulate General of Korea and the International Institute of Tamil Studies here on Friday. Jung Nam Kim, president, Korean Society of Tamil Studies, said there were words found both in Korean and Tamil and in both these languages, they meant the same thing and were pronounced the same way.

Linguistic connection between Korea and India[4]: Other Tamil words found in Korean with the same meanings are: naal (day), uraam (manure), pull (grass), pudhu (new), sourru (rice) and yerru (plough). There are more – vanakkam in Tamil is Vankkaamtta in Korean. Bambu denoting a snake, in Tamil, is Bambu-baem in Korean. Santhosham (happiness) in Tamil is Shantutham in Korean. Recently, the State government started translation of Tirukurral into Korean. “We have a shared heritage. The tomb of Queen Suriratna, an Indian princess, in Gimhae in Korea is a symbol of our shared heritage. In fact, Chennai has the largest Korean population — 4,000 — in India,” Kyungsoo Kim, Consul General of Republic of Korea, said. Rathina Pugalenthi, a scholar from Viruthachalam near Cuddolore district, said that dance forms such as Korean drum dance and Thappaattam in Tamil Nadu had at least 12 similarities in terms of movements, and composition of eight members in a group, including two drummers.

“…….mounting evidences to indicate that she was from Tamil Nadu, in particular Pandyan or Aai kingdom”: Rathi Jafer, Director at the InKo Centre, points out that there is the historical journey of Bodhidharma, the monk believed to be from South India who spread Buddhism to China and Korea[5]. We aim to initiate a research project soon to examine the historic links between South India and South Korea, both the ancient trajectories and the contemporary manifestations of this inter-cultural exchange. Of particular interest will be the Buddhist links that existed between the Pandyan, Pallava and the Gaya kingdoms, the manner in which Buddhist scriptures, iconography, language and the introduction of iron and steel are credited as having been transferred from South India to South Korea,” she says. Kannan Narayanaa[6] of Tamil Heritage Foundation claimed that “Researchers thought that Ayuta is actually Ayodhya in India. But there has been mounting evidences to indicate that she was from Tamil Nadu, in particular Pandyan or Aai kingdom. Recent genetic studies by researchers Jeong-Sun SEO and Kim Jong-il on the remains of her tomb revealed genetic similarities between Indians and Koreans……. a lot more research needs to be done”. Without giving historical evidences, he made such claims and ended with apologetic note that “a lot more research needs to be done”! However, his intention has been different as revealed later. P. Banumathi, assistant professor, Department of Tamil in Valliammal College for Women, spoke about how the traditional weaving technology of the State was meritoriously followed in the interior parts of Korea even now.

Orissa Balu inventor of “Sembavala Rani” who became goddess of Korea: A Malaysian friend sent a video about a “World Tamil Conference” held May 19th and 20th at Cambodia and asked me to go through and opine. When I watched the video carefully, I could understant that the same Kannan Narayanaa was talking in a different tone. Kannan has already uploaded his paper[7] in 2011, in which, repeating the researches of  Professor Kim Byeongmo and  Parthasarathi, suddenly asserts that she started at Nagapattinam or Mamallapuram, touching Sri Lanka, Nicobar Islands, Java (Bali) and finally reaching Guang-Zhou in China. Without giving any historical evidence, he concluded with “Substantial research is due.” In research, the researcher has to bring out his conclusion based on primary evidences, or secondary evidences with new interpretation. He cannot present the stuff that has already been presented, published etc. Here, the pattern note is that one researcher put forward one hypothesis without any historical evidences, but, linguistic with comparing here and there few words. This is picked up by another as concluded “history,” and adds his hypothesis. In short, the same old stuff, well-known stuff is repeated and and again with embellishment and internet bombardment of U-tubes and so on.

