Fish constructing perfect geometric pattern on the seafloor: Resembling Mahameru, connected with creation and procreation

Fish making geometric pattern on the seafloor [1995]: About fish making perfect geometrical pattern in three dimensions on the seafloor, many news items, articles and research papers appeared in dailies, journals and research-sites during 1995. By and large, they repeated the same narrative with the common inputs received from the Japanese. Though some captioned their reports with “sacred circles,” they did not explain what that “sacredness” is about and ho the fish could understand it and convert into perfect geometric designs with its mouth and fins working hardly with labour. The brain of the fish of Amami Oshima area must have been so developed to conceive and apply such geometric pattern with simple burrowing through the sand.

Pufferfish made such geometric pattern: In 1995, divers noticed a beautiful, strange circular pattern on the seafloor off Japan, and soon after, more circles were discovered nearby[1]. Some likened these formations to “underwater crop circles.” The geometric formations mysteriously came and went, and for more than a decade, nobody knew what made them—or what was creating them[2].  The marine department, underwater explorers and divers started investigating. Finally, the creator of these remarkable formations was found[3]: a newly discovered species of pufferfish. They found that these fish make such a pattern and they took videography of making. Further study showed these small pufferfish, which spend about ten days carefully constructing and decorating the structures to attract mates.

Fish creating 18 times more size that of itself:  Males laboriously flap their fins as they swim along the seafloor, resulting in disrupted sediment and amazing circular patterns[4]. Although the fish are only about 12 centimeters (5 inches) long, the formations they make measure about 2 meters (7 feet) in diameter[5]. In other words, it was creating 18 times more size that of itself. Thus, how it could meticulously imagine and convert its labour into such a perfect pattern has to be thought of and appreciated. Before the female fish arrive to inspect his handiwork, the male forms irregular patterns in the fine sand particles of the central circle. He also decorates the peaks of the outer portion with shell and coral fragments[6]. This is very interesting, as the fish carefully lifts such items and takes to the edges of the pattern and place at points carefully. When the circles are finished, females come to inspect them, rather attracted towards them. A female will swim into the center to signal approval and the male bites on her cheek to start the mating process[7]. The male swims over, snatches the female’s cheek and the two creatures begin to mate, however, the process only lasts for a few seconds. Once finished, the female swims off – never to return[8].

Pattern Develop independently: The fish spends about six weeks building the structure that is 20 times its size, which also acts as a way to slow down the current in order to protect the eggs laid its mate. The white-spotted pufferfish is about three inches long and adorned with white spots on its back and silvery-white spots on its abdomen[9]. If they like what they see, they reproduce with the males, said Hiroshi Kawase, the curator of the Coastal Branch of Natural History Museum and Institute in Chiba, Japan. But nobody knows exactly what the females are looking for in these circles or what traits they find desirable, Kawase told LiveScience. [See Video of Pufferfish Making Seafloor Circles]. Once the female splits, though, it’s the male who does the parental chores: He remains in the nest until the eggs hatch six days later. However, the reproduction with such geometrical pattern is significant. Afterward, the male looks for a nearby spot to start the nest-making process all over again, which is a mystery of its own[10]:

Mystery not solved: Why spend all that time and energy building a brand-new nest? The scientists think it has something to do with the fine sand particles that make up the smooth center of the circles[11]. (Read “Africa’s Mysterious ‘Fairy Circles’ Explained.”) The males use up all the fine sand within the radius of their nest during a single spawning cycle. To construct another nest, they have to look elsewhere for a site with more fine sand particles. In any case, they could not find any reason for making pattern, leaving it to disappear and making a new one for further activities. When men and machines have been doing such job, it is marvelous and amazing that fish have been doing.

Possible explanation with Indian traditional narratives: With Indian traditional narrative of “Machavatara” Fish incarnation of Vishnu, the pattern can be explained. Of course, the European Indologists have also studied about it when they were making a comparative study of world literature. The geometrical pattern in two and three dimensions resemble Sri Chakra and Mahameru. These figures are considered as basis for the creation of all living and non-living objects and lives of the Cosmos, planets and earth. Mathematically, all numbers have been evolved out of 0. So also geometrically, all figures have been evolved out of  “.” i.e, point[12].

The Sri Chakra is a configuration of nine triangles, five triangles with apex downwards superimposed on four triangles with apex upwards. It consists of nine chakras. There are nine Chakreshwaris, nine classes of yoginis and nine mudras. Like the ninefold of Sri Chakra, the mantra is also nine fold as it contains only nine letters. The masters are nine in number. The human body has nine apertures. Therefore, identity is sought to be established between the Chakra, Deity, Mantra, Guru and the sadhaka’s body.

So also Mahameru. It starts with Bindu, dot, zero or small globe. The smallest circle that could be drawn without any radius. Then comes the next possible geometrical figure that could be drawn with two figures is impossible and therefore, the three sides figure is a triangle. So with the triangle, more geometrical figures are formed in three dimensions with 14 layers with specific geometrical figures. Vishnu takes macha-kurma-varaha-narasimha-vamana-parasurama-rama-balarama-krishna-kalki ten avataras. Fish-tortoise-boar-dwarf- axe man-iron man- plough man – fighting man – horseman – these categorizations indeed explains the evolution of man from unicellular to multicellular and also, implying the development progress of lithic and metallic cultures.