Orissa Balu’s old linguistic and racial studies promoting emotional Tamil separatism: Ironically, now he revealed the “inventor of Tamil lady who went from Tamilnadu to Korea” instead of Ayodhya. He was referring to “Orissa Balu” who asserted that the lady was from “Ay kingdom.” S. Balasubraminan from Orissa has been obsessive nationalist enthusiast turned Tamil propagandist. He started telling everybody that Tamil was the first language, from which all languages originated, “Kumarikandam” was there under Indian Ocean, he had gone under ocean and sea portions and so on. Though, he has not been telling anything new, for current generation, such stuff would exite them. Thus, he has become popular amongst the “pro-Tamil” groups and even DK invited him to talk about “Kumarikandam” at Periyar Thidal. The problem with this type of “Tamil researchers” have been that they read and interpret every non-Tamil word as Tamil without caring for other evidences. In 1960s one Arunagiri Nadar was doing that by bringing out small booklets showing all words of world were etymologically derived from Tamil. Later in 1980s, it was picked up, but claimed as his invention by one Sattur Sekaran. Now perhaps, Orissa Balu has come. Ironically, already there has been one Blalakrishnan from Orissa, an IAS officer has also been doing similar type of research, however, methodological.

Nagarajan’s paper on the Korean Queen of Tamilnadu[8]: One Prof. Nagarajan sent a paper to “Mintamil” group for the 2015 one-day-seminar, but, not presented or accepted. The following narrative is taken from his paper. “Though Korea has a long history of its own, until 1300 CE Korea remained as unknown and forbidden land to western world. The first publication of its history ‘Samguk Yusa’ or ‘The Heritage History of the Three Kingdoms’, a treasured work in Korea which was written in the 13th century enabled the Koreans to understand their longstanding history, heritage and legacy.  Based on the premise, Korean scholars believed that their first queen has come from a far of land known by the name Ayuktha.  When they commenced the research they first identified Ayuktha Kingdom of Thailand and subsequently reached Ayodhya of India.  Prima facie they believed that sufficient materials are available to accept the premise that their first queen was the Princess of Ayodhya. According to their sources,the princess from India travelled by boat having red colour flag with twin fish. She was accompanied by her brother and a team of 22 members as an embassy to meet the King Suro of Kaya Kingdom.  She travelled for two months and reached the Koean shore and she married King Suro on 27th July CE 48.  She carried with her valuable presents such as precious stones, tea plants, seven storm preventing stones and 12 stringed musical instrument………………[continued]

Vairamuthu’s research on Andal, the “quoted quote research methodology,” and the confession of “eminent historians”!

The controversy started with Vairamuthu on Andal (07-1-2018): What Vairamuthu wrote about Andal as appeared in “Dinamani” in Tamil, and its translation is given as follows[1]: “As Andal was not born to Periyazhwar, there were no details available about her birth, though, she was brought up by a Brahmin, as the society that was controlled with caste stratification might not accept her into such caste hierarchy, Andal herself had already attained the freedom of word with force and there was a practice of offering women to temple accepted by the then society, some researchers have been compelled to arrive at stunning conclusions. The book ‘Indian Movement: some aspects of dissent, protest and reform’ edited by Subash Chandra Malik of Indiana University, USA contains such reference as follows: Andal was herself a devadasi who lived and died in the Srirangam Temple. The devotees might not accept this, but, those who oppose patriarchy and socio-religious (code) might think about it.” This created the controversy that is still raging in Tamilnadu and some parts of Andhra and Karnataka. Ironically, now, Dinamani has removed the controversial or rather blasphemous article and their regrets are appearing there[2].

Verification of the book referred to by Vairamuthu: Now, let us analyze the “quote” of the learned poet and writer of Vairamuthu. As he has given the reference, now, as a “researcher”, anyone can go to the source and verify.

Thus, let us see the book under reference. M. G. S. Narayanan and Veluthat Kesavan published a paper, “The Bhakti Movement in South India” in “Indian Movements: Some Aspects of Dissent Protest and Reform,” edited and introduced by S. C. Malik and published by Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla in 1978. In which, what they claimed was,

So when we look at page no.5 of the said book, what, T. A. Gopinatha Rao recorded is this, “When she reached marriageable age, she refused to marry anyone except the God Ranganatha of the Srirangam temple. The God appeared to the Alvar in a dream to declare before him his acceptance of the girl in marriage and ordered her to be brought to his residence at Srirangam. Periyalvar took her there with great eclat and left her in her Lord’s house and returned to his quiet residence at Srivilliputtur.

Therefore, there is nothing like what the learned historians M. G. S. Narayanan and Veluthat Kesavan reportedly claimed, “Andal herself is a Devadasi who lived and died in the Sri Rangam Temple.” Why then, the leaned “historians” wrote in that way and what was their motive?

M. G. S. Narayanan clarified to Dinathanthi that there was no such reference to Devadasi[3]: When Asoka Vardhini contacted M. G. S. Narayanan through phone, he accepted that there was no specific reference to Andal as devadasi and he mentioned it based on inference only. He also accepted that Veluthat Kesavan was a student of him, doing M.A history (implying that he might not have been having research expertise at that time). There is no inscriptional evidence to that effect and it was written only based on “oral tradition.” When she asked specifically, he specifically confessed that there is no primary evidence and even secondary evidence to that effect, it was a controversial interpretation and a “matter of inference”. Then, naturally, it is intriguing and shocking to know as to know how they could have written conclusively, “Andal was herself a devadasi who lived and died in the Srirangam Temple.” Now, he is considered as one of reputed and eminent historians of India, former chairman of ICHR and so on. Why them, they stooped to such “quoted quote” research methodology, amounting faking and forging such lies and falsehood in historiography?

The implications of “quoted quote research,” bogey of “eminent historians” and other modern-day mythistories: Now let us analyze their quotations, reportedly lifted from two books mentioned above.

  1. The book in question was published by Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla in 1978 and not by Indiana University, USA as claimed by Vairamuthu.
  1. Vairamuthu should have verified the sources before quoting, that too, part of a sentence picking up from their paper. He must have consulted the original sources (as he knows Tamil very well) and also other secondary sources after 1978 to present his speech and “researched” article appeared.
  1. Ironically, he and the press, still carry such wrong and falsified blabbering[4]. “As part of my research for writing this article on Aandaal, I happened to read a collection of articles edited by Subhash Chandra Malik in the name of “Indian Movements: Some Aspects of Dissent, Protest and Reform”, the original from Indiana University and published by Indian Institute of Advanced Study in 1978. It is very much an Indian research study by Indian historians,”thus claimed Vairamuthu.[5]
  1. Vairamuthu added, “Professor M.G.S Narayanan & Professor Kesavan Veiuthat. Professor M. G. S Narayanan is considered as “one of India’s top authorities on ancient history” and has served as the chairman of Indian Council of Historical Research. Professor Kesavan Veluthat is the Professor of History in University of Delhi. The line mentioned in my article was from a reputed publication and by reputed historians.” But, M. G. S. Narayanan now refuted. Here, Vairamuthu mentioned, “G.S Narayanan is considered as “one of India’s top authorities on ancient history,” whereas, the subject dealt with has not been so ancient!
  1. Cheraman Perumal Nayanar notes the reception given to Shiva by devadasis of all ages while he went out in procession around the streets in Kailas35.” M. G. S. Narayanan himself accepted that the story of Cheraman Perumal was a myth floated after 13th century by the vested Mohammedan groups. Therefore, the question of devadasis of all sorts going out in procession is redundant, immaterial and incompetent.
  1. Andal herself is a Devadasi who lived and died in the Sri Rangam Temple36.” This is also fake, fraudulent and deceptive, as T.A. Gopinatha Rao never mentioned such sentence in his book, as pointed out above.
  1. It is unbecoming for these researchers, now, paraded as “historians” to quote that was not there in a book, secondary source.
  1. It exposes the dubious and dangerous nature of “quoted quote” research methodology, as most of the researchers, may not look into the quotes recorded by the “eminent historians.”
  1. Coming to ideology, it is evident that the involved personalities have been Marxists and atheists and thus, their speeches and writings have been tarnished with bias, prejudice and without objectivity.
  1. As the Marxist ideology is coupled with Dravidian ideology of atheism, that is directed against Hindu religion, evidently, Hindus have come to streets. How they have been oppressed, suppressed and attacked by them since 1960s have been too well-known to be repeated here.

Kanimozhi’s visit to Tirumala in 2012 and criticism made in 2017: Kanimozhi, the Rajya Sabha MP claimed that she visited Tirumala, as a member of the Committee under Venkaiah Naidu, during her controversial speech made at the WAC, Trichy on 06-01-2018. She had claimed that she had recently visited the popular Tirupati Tirumala temple in Andhra Pradesh[1]. Kanimozhi said she, along with some other MPs, was taken to the temple by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, as a part of a Home Affairs Committee, through a special route arranged for the group[2].  “If you give more money and buy a ticket you get special dharsanam [visit]. If not, you stand for 10 hours, 20 hours or two days. That is god………He (accompanied MP) told me that all their wishes are being granted and they are being protected…I then asked him, there is a money collection box right in front of the god. Why is there a security personnel with a stun gun protecting it? People who run the temple are not confident that god can protect the money collection box. Why should I believe in god?”…..” When TNM contacted Kanimozhi she was unfazed by the opposition that the speech has garnered[3]. “Whatever happens, I will face it legally. I said this at an Atheist Conference,” she says[4]. This made me to dig into her visit, because, as an atheist, she should not have visited the temple. The background of the visit and the details are as follows.

Why and how Kanimozhi visited Tirumala and also SHAR, and Kalpakkam in November 2012?: As a part of a Home Affairs Committee, kanimozhi visited the Tirumala temple on November 12, 2012. The team paid a visit to both –

  • the pilgrim-choked Vaikuntam queue complexes,
  • Kalyanakatta and
  • Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba free meals complex and
  • the TTD-run Aswini hospital[5].

Prominent among others who were present were included members of the committee –

  1. Kanimozhi,
  2. Raman Deka,
  3. Santosh Chowdary,
  4. Ravneet Singh,
  5. Neeraj Sekhar,
  6. TTD Executive Officer L.V. Subramanyam,
  7. JEO K.S. Srinivasa Raju,
  8. CVSO G.V.G. Ashok Kumar
  9. and others[6].

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs headed by BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu on Friday (November 12, 2012) expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements being made by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) atop the sacred shrine of Lord Venakteswara. Talking to media persons, Mr. Naidu said that the committee has been visiting several important places in the country, including Tirumala, SHAR, and Kalpakkam to study the existing security mechanism at all the places. He said that the committee was also scheduled meet the top brass of the TTD officials, intelligence officials and the officials of the State Home Department on Saturday in Tirupati wherein issues relating to disaster management and security mechanism will be discussed. Besides this, the committee will also discuss issues relating to the marine security in the coastal belt apart from the proposal to bring Tirumala under the ‘no-fly’ zone category. The TTD authorities on their part explained to the team the various initiatives being adopted by the temple administration towards crowd management, queue system and the amenities being extended to pilgrims visiting Tirumala.

Kanimozhi had special darsham tirth, prasad and saree: There have been many official reports, videos of the TTD and TV channels, News reports in English and Telugu as to why she visited the temple, what she did and other details:

  1. Kanimozhi visited the Tirumala temple on November 12, 2012 as a part of a Home Affairs Committee, to inspect the security arrangements being made by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
  2. She met the top brass of the TTD officials, intelligence officials and the officials of the State Home Department on Saturday in Tirupati wherein issues relating to disaster management and security mechanism.
  3. She verified the various initiatives being adopted by the temple administration towards crowd management, queue system and the amenities being extended to pilgrims visiting Tirumala.
  4. She had gone to Kalyanakatta where tonsure is made that involves hygiene and other issues. When two women member had symbolic tonsure, she was there and joined them.
  5. Went to Pushkarni to note the maintenance, refilling of water etc.
  6. She had special darshan of Sri Venkatswara, had tirth and prasadam. She also received a saree given by the TTD.
  7. Went to free-meals section, inspected the vessels for the cooking of food that is fed to thousands daily.
  8. Went to laddu counter, where, laddu and other prasadams were given free to her.
  9. She visited the temple to pray Sri Venkateswara to clear all problems, she was facing.

Cong MLC, P Sudhakar Reddy condemns Kani on 12-01-2018

Complaints made against Kanimozhi: The local BJP leaders led by former TTD Board member G Bhanu Prakash Reddy submitted a written complaint to Urban ASP Srinivasulu against DMK MP Kanimozhi here on Thursday, (11-01-2018) for hurting the religious beliefs of Hindus[7]. She made adverse comments on the Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala at a Tiruchi meeting in Tamil Nadu[8]. Rayalaseema Porata Samithi (RPS) convener P Naveen Kumar Reddy has condemned the DMK MP comments against the presiding deity of Tirumala. He demanded that the state government’s Endowments department take legal action against Kanimozhi. The RPS activists staged a dharna near Alipiri. Ironically, in Tamilnadu, the so-called Hindutwavadis, Sangh-parivar, BJPwalas and other “Hindus” have been keeping quite for unknown reasons. The foreign delegates and other responsible delegates who attended the WAC should take care of the facts.

WAC, Trichy - second day, paper presenters

The First Day paper reading session (05-01-2018): The WAC organizers kept the paper reading session inside and the public meetings open. The first day (05-01-2018) paper reading proceedings were held at Periyar Maniammai University campus, Vallam. On the theme, “Atheism – Hope for Humanity”, Three parallel sessions were held, where, 38 delegates participated and presented 28 papers. Of which 13 were taken for discussion.

In first session, was conducted with Balwinder Barnala, Tarkkaasila Sangha, as chair-person and , Dr Samarasam, Vijyawada Atheist Centre, as moderator.

Kadesh Godherao, Maharastra Antastrata Nirmulam Samiti, read a paper on the topic, “Atheism is for the Progress of Humanity”.

Kumanarajan, editor of “Tamil Lemuria”, Mumbai presented a paper on “Threats of religious fundamentalism, Problems and Solutions.”

In the second session was chaired by Prof Ilakkuvan, Director, Periyar Centre, USA and P. Sabasiva Rao, Treasurer, Telengana-Hyderabad Manava Vikasha Vedika, moderated.

Prof Sam George, American College, spoke on, “Atheism – Way of Life.” M. Govindasamy, Malaysia Dravidar Sangam, Kulalampur spoke on, “Dravidian Movement in Malaysia”.

Dr R. Gauthaman, Periyar Medical Mission, spoke on “Medicine and Atheism.”

However, most of the papers were of generalized, rehashing the already known details and targeting Hindu religion for superstition and so on. Emphasis was given for in between Peiyar and Dravidian movement. The atheist arguments had been against ontological, teleological, cosmological points, but, they could not put forward any new points. The age-old theist-atheist arguments on these lines have been too well-known to be repeated here.

DK opposing Rajini-

Atheism versus Spirituality – debate started: Speakers propagating atheist philosophy slammed religious beliefs, especially in Hinduism, at the World Atheist Conference here on Friday (05-01-2018). The concept of spiritual politics espoused by superstar Rajinikanth also came in for sharp criticism. It is not known as to why Rajni’s politics should be attacked and criticized in the “World Atheist Conference”. Evidently, as Trichy has been strong base of Rajini’s fans and his political ambitions would erode the Dravidian polity and as well as the prospects of DMK, the WAC has been exploited to attack Rajini politics.  Though Rajini’s concept was much debated over the past few days, some speakers found it nascent and lacking clarity. However, Dravida Kazhagam leader K. Veeramani aid that people propagating ideology of spiritual politics would be exposed sooner than later. Speaking on the sidelines of the conference, he said spiritual politics was nothing but a tool that might be used to deceive people. Politics was in no way related to spirituality. Spiritual politics stressed on the existence of spirit which was called ‘Atma’. The aim of the conference was to counter the very existence of spirit through philosophical arguments. Those trying to mislead people in the name of spirit would be exposed soon, he said. Ironically, even the atheist religions like Jainism and Buddhism believed “Atma”, rebirth, etc.

During public session, Rajinikantha’s “Spiritual Politics” attacked: Lakshman Tamil from Periyar International, USA said that those thinking about starting a political party in the state could not ignore Periyar or Dravidian movement for their brand value. He said that one could become popular in the state by invoking the name of Periyar. Lakshman recalled how his father had told him to be honest also when he expressed his wish to become an atheist like Thanthai periyar. Periyar had set high standards to be an atheist, he said. aking a jibe at Rajini, Dravidian Tamil Federation general secretary Suba Veerapandian said that a person had recently visited Gopalapuram (the residence of DMK leader M Karunanidhi) to seek his blessings[1]. But little did he know that he could only get rationalist lessons from the leader and not his blessings[2]. Rationalists and atheists had been criticising the actor for giving his political move a religious colour. Though Rajinikanth had come out in the open with a statement clarifying his stand, not many seemed to be convinced.

“Dravidian philosophy is the only alternative to Hindutva”: Untouchability is the worst tyranny any part of the world has ever seen. So is the caste system. And these are practiced in the name of God, said Dravida Kazhagam leader K Veeramani here on Friday (05-01-2018). Speaking at the World Atheism Conference 2018 in Trichy, Veeramani said India is land of atheism, not temples. Atheism is not just the denial of religion, but denial of all superstitions associated with it too. He said atheism dated back to 1500 CE in our country. Lakshman Tamil, Periyar International, USA, said caste system is the bane of India and society cannot progress as long as this Vedic system exists. Hinduism cannot claim that it is all-encompassing until it disowns the Vedas, he said. Buddhism and Jainism moved away from people and lost their relevance[3]. The Dravidar Kazhagam has created a populous atheist movement and it is the true Shramana movement of the modern time in terms of the core philosophy of atheism, he said. Terming Periyar’s atheism the most relevant, Lakshman Tamil said it is also a populous movement. Its multifaceted nature has also contributed to its popularity. “Dravidian philosophy is the only alternative to Hindutva. People have to choose between Hindutva, which is a Vedic tradition that is based on hate and segregates people in the name of caste, and Dravidian philosophy, which preaches self-respect,” said Lakshman Tamil[4].

2G-Raja spoke on his atheism in Tihar and outside: Former Union telecom minister A Raja started off by thanking the CBI and the CAG for making him popular worldwide in the 2G spectrum case. “Being an atheist since teenage, his belief in atheism strengthened further during his imprisonment in the Tihar jail when he saw prisoners, who included rapists and murderers, making a beeline to offer oil to a figure of Saturn (Shani). Hinduism was used as a tool by upper caste people to keep a majority section poor by denying them education. This is a country where people are divided in terms caste. And this notion is created by religion”, he said. As many as 500 papers on atheism are going to be presented in the conference that is going to last for 3 days.

The Second Day paper reading session (06-01-2018): The seconday paper reading session was held in Einstein Auditorium, for which K. Veeramani chaired and  Narendra Naik, President, Indian Federation of Rationalist Associations acted as moderator. Devadoss welcomed the speakers and delegates. Elizabeth O’ Cassey delivered a special lecture.

Thaneswar Sahu, Philosopher professor and President of Odhisha Rationalist Association spoke on “Science, Scientific thinking – A Perspective.”

  1. Raja Kennedy, Rationalist Teachers Forum, spoke on, “Encouraging Scientific temper amomg the children”.
  2. Ramasamy, Professor and Rationalist from Madurai, spoke on “Atheist-Humanist Fighters Periyar and Gora”.

Suvinnila, Vice-President, Rationalist Association gave vote of thanks. Here, also, the speakers had repeated the points. They always tried to take “Science” as weapon against religious beliefs and dub them as “Superstition,” but, they could not tackle the issue of “Scientific superstition,” prevalent exploiting the public under forced propaganda, dubious advertisements and aggressive marketing.

Rationalists attacked, women treated badly by all religions- Kanimozhi: The evening seession was held at Puthur Periyar auditorium, Trichy as a public meeting, in which Kanimozhi, Tirumavalavan, C. Vijayan (Director, Vijayawada Rationalist Centre) spoke. Atheist and rationalists all around the world are under threat, said Rajya Sabha MP K Kanimozhi on the second day of the World Atheist Conference, organised by Dravidar Kazhagam in Trichy on Saturday (06-01-2018)[5]. She hoped the believers or religious minded attending the conference see the “………….true light of Periyar. The people who have congregated here are already atheist. Even then why we have gathered? Why do we have to preach ourselves when we have already converted? But we have to come together to show that we are together and what humanity means to the world ……. said no religion treats women equal to a man in every aspect, be it Hinduism, Christianity or Islam……………All religion says a woman has to obey a man. Women have been denied their rights in every religion. That was the reason Periyar denied all religion…………..There are reformers and feminist around the world who are fighting for women’s rights. I respect all of them, but there is one true feminist in this world and that is Periyar……………Religion is nothing but fear. How much blood has been shed, how many wars have been fought in this world because of religion?…………..God has never killed anyone for their wrongdoing and has remained a spectator. He would never act or react………….There is a threat for all atheists and rationalists around the world. To show our strength, we all should stand united and fight against hatred. Atheism and humanism are the only truths,” she said[6]. The Scroll.in just reproduced that TOI reported[7]. Irony that their correspondents, colunists or reporters could not add more than that TOI published[8].

The World Atheist Conference 2018 conducted with tall claims: The World Atheist Conference 2018 (hereinafter mentioned as WAC) was conducted with tall claims made on January 5th to 7th 2016 at Trichy. It was commenced here with an emphasis on setting right in equalities in the society, quelling superstitions, and propagating rationalistic thinking. Titled ‘Atheism – Hope of Humanity’ and what not, the three-day program organised jointly by the Dravidar Kazhagam, Atheist Centre, Vijayawada and The Rationalists’ Forum witnessed delegates representing rationalist organisations in different parts of India and other countries, taking part in the inaugural and plenary sessions, and presenting their views on an array of topics that included atheism, religious fundamentalism, and medicine and atheism[1]. Presiding over, K. Veeramani, president, Dravidar Kazhagam, said atheism in India means much beyond non-belief in supernatural and religious rituals, and that the prime focus was on rectifying untouchability in the society perpetuated in the name of religion, and denial of education on the basis of birth[2].

Features of the Conference (as claimed by the organizers): As claimed by the organizers, Atheist – Humanists around the world participate in the conference, besides the leaders of various atheist, rationalist and humanist organizations from all the States of the country, Paper presentations by atheist scholars and activists followed by deep deliberations on the different perspectives of atheist philosophy, form the major part of the conference proceedings, Sharing of religion-free living culture in various countries / societies and churning up the substance on living free from the fear of god, enabling humanity to progress and peace, Revealing the success, in establishing the egalitarian society free from the belief of non existing ‘god’ through the services of organizations and movements by atheist philosophers and Documenting the pioneering role rendered by atheist movements in the East during the early historical period.

The Rationalists’ Forum: The Rationalists’ Forum claims that it, “is a Humanist Movement founded by Periyar in 1971 and presently patronised by Dr. K. Veeramani, President, Dravidar Kazhagam. It is a unique movement, because of the composition of membership and the activities. People who are committed to Periyar ideology and employed in various organisations – government, public private co-operative have shouldered the responsibility of preaching and practicing rationalistic ideals”. The activities include organising meetings, seminars, science exhibition, superstition exposure show to develop scientific temper and humanism among the public. Many State and Central Ministers, Vice Chancellors of Universities, educationalists, officials who are at helm of affairs to-day were the earlier functionaries of The Rationalists’ Forum.

The Organizers of the Atheist Conference[3]: The organizers have been:

  1. Dravidar Kazhagam (Tamil Nadu), Atheist Centre (Vijayawada) and
  2. The Rationalists’ Forum (Tamil Nadu) jointly organise World Atheist Conference 2018.

WAC is the ideological confluence of atheist, rationalist and humanist fraternity from the countries – England, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, United States etc. and from all the States of India. WAC proceedings cover seminar and sittings with lecture delivery and paper presentation on the various dimensions of atheism , rationalism and humanism. Film show, video presentations, science exhibition, book fair are planned. A massive public procession with demonstrations exposing superstition is scheduled. A Souvenir containing essays, real stories, personal experiences of eminent persons on atheism and allied ideologies gets released on the occasion. Many leaders and persons of eminence from State and Central Governments, educationalists intellectuals participate in the proceedings.

Were foreign delegates conscious of the Dravidian atheism?: The foreign delegates attended the conference, but, what they spoke was not revealed by the organizers, the media and the participants:

  1. Gary McLelland[4], Chief Executive, International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU), London[5], and
  2. Avinash Patil, Executive President, Maharashtra Andhrashraddha Nirmoolan Samithi, Pune, Maharashtra, were the other guest speakers.
  3. Elizabeth O’ Cassey[6], Director of Advocasy – IHEU, Brussels, Belgium, inaugurated an exhibition of books at the Atheist Book Centre. Rustam Singh, Atheist Alliance International, USA;
  4. Suba Veerapandian, General Secretary, Dravidian Tamil Federation; and
  5. Rajaratnam, Pro-Chancellor, Periyar Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed to be University), Vallam, Thanjavur also spoke.

Five books were released on the occasion: ‘Bhagavad Gita – Myth or Mirage,’ and ‘March of Atheism’ authored by Veeramani, Compilation of ‘Old Testament of Indian Atheism’ by Surendra Anjat, ‘Essays on Matters which Matter’ (A Rationalist’s Perception) by S. Rajaratnam, and Compilation of ‘Revolt’ published by Periyar in 1928 and 1929. It is evident that Compilation of ‘Old Testament of Indian Atheism’ by Surendra Anjat, and conspicuously, there was no book released about the position of atheism in Islam or existence of “Islamic atheists”. As happened in 2011, this year also, most of the foreign delegates came and attended did not know about DK, EVR, Dravidian atheism etc., as they talk about Humanism, human rights, etc.

Inaugural session: During the inagural session, A. Raja, Sp. Suba Veerapandian, Gary McLelland, Elezabet O’Cassey, Avinash Patil and others spoke and thereafter, papers were presented. Ironically, A. Raja, former Union Minister of Telecommunication (who was in jail for 2G scam, came out on bail and acquitted by the Court recently), said he has been deriving inner strength from atheism. Ironically, the DK-ideologists talked as usual rhetoric with verbose without any new points. As usual, they made “stage-type” talk in Tamil and using few words and sentences in English to show off that it was an international conference. Ironically, the delegates came from Pujab, Maharastra, Andhrapradesh and Kartataka were talking in their mother tongue and Hindi when they conversed with each other. The same thing happened during the All India Atheist Conference held  at Periyar Tidal in May 2010, where, one invitee spoke in Hindi and it was translated by the DK ideologist. Now also, K. Veeramani during his speech accepted that the language bearer exists among the delegates coming from those states. Incidentally, their anti-Hindi stand gets exposed here, as with Tamil alone or any particular regional language alone, they cannot do anything.
